Snow bases

Anyone got any tips for snow bases?

The only thing I could suggest is taking a look in your local GW at their Snow Flock for basing. A friend of mine used it with some stoney bits from his garden on his Space Wolves and they look really effective.

I remember that GW web site had a page that was dedicated on bases of different types and how to create them using various mix's.  Though I can't find the link at current.

Other ways I know of are baking soda+PVA glue and baking soda+still water (vallejo), both look better than snow flock in my opinion. Some people say that soda gets yellow after a while, I used it around 5 months ago and it's still pure white. Before you use any technique try it out on a test piece, so you can decide if you like the effect.

I've had some success mixing snow flock with pva, a little bit of water, and some white paint to make a tooth-paste like mixture, which can be shaped and then covered in flock again.  It's reasonably effective, although you can't cover an entire base.  Apart from that, I've seen suggestions of using the new grey textured paint, and then dipping that in snow flock while it's still wet.

The way I've been doing it is to use Extra Thick super glue and hit it with accelerator. It makes snow mounds. You can do the whole base that way if you want.. But the purpose of the glue is to give support.

After that, I paint the superglue white. This provides color that tends to show through.

Next, I cover the painted super glue mounds with elmer's glue. Not too thick because whatever you do it will deflate (the superglue will always hold form so when the elmers deflates it still looks good).

Then I cover the base in 'Woodland scenics soft flake snow' I get at my local hobby shop.

Kind of an expensive process as the glue is not cheap. But I think it looks good! Check my gnoblog URL for my Ogre snow pics!

I just paint white patches on the base then go over them with PVA and caster sugar. Glittery.

I use a mix of pva, icing suger and white paint, then i spread on the base (STICKY), this then kinda slowly deflates and flows when it looks natural I sprinkel some gale force 9 snow flock over the whole lot while its still tacky.
