original thread ↗

Guys i have one question.

Can a character join a unit of Maneaters who have the Vanguard special rule and benefit from it, therefore making also a Vanguard move with the unit?

Nice way to kill a thread in it's tracks grey templar  ;)

Just checked Vanguard rules, there's nothing there to state it doesn't work, it's actually in the character section of the rulebook (I'm using mini IoB rulebook for references). Pg 100 says about chars and special rules

"Unless otherwise noted in the text of the rule itself, a special rule applying only to a character does not apply to the unit and vise versa"

Vanguard does not state it's works on the char if he joins the unit so I'd say no, unless the char already has the Vanguard rule he will also prevent the ME's from Vanguarding if he joins them during deployment. I had a similar problem to this when I first started playing 8th. My mounted Liche Priest prevented my horse Archers from Scouting and using Vanguard  :(
The only time that will work is if you add Golgfag to the ME unit as he is a maneater himself so he can use the ME unit's rules when he joins them.
There is only news.  There is no good or bad.

Oh yeah! I always forget about "Golgfag's Maneaters", effectively Maneaters forced into taking Vanguard and Stubborn should you be dumb enough to use the rule, they aren't a bad combo really but there are better ones available. I can't see the point in it really seeing as you can take Maneaters with other rules and still put Golgfag in there to benefit from those rules instead. (At least that's what I've read on a thread or two here)
Ya but you can still drop Golgfag in a unit with vanguard and swiftstride and he would benefit from both rules.  :D

Oh yeah but that's because not only is he a Bruiser class hero he's also THE Maneater, the Godfather of Maneaters if you will
