Greedgut's Reavers (Apr 23: Army is now for sale, future projects)

Hello there Ogre Stronghold!

This first post will update on what I've done, what I'm doing, and a summary of my current project

Short background on this army;

This army is a mercenary force, plain and simple. Morn Greedgut, the warband's Tyrant is a pureblood sell sword, fighting for who-ever pays most (And when bored, whatever unlucky village or hold they are passsing by refuses to pay protection money from the warband), and travelling the Old World attracted by rumors of war.

Firstly WELCOME!
Well looks like a great start.  Plenty of bodies in your collection.

As for advice most people would say 2 Ironblasters as they tend to be more accurate and are better in close combat then the scrap launcher.  But if you like variety and some comedy I would go 1 Ironblaster and 1 scrap launcher. 

Sabretusks are a must.  They are the perfect chaff unit easy to manoeuvre, great for march blocking and can cause great damage behind enemy lines if they make it that far.  Just remember to keep them 6 inchs away from your units whenever possible. 

I can't help you on the skin paint tone sadly my Ogres are grey/bluey, so I will leave that for other members to advise on.

Im thinking the red/black scheme may contrast better with your army if your war beasts are taking a black/grey scheme.  The green/black scheme would make the army look quite earthy unless this is the look you are going for.

For the flesh toned skin i use-
Bungmans glow
Reikland fleshshade
Cadian fleshtone
Kislev flesh
These were the paints recomended by GW. I dont use the Kislev flesh much though.

Thanks for the suggestion on the flesh, though from your pictures, I'll probably go for a darker shade of skin. At elast I have a good idea of what the paints look like.

My first ogre models are a fact. Bought a box of 6 in the local GW when I picked up my web order (Paymaster ME, my Tyrant model).

Also bought Planetary Empires to start writing a campaign for the regulars at local GW, nice kit, looking forward to painting that even more then the ogres atm >


Still waiting for my Wayland order, wich is apparantly on hold due to website changes , guess it'll be 2 weeks at least before it gets delivered.


I had a chat with the GW store manager who strongly adviced against getting a Hunter, but instead get Golfag and/or some Maneaters. Will just have to see what to get.



Dry fitted unit, I'll wait with assembly untill I have the complete army so I can start kitbashing and magnetizing

Looks great! Don't forget to sprinkle some gnoblars on the bases for character.

Oh my, I totally forgot about my gnoblog the past two months untill I found the bookmark just now!

So, skipping any excuses;

This was my package when it finally arrived on Nov 1st



I'm lacking any pictures of the build, but then again, most of it are simply the kits as they're supposed to be, nothing really converted or anything. Some headswaps/armswaps etc. but nothing worth posting about

I magnetized the Ogre arms/hands for swapping out DW weapons and Ironfists, and the command options:



As you can see in the picture, I've gone for a stone grey skin and red pants with a white stripe. The unit is not comepltetly finished as I've fine tuned the paintscheme a bit (adding verdigris on the copper etc.)

I'll make some more photo's tomorrow of my progress so far wich includes;

10 Ironguts with magnetized standard bearer

Tomorrow I start work on my second unit of Ogres and hope to have them done near the weekend so  can start working on basing ideas.



Also I'm looking for some feedback on an mdoel list, Iam working towards a 5000 points army pool so I can field whatever is needed or whatever I feel like.

So finally something worth posting on this gnoblog!

I'm finally getting past my painting burn-out and really am getting back on track with the OK army.



Two units of 8 ogres will be expanded to 9 once I get an extra box of bulls for Man-eater conversions, but are just in need of some finishing touches here and there, but I can safely set them on the shelf as "done". The next phase will be completing the Irongut 10 man squad, wich mostly consists of pin striping the pants, painting the laces on the pants, and muddying the boots. And putting them om the bases ofc.

Speaking of the basing, I'm very pleased with how the swampy theme is contrasting the grey and red of the army. I royally screwed up the water effects though. I've searched for some tutorials, but none mentioned that it should be built up in THIN layers. So there's me , sculpting on the goop and getting nasty white spots in over 25 bases . Needless to say I wasted a lot of basing material this week.

Aside from the Ironguts, I'm playing with the Mournfang mount fur color during the basing down time. I've settled on a black fur with mournfang brown hide (surprising ey?). I might try some color variation, but I'm afraid it'll break the squad feel.

After the Ironguts and first 4 mounrfangs I want to get started on the first characters; the Slaughtermaster, Firebelly and my kit bashed Bruiser BSB

Wow I only just noticed your BSB's weapom is made from Ironfists on the mace part.  The unpainted picture you posted didn't show it off at all.  Look's fantastic!  

Thanks, its actually pieces from more kits then just some IF's...

The base was a mournfang rider club, the bottom is from the scraplauncher and, indeed, two ironfists with the hands scraped out.

Delivery service brought a nice sized box yesterday containing the last boxes with plastic I wanted for this project;

Giant

Crypt ghouls
Ogres
And some GF9 rubber steel sheeting, wich Im considering a terrible  buy right now seeing how week the metal part of it is... hardly any pull at all...

Anyway, I've spent most of last night cleaning and building the ghouls and giant.

This afternoon I started GSing the ghouls so they look a bit more Ogre-ish, but I still need to work on it a bit more, and I'm not happy with the heads (the ghoul head seem.. too undead, ogre heads are too large/well-fed). The giant is assembled, just needs some pins in the arms for ease of packing.

 The rest of the afternoon was spent fighting with my cheapo airbrush and primer, priming 15 gnoblars, 1 Slaughtermaster, my second Ironblaster and teh Stonehorn. With that done I have plenty of work ready for the weekend en well into next week.

So 3 days for completing the second Ironblaster, paint the SM FB and the female MA. AND greenstuff up the butchers... auch

20 Gnoblars, almost done, just need a bit of soil scatter on the bases

Nice work so far. It always makes me happy to see people giving the giant some care. Also the great weapon on the SM is looking good.

Decided to make a tyrant after all, so I had a good rummage through all the ogre bits yesterday.
I got really inspired and made a nice pile of usefull and cool stuff I wanted to incorperate, and then...

EUREKA

I had a vision of what I wanted to create, and started the build today. It involves a lot of greenstuff, a lot of random bits, but man am I excited about this guy!

The army is now for sale, here on Ogre Stronghold, and on Ebay. I will however cut you a better deal if I sell it here on Ogre Stronghold, since this is by far the best forums I've posted on since I started the hobby.

I will continue this Gnoblog with my future projects, which at the moment is looking to be a 2000 point Space Marines army of the Raven Guard flavor. Stay tuned!

In other news, Ill be starting a YouTube channel shortly, just ordered a camcorder!
