But then it moves, fights and gets fought like a warmachine and impact hits would be completely useless.
It actually doesn't shoot like a warmachine, it shoots like a cannon.
It moves like, fights like and IS a chariot, you seem to quickly pass by that for convenience

Now all we need is the 7th edition rule that said if the models are killed they don't get to fight and we WOULD be a broken army! lol

A hellcannon is a monster.
It moves like a monster. It fights like a monster. It takes hits and wounds and is charged like a monster. It is not a war machine.
But...
It shoots "like" a stone thrower. It has all the rules for stone throwers including Move or Fire and Slow to Fire and the FAQ confirms this.
The Ironblaster is exactly analogous to the Hellcannon. Interestingly, I can't find the FAQ that says the Hellcannon can pivot, probably it was in an older FAQ. So the question is:
Can the Hellcannon pivot before firing?
If you say "no" then you're going to find the WoC players don't agree with you. If you say "yes" then by extension this applies to any war machine weapon on non-unit-type-war-machine model.

I think Gutlord hath moved me to the otherside. Bravo good sir. I shall now pivot at will... I will pivot in all phases, even if I don't need to - just to annoy my enemy!!!!!

Ha ha ha... well steady on. It is only when shooting and note this is a double-edged sword. You must pivot directly at your target. While it can give you some flexibility in the shooting phase it can be a disadvantage as well, sometimes with BS shooting you can get a more favourable position by putting the target just inside your forward arc rather than pointing right at them.

Q. Can the Hellcannon move and fire? (p66)
A. No.
As the ironblaster CAN move and fire, there is no real need for pivoting.
Where does it actually say, that the hellcannon can pivot? I'm not saying it can't but I can't find it in the rules.

Whether Move or Fire makes pivoting in the shooting phase redundant is irrelevant. This is a bigger question that applies to every non-war machine unit with a war machine weapon.
If hellcannon can't pivot then I would agree that the Ironblaster and all other such units (cygor, stank, thundertusk, etc) also couldn't. I thought it was in the FAQ but I can't find it now either. Possibly in an earlier FAQ for 7th edition?

Couldn't find it either. And seeing as nothing nowhere state that non-war machines can pivot and fire. I plan to go with what we have been playing all along. Go by unit type (monster/chariot/critter) and if it has a war machine weapon on it use the shooting rules for the weapon and regular shooting rules. Target needs to be in the FA to shoot at it. I can live with my IB not pivoting. Been playing it that way all along.

Exactly, just pivot in the movement phase, can't see why it's a big issue. You still get the pivot all be it 2 phases earlier, a savy player will pivot during the movement so you don't need to pivot during shooting phases. Doesn't make a massive difference in my eyes.

Because magic can make the one target on the left disappear and then you may want to shoot at a target on the right in stead of a horde unit of infantry.
It's not about the big deal, it's about if you can do it within the rules
