Achievements are awarded for completing various tasks both here at the Ogre Stronghold and out in the real world. Gnoblar Messengers deliver messages to you when you earn Achievements, and by earning Achievements you'll gain Pet Gnoblars, Big Names, a great sense of pride and the eternal respect of your fellow Stronghold Ogres! 
Achievements are divided into three categories:
FORUM ACHIEVEMENTS (listed here) - Earned by completing tasks on the forum.
GAMING ACHIEVEMENTS (listed here) - Earned by playing games.
HOBBY ACHIEVEMENTS (listed here) - Earned by completing hobby activities.
You can find the complete list of Ogre Achievements over here.
The Stronghold automatically tracks and awards many Ogre Achievements, but for Achievements earned away from the Stronghold (which obviously can't be tracked so easily), you'll be required to post in the relevant Achievement topics here in the Ogre Achievements forum section.
By posting in an Achievement topic, you'll automatically unlock the desired Achievement. So a word of warning:
DON'T REPLY TO ACHIEVEMENT TOPICS IF YOU HAVEN'T MET THE ACHIEVEMENT REQUIREMENTS!
