How to use gorgers with skrag?!

original thread ↗

So I am making a 2000 point skrag gorger list to match up against my friends 2k point all wight no vampire list.
My question is, with skrag, I can take gorgers in packs of 2. It still seems like they wont do much but how would I go about making that effective? I plan on taking tons of gorgers and a block of ogre bulls to put skrag in. Has anyone on here tried something so silly? How did you make it work?
I've not tried it meself, but I don't think it'd be as useless as you perhaps fear. Certainly, it's not something I'd take to any half-serious tourney, but having 30 or so S5 attacks attached to 30 or so T5 unbreakable wounds turn up behind your lines is something no-one wants to contend with. Skrag himself is also probably our best special character (though that's not saying a lot) and a right sod to take down. It'd definitely be a crying shame not to make full use of his cordiality with his famished mates, so I strongly advise you to try it out and please report back to us!

I've done it with heavy proxying. There is no real reason to run the gorgers in groups of 2. By running them as singles you help mitigate wounds much easier.

For instance, if a night goblin fanatic runs into your gorgers - it's likely going to kill 1, and possibly kill both. However, if separated, only 1 will die from the fanatic.

If a big block of archers does 5 wounds to your unit of 1 gorger, then that's 2 wounds wasted, where if you had it in a unit of 2, those 2 wounds will carry over.

Quiet, you.

Heck, just realised that both of us got it wrong. Just goes to show how much the things are used, eh?

The other nice thing about running them as just a bunch of singletons is that you greatly increase just how many will come in, where you can place them, how many targets you can engage, and how likely you are to make any charges.  Say you're running 4 packs of 2 each.  You'll probably get 2 or 3 on turn 2.  So, you can threaten 2 or 3 targets, but you probably can't double up (say for a longer charge).  Run them single, and you'll probably get 5 or 6 in on turn two.  Now you can send two after that cannon (he can only shoot one!  :D), and send another 2 after that nasty unit out in front (you'd need a 9 on the charge dice, but you'll be rolling twice! ;)), and heck, just for fun, you can put one on each side of that annoying mage bunker (try running from that! :P).  Running them in groups of two is interesting, but it's much more tactically viable to just run a crap-ton of singles.
I think singles is really the best way to go. They just provide so many more options than units of two and you can essentially keep them in "pairs" if you feel that is nessacary.

That or the fact that you have a slippery enter key... ;)

Singles, all the ways, stands to reason for the reasons given above, same as with the big pussycats. Which, incidentally, you should use to draw out those Fanatics. No sense in wasting a gorger on 'em.
Y'know this thread convinced to have a go at proxin' Skrag, or build a Skrag substitute, probably as an Ogre Voodoo Bokor.

I built a fairly decent skrag proxy as well.  Just remember, Skrag is on a chariot base.  It's not a legal substitute if it's on the wrong base size.  I compromised by having magnets on the bottom of the Ogre part of the model, so I can remove it from the chariot base to field him as a regular butcher (albeit one with no hands :D)
So, I just made my list and had my fun game against my friends vampires. It was pretty brutal. Skrag beat some faces in pretty hard. I'll post the battle report in a bit!
I'm curious to how your list looked.
