My first battle against High Elves, I got nuked down to 4 models by the end of the magic phase in the top of the 2nd.
Crack's call recently swallowed my Thundertusk and three IGs when a single level 4 wizard was the only opposing model left on the table.
It's all situational - our wizards are relatively expensive, so we have two counters: Hellheart and the Runemaw banner (which is a tad overpriced at 60 points).
My unit of 12 Gnoblars have run down 'real' units at least 4 times now. It was luck of the roll, but no less devastating.
My point is that against a magic centric army, it is necessary. To others it can be devastating if your opponent ignores it. The crack's call wiz that got me? Thanks to skitterleap his wizards were never within 20 inches of each other, or closer than 15 from my characters more than 1 at a time. Hellheart put a wound on one.
