Moral victories

original thread ↗

I just had a game today where I lost to tree huggers by my SM offing himself in a blood and glory. Bad luck but a great game and don't feel disheartened.

The reason I started this post was that somehow I had one Mournfang slaughtering archers on the left flank and for 2 turns which included combat and about 20 3+ saves he just would not die. He soaked up so much damage. Finally taken down by a rear charge from an Eagle whilst in combat.

Through a loss what gave you guys and gals a little smile to help say that a game wasn't bad?
My horde of beastmen against your ogre horde?

Ok but I get a horde of Leadbelchers.
Skaven game early this year. His general had spent two turns destroying my Ogres, before finally impaling himself on it. Actually made the impending loss not so bad...

After all, painting 100 night goblins is something you do in the morning just before you are off to work.

And I think you missed a 0 when you wrote 11 armies. The correct nr should be 110 armies I would think, based on your painting speed.
Losing two whole units of chaos warriors in one turn of impeccable shooting by an Empire army, and my two tzeentchian wizards getting revenge with infernal gateway one annihilating a unit of knights and the other removing a full unit of knights with Kurt Helborg from the game!

Made me chuckle ;) don't mess with the Lord of Change!

Got absolutely annihilated in my first Storm of Magic game yesterday, 3k vs High Elves... BUT, my Stonehorn, who as a rule never survives a game, smashed a lion chariot, overran into a hoard of archers, broke and chased them off the table, then charged and ran down a unit of Sea Guard.

Now I will grant you that those were the only non-character units I killed, or rather, damaged, all game (one mage turned into a frog and was clubbed by three ogres, right before the mage's dragon ate them), but still...
By the middle I grasp firmly
My great halberd that I have loved so long.
I lay it across my shoulder;
with leisurely step stride forward.
Be he demon or hobgoblin, how
shall he stand against me?
Such trust I have in my own prowess.
Oh, how I long

My favorite one would be a doubles tourny with my WoC and a Beastman ally. Against a Vamp/Brit list we were looking at some pretty serious characters to eat our lunch. The Brit was kitted in way that was next to impossible to kill in CC and the vamp lord... well is a vamp lord and is a pain to deal to with period. The rules for this tourny was all allies are friendly regardless, kinda of a keep it simple thing so the brit was supporting the vamp with magic, and them friggen grail knights.

Anyway, my ally decked out with a Minostar was getting handed his buttocks by black guard and the vamp with help from the grails. Bear in mind this grail block has the lord a lvl 4 sorc and bsb in it. Turn 3 I cast Gateway on the knights niether decide to dispel (no idea why) and roll 11 for the str bye-bye grails and all in it. Needless to say that upset the vamp who rampaged through our ranks and didn't let that spell go off again
I had a block of 100 gnoblars trappers. I pumped them up +2 str, +1 toughness, and regen. A unit of 8 chaos knights charged. With some lucky rolling, Gnobbos won the round of combat by 1. The Knights failed their break test and gnobbos ran em down! Rest of my army got slaughtered, but gnobbos rocked!
Had a game against empire at 2500 where his Wizard Lord casts pit of shades and purple sun both irresistably. 600 points of ogres and ironguts disappeared.

Meanwhile however, his greatswords turned right around so that my sabertusk couldn't charge their rear.. and got rear-charged by 10 gnobbos. those 10 gnoblars won combat by 1 point and ran the greatswords off the table! wooooo!

still lost.

But WOOOOO!

I had a TK vs Dwarf battle recently at 2k points. I got spanked something silly for the most part all be it a victory to me. By turn 4 I only had my Heirophant, level 2 death priest and roughly 30 spears + 20 bows. It was dire but due to my opponents rather stupid deployment I 6 diced a purple sun straight down the middle of his gunline (emphasis on the word line!). I rolled 26 on it's boosted value and sent the sun 30" across his line killing a whopping 24 Warriors, 18 Quarrelers, an entire 16 man unit of Thunderers, a Cannon + crew, organ gun + crew and a VERY unlucky Dwarf lord who failed his LoS hehe. I decimated the remains of his army the following turn of combat + shooting. It was as I said a victory but the game was so utterly depressing for me due to non stop bad rolls until the winds of magic changed to my favour.
Anytime I ever kill Teclis. Ever.

Also in a 3 player 3500pt a side game where I finished off  with over 3000pts still on the table and the opponents less than 1500 between them.  I may have technically lost the battle but my lord did I win the war!

Had a game against dork elves a while ago.
I had only half his points and it was some kinda weird ambush scenario (campaign).

I managed to play to a draw and in the end my IB's kill list included: 20 Xbow men, unit of 10 cavalry, 10 shadow warriors (or some such) and a unit of 25 spear men.  All of that after the IB's cannon cracked in the first turn of shooting. :D

There is only news.  There is no good or bad.
I like putting champions in my Gnoblar units  and issue challenges to keep characters from taking out too many of my gnoblars at once.

Anytime my gnoblar champ survives is a moral victory, but every once in a while(usually due to the dice gods intervention) I win.

There is no question that Maneaters is not the answer too.

Not a Fantasy battle as such but a week ago I took on my friends Tyranids with my Orks and he used the Doom of Malantai. I had a lone Lobba team with 3 Grots and a Herder. The Doom tried to use it's life leaching spell on me but failed to wound the grots then dealt 2 wounds to itself killing it!  Since then the brave little Grots have been given honourary war paint
In a doubles game I was about to charge a Casket of Souls the next turn with 2 sabertusks(grouped) when the VC player charged his Vampire Lord into my cats, my cats won the combat with taking 0 wounds and got the kill on the Casket next turn. My team lost the game but the cats won the battles.
