Volcanogut

original thread ↗

So we got a more powerful version of the Butcher, (the Slaughtermaster) but we never got a more powerful version of the newest bad boy, the Firebelly. So I took it into libarty to make one.

Volcanogut 310pts

Wargear:
Magma Splash: The volcanogut has been trained to swallow lava from the Fire Mountain before the battle to use on his enemies. The Volcano gut has a Strenght 5 breath weapon with flaming attacks and It Burns! (see below)
Flaming fists: Just before a fight, the Volcnogut lights his hands aflame. In combat you have the choice of using the Flame fists over your close combat weapon. If so, you count as having an additional hand weapon and hqving Flaming Attacks and It Burns! and having the Multiple Wounds (d3) special rules.
Special Rules:
Ogre Charge, Fear,
Immune to Fire damage: Due to the Intense training of the Volcanogut, he no longer feels pain from the flames, nor does his skin burn anymore. Any attacks with the Flaming Attacks that hit the Volcanogut cannot wound him. Any auto-wounding hits must score a 4+ to wound. Furthermore, the Volcanogut has a 4+ ward against flaming attacks.
It Burns!: The Volcanogut's body has ripples of lava going through it and many feel it's burning heat. Any attack that hits the
Volcanoguts must take a Strenght or a Toughness test (current player's turn chooses) or suffer d3 automatic wounds. You must resolve any hits before rolling for the It Burns! special rule. Also, if the Volcanogut has hit an enemy unit with an attack that has the It Burns! special rule then the opponent must take a Strenght or Toughness test or suffer death, to symbolise the Volcanogut showing no mercy and continuing his attacks. If any survive you must then roll to wound as normal.
Volcanic wrath: A bound spell of 5+. If cast it has a range of 6" and gives +1 to wound and Flaming Attacks to the unit.
Eruption!!: If the Volcanogut is killed, place the large blast template over his head. Anyone under it suffer a strenght 5 Flaming Attcks hit.
Volcanogut's apprentices: The Volcanogut might bring some of his apprentices to show them hoe to fight on the batte field. Any lava belly unit (doing them next) can be chosen to be the Volcanogut's apprentices. This unit gains the Magma Spurt and It Burns! special rules. Or you can take this unit:
Lavabellies: Unit size +3
Ogre Ws Bs S T I W A Ld
          3     3  4 4 2 3 3   7
Gnoblar Ws Bs S T I W A Ld
                2    3   3 3 4 1 2  6
Each lava belly Ogre costs 40 points. Each lava belly gnoblar costs 7.5 points.
The Ogres may be in the same unit as the Gnoblars. They are trusted companions and "school" friends.
Each ogre can take: AHW...1pts
Ironfist...2pts
Great Weapon...8 pts
Each gnoblar can take: Trappers (They're still gnoblars!)...25 points
Sword and Shield...2 points
Special rules: (Unit)
Flaming Attacks.
Fire retardent: Although they are trainees, they are slightly immune to fire. 5+ ward save against flaming attacks.
Magma spurt: A less potent version. Strenght 4 breath weapon with flaming attacks.

(Ogre): Ogre charge
Fear
(Gnoblar)...
Whilst a very fluffy creation, and certainly very flavourful, I think that there may be too many rules for a regular unit choice. The sheer number of different rules, before you add any upgrades or magic items, seems a little convoluted. Also, he seems mildly overpowered in my honest opinion. If he uses his Flaming Fists special rule, he has 5 Attacks, each doing D3 wounds, and then potentially doing a further D3 each, or causing outright death... Seems very strong, particularly for the points.

If you were to tone him down a bit, or increase his points cost, he would be a fantastic creation :)

After all, painting 100 night goblins is something you do in the morning just before you are off to work.

And I think you missed a 0 when you wrote 11 armies. The correct nr should be 110 armies I would think, based on your painting speed.
Cool! 310 sound fair?
A lot better :)

Him being Immune to Flaming Attacks and having a 4+ ward save against Flaming attacks is redundant. Maybe change it to be a 4+ ward that increases to a 2+ against flaming attacks.

"It Burns" is poorly worded and OP.

I would change it to be as follows,

It Burns: The Volcanogut's flames burn long and hot. If a unit suffers any unsaved wounds from any of the Volcanogut's attacks place a marker on the unit, this includes any unit damaged by the Volcanogut's spells. At the beginning of each subsequent magic phase roll a D6 for each unit with a marker. On a 3+ the flames inflict D6 Str4 flaming hits on the unit and continue to burn. On a 2 or less the flames are extinguished, remove the marker.
Current win streak: 10

Things Fluffy,my Stonehorn, has flattened: Ancient Stegadon, Unit of 5 Chariots with Tomb king, Chaos Lord, Herald of Khorne on Jugger,
