It's said in the Ogre Kingdoms army book that the Ogres are more nomadic, never really building anything of lasting value... But, do you think they would be capable of building sea craft, however ramshackle? Allow me to explain my purpose for asking this question:
I am preparing a map-based campaign for my friends, using the old rules in the General's Compendium - with a slight twist. I have specific map sections that must be captured and held by winning different scenarios - I have one with a gladiatorial arena, which can only be passed through by the race of the current champion... I have "Hot Gates", reminiscent of 300... and I thought it would be awesome if, in order to take and hold waterways and whatnot, one of my players would have to win a game of Dreadfleet. However, I am building custom boats so that every race has 5 ships (same rules just translated, i.e. Flaming Scimitar = High Elf Dragonmage ship, etc.) so I need some ideas for Ogre ships.
I had a couple ideas, maybe a small fortress or what have you atop a giant walrus-like creature (seems to fit their fluff pretty well) and maybe a boat made of massive tusks, etc.
Anyone got any fun ideas??
Sometimes you just have to say, to hell with complicated plots, deception, and trickery. And just smash the hell out of something.

I was recently playing Lair on my PS3 and on one of the earlier levels there are these giant transport rafts being drawn through the sea by large creatures. Perhaps a Ramshackle style raft being drawn by some sort of captured sea creature?

Build it like a small mountain of rock with loads of tusks on the side drwan to war by some walrusses or whale-like creatures. That would be epic. Will you post pictures of them when they are done.

I will absolutely post pictures of all my converted ships if you guys are interested. I also have some Dark Elf ships I'm converting as well, but those are easy, as sea craft is all over their fluff.
Both good ideas, by the way. Anyone else got any ideas for Ogre ships?

I think ogres would probably end up using the ships of other races as they are not known for their ability to build complex things, Imperial ships would be my guess, possibly with a mix of ogre and human crewmen.

Like a pirate ship, Agoz?
That would make sense, as well... Give an Empire ship a ramshackle look, much like the Ironblaster's base platform... A ship taken over by Pirate Maneaters, perhaps?

pirates or mercenaries would be my guess, yes.

Something like this?
Empire ships that have been captured and repurposed.

Being opprotunists, ogres would steal/use ships of other races when avaliable but there is nothing to suggest they couldn't make their own, and they would probably be more comfortable in their own ships. Ogres are dim of wit, not stupid.
Ogre made ships would probably be made of rough hewn logs, calked with copious amounts of smelly tar. They would certaintly be big constructs. Giant oars made out of whole trees etc...
They probably wouldn't have much rigging. Maybe a single mast with a simple square rig. Oars would be easier to make and use.

well like for my pirate ogres my plan is that they paid for with money and threats and promises to only eat some of the workers to have someone build a massive ship for them.
Giant rafts mountains of logs tarred together or things on backs of monsters makes good sense too. i agree a basic orge ship likely ore powered but when you got like 30 ogres pulling on huge oars intime.. prolly as fast as most ships sails
dont need cannon ports just have leadbelchers and ironblasters on deck or sticking out holes

Maby a Gnoblar sail ship. You can use is as the fast high elf ship. I think i would be funny to have a Gnoblar schip and Gnoblar captain.

Funny we all picture it the same. I was also thinking of a massive barge type thing. Huge logs with big tusks for battering and long planks for boarding. Or just stolen ships.
