Neezy's Ogre Army

original thread ↗

Hello everyone.
I have been intrested in Warhammer since i was a young lad and now i have a son of my own i decided to take up a hobby other than football and drinking.
I'm completely new to the hobby and that includes making and painting the models so my work isn't as good as most here but practice makes perfect.
So far i have bought a battalion box set, 2 mournfang, a slaughtermaster, a giant and Golgfag which im converting into my bsb.
Here is some of my work so far.

Hoping to finish the bsb by the end of the weekend.
All advice is welcome.
Thanks.
Neil Williams.
Hail! Welcome to the Stronghold and to the amazing hobby of Warhammer!

Y'know, these look really good; are you sure you're a first-timer at this? ;)

I wouldn't even know how to comment or give advice. These look great! From what you've bought so far, though, I'd recommend another pack of Mournfang; two have a harder time applying the big impact that the unit's great for. I like running three myself, but since you end up having to get four anyways, that's good too :)

Eitherway, keep up the gnoblog, they look great!
24 Gnobs! Wow, 2 sets, crazy!
Toothy, Workie, Sir Reginald, and Busty (for the bus explanation)!

43/101 Achievements earned! Woo! Got some of the tricky ones!

New book WLD: 17/8/2 ... A good quick game to get me re-invigorated, glad it was a win either way lol

For a first timer you are putting the rest of us to shame! :D

Nice job so far! Keep 'em coming.

I'd agree with the advice about Mournfang, a unit of 4 is a much better prospect for survival, more than twice the chances in my view, than a unit of 2.

I actually run 2 units of 3 myself, with another 3 in the paint prep stages! :D

Looking forward to seeing what's next!

HG
Thankyou for the kind words.  :)

Yes i think i will get another box of Mournfang, i just bought a good mixture to start with to practice with.
Im trying to assemble and paint up enough to get a 500 pt army to practice with then carry on from there.

More pics to follow after the weekend.
Wow, that's impressive work for someone who is completely new to the hobby! Better than a lot of people do after they've been at it for awhile.

Only thing I would toss in as advice is to add a little variety as you expand your force. So far most of your ogres have the same color pants and boots, and they all have the same color hair. Unless you have a theme/fluff reason why this is so, it will really start to make things pop in a good way to throw in some different hair colors and some wardrobe variation.
I didnt get as much done as i would have liked this weekend but i managed a little.
I have started on my BSB and painted a Ogre SB.

I still have a little work to do on him, thinking of putting a gutplate on his back to look like a shield.

Im planning on keeping all the hair the same colour but yes i will mix and match the pants a little more.

Thanks.

Neil
Its been a while since i updated here. I have been away on holiday and when i returned kept putting off painting as my bsb was a lot harder to paint than the other Ogres so far.
But i finally managed it. Here are the pics.

Im not happy with the eye so will probably repaint that but overall im happy with him.
I think the next models will be my ironguts and then my slaughtermaster.
Thanks for looking.
Neil.
My next update is my slaughtermaster. It was my first attempt at painting any blood on my models. I just used an old tooth brush and flicked it on to get the effect.

Thanks for looking.
Neil.
I've seen these ogres in the flesh and they are pretty impressive, especially for an absolute beginner. The BSB was an ambitious project for a first conversion and the toothbrush blood splatter on the butcher looks great. I've painted at least 1000 Warhammer minis in the last few years and I'd never have dared try that with any of them!

Keep them coming Neil, you'll have that 1000 points done in no time :)
No Ogres yet but take a look at:
DAEMONS of TZEENTCH
BEASTMEN
EMPIRE
The Physics of Chariots!
Cheers Mate, i should have some of the ironguts finished this weekend so will have some pics to post soon.
Also started to assemble the mournfang and firebelly.
I havent posted on this blog in a while, my 7 month old son is keeping me busy.
I have managed to get some painting done though.
My Ironguts finished

And also my Firebelly

I have also made a lot of movement trays and magnetised them all.
Im working on getting a 1000pt list together, i just need to finish off the Giant and 2 Mournfang.
Next will be my Ginger Mournfang.

Thanks for looking.

Neil
I havent posted in a long while. Our camera broke so i couldn't take any pictures.
I have finished the giant-

And my ginger Mournfang-

There is also a little follower with one of the Mournfang-

Im now working on another unit of Ogres, Ironblaster, Gnoblars and a unit of Gnoblar rat riders plus lots more.
Thanks for taking a look.
Neil.
Ironblaster nearly finished. Just needs basing and a few touch ups.

What a great model to paint.
More finished Ogres.

A full unit of Leadbelchers with Firebelly.

Thanks for looking.
I have been looking for a skirmish game that the wife and i can play in the evenings.
I love warhammer but by the time the kids are in bed we dont have enough time to get a game in.
My local game store ( Worcester Wargames) recommended Freebooters Fate.
We will be going into the store for a few test games later this month but today i jumped in a got my 1st model.
I have decided on the Goblin Pirates as i love the models. I have been told that i wont win many games with them but i dont mind :)
For any of you who dont know about Freebooters fate here is a link-
http://www.freebooterminiatures.de/en/catalog/freebooters-fate/goblin-pirates

I bought Gront and will be cleaning him up and making him tonight.
Im really excited about this game and cant wait to get going.

That's really cool! Interested to hear more, I've often looked at the models and wondered what the game was like. That and Infinity. Particularly like the pirate goblins (and the amazons) so can't wait to see you paint them.

Matt
I am always interested to hear about new gaming systems and see new mini's (often with a view to trying to add them into current armies for variety) Will be interesting to see these mini's and see you bring them to life with some paint.

I have never heard of the game itself, so that too will be interesting to hear about.

Warning. The next few posts i do might get a bit bright. Been working on the all skink army.
I will be painting each unit type a different colour so the Skirmishers are pink/blue and the cohort blue/pink.
Im thinking of lime green for the Chameleon skinks, maybe yellow/orange for magic users. Still messing about with colours at the moment.
Work in progress on the Bastiladon

Any bright colour suggestions for units welcome.
Hi Neezy,
Basty is looking good!

When you get the skinks in the mail you may get a couple of ideas.  I started playing around with having the skink head a different color than the body.  That helps you get even brighter if you want.

If you google Black Swamp Snake you will see the color scheme for a bunch of the skinks I sent.
Thanks Ibisson
I have been looking at jungle frogs and snakes to get some more inspiration. Because this army will be my daughters everything has to be very colourful :)
I havent had much time for the hobby of late, the wife has had me decorating the house and laying laminate flooring.
Just getting back into it again now so been working with colour schemes for my skinks.
Going for this for my cohort-
Well, he's bright and the girls (your girls) will love him...that is what counts at the end of the day...death by Lilac skink; oh the indignity of it all!  :D

G_H
Bright and Lizardmen works a treat! I think they look great and are really well painted  :)
Thanks Groggy.
GH i showed my daughter the skink this morning and she loved him :)
I have a tournament in Nov with these skinks, im hoping to blind the opposition off the board.
The Skinks have now been put on hold because there was no way i was going to get them ready for the tournament im going to.
So i have been working on and finishing some scenery i had on the painting table-

Also some fencing and walls, only a small selection of them here-

The little house looks really good, very authentic. How big is it? It is hard to tell scale without a mini for comparison. Also, where did you purchase this little house?

Fences and walls look good; the scenery is an important part of any game as it sets the scene...I really should get some more (some more?  :| Any would be good!) done myself.

Excellent work mate

G_H
Cheers GH.
I got the cottage from here-
http://stronghold-terrain.de/index.php/medieval/town-houses/bauernkate.html
It works perfect to Warhammer scale.
I also own the tavern which is almost finished being painted.
