Bies Plog of Ogre Clowns of Doom - GT report, army/painting list

original thread ↗

Hey guys, so expect a lot of posts over the next couple of weeks as I paint my army for a tournament but heres what I got done so far:

My Tyrant:

One of my Bruisers:

My Bulls:

Looking good so far.
Nice to these themed armies, makes a change from our normal stuff!
Keep 'em coming!

HG
haha thanks mate,

Originally they didn't have the clowns but Istarted painting this list when I was working at the Hong Kong LGS. I got so much flak from my colleagues, customers and bosses about how my pants looked like they belonged in a Circus, so when my boss told me they looked like they were from a carnival I decided to bite the bullet and paint clown faces on them all haha

Also tied to this is my army list for a tourny if you anyone could take the time to check that out as well.

Got a Slaughtermaster and Ironguts on the painting table atm
The joker bruiser is very cool!  I like very much!   :D
Stay Frosty

Games Played (New book) = 11

W - 5  L - 6  D - 0

Win streak 3.
Monthly Paint challenges done = 6
The painting is very nice although i can't say i like them...i just don't do clowns...can't do it...clowns...it's a personal thing so don't take it the wrong way.  I've never like clowns and don't plan on it.  They freak me out WAAAYYY to much....

Again, though, very neat and well done painting and i second the joker bruiser.  Awesome...for a clown...
Oh Snap, it's Scarecrow's Gnoblog
I really like the skin tone, forget the clown faces for a second, the skin colour looks great!

Now for the clown theme, brilliant, works really well! Also has the added benefit of a bit of physiological warfare against players who don't like clowns..... Should challenge scarecrow4560 to a friendly by the looks of things  :P
Ogre Achivements 10/101
Bogiee,

thanks, I'm not actually going to do clown faces on any more of my models now, i was thinking of redoing all the faces of the bulls and getting rid of them anyway. What do you guys think?

I see this has been moved to a blog area in that case I'll let you know what I've got on my painting tablel

8 Ironguts - hope to have these guys done by tomorrow bar basing
4 mournfangs, BSB, Butcher - hope to have these guys done by this weekend.

I have alot to paint though. Tournament is in 2 weeks and I got all this:

BSB
Butcher
Firebelly
8 Ironguts
20 gnoblars
4 mournfangs
2 ironblasters

fingers crossed I can do it all in time!
Nah stick with the clown faces I think it's an awesome theme! I really do!
Ogre Achivements 10/101
Well I've submitted my list for the Tournament, here it, hope you like it haha

Death Clowns of Doom

Ulag Giantbreaker 6 Bellies Clown Slayer - Tyrant - Sword of Anti-Heroes, Giantbreaker big name, Talisman of Preservation, heavy armour = 315

Glum the Grisly – Slaughtermaster - Armour of Destiny, Dispel Scroll, Level 4, Gut Magic = 360

Ortygg Deathcheater Thickskull - Brusier - BSB, Rune maw, Death cheater big name, Heavy Armour = 214

Thorlak the Wrathful – Firebelly - Potion of Strength, Gold Sigil Sword,   Opal Amulet, Fire Magic = 170

Vog the Everhungry – Butcher - Hellheart (50) Ironfist (3) Level 2 (35) Beast Magic = 188

'The Mad Hats' – Bulls x6, Musician & Standard, Ironfists, Look out gnoblar = 217

'The Jesters' – Bulls   x5, Full Command, Ironfists, Lookout Gnoblar = 195

'The Exhibitionists' – Ironguts   x7,Full Command, standard of discipline, Look out Gnoblar = 351

'Stage hands' Gnoblars - x10, trappers = 50

'Sh!t Shovellers' Gnoblars  - x10, trappers = 50

'The Extravaganza' - Mournfangs x4, musician & standard, Dragonhide banner, Ironfists, Heavy Armour = 350

'Morning Glory' - Ironblaster = 170

'Daisy' Ironblaster = 170

Total = 2800pts bang on the money for the tourney.

So Ulag, Glug and Ortygg all go in the Mad Hats, Thorlak the  Wrathful is in the Exhibitionists, Vog is in the Jesters.

Basic idea depending on scenario and terrain is to pretty much always set up in a refused flank formation along the lines of:

Mournfangs  - Stage Hands  -  Mad Hats  - Sh!t Shovellers Jesters  - Exhibitionists
                       Morning Glory                               Daisy

so all close with the gnoblars and their traps providing a screen for the Ironblasters. Thorlak isn't really there to cast spells his main purposes is to provide anti-regen to the Ironguts, by striking at I10 he will strike before almost everything and potion of str will help out against Hellpits, Hydras etc.

My only real concern with the army is I haven't actually played with it before... usually my slaughtermaster is a death mage on flying carpet with Hellheart, there is nothing more fun then flying in, zapping an enemy general or bsb and then blowing up the enemy wizards. However with no save he's really vulnerable hence I left him out

Still I think I should be able to handle most things my opponents throw at me, although you never know in Hong Kong as we manage to make some of the most unorthodox and nasty lists out there

Love the painting and colours!
Thanks Aedes,

OK so here are my WIP Ironguts, only the pants and flesh are done, although the red isn't finished yet either.

Anyway I played a practice game with my Tournament list tonight against a Vamps list, this was my first time playing against vamps in fact I haven't read the book before tonight either;

Vamp lord - red fury, immune to fire and other mumbojumbo Lv1 on Helsteed (flying horse one)
Vamp - BSB, red fury, immune to fire on Helsteed as well
Manfred von Carstein
Konrad von Carstein (OMFG WHAT A MONSTER!)

20 zombies- mus & st
20 zombies- mus & st
20 zombies- mus & st
20 zombies- mus & st
40 skelletons  full command
20  direwolves with doomwolf

10 black knights +1mv banner
6 vargheists
2 vargulfs
Mortis Engine

So here are the deployment pics: Sorry about the table and terrain, usually I like to play on MUCH better terrain - and we have all the stuff for some great looking battles but the tournament will probably have limited terrain only 3-5 peices and won't have any of the gaming boards I usually use either so as this was a tournament practice game I felt we should make it as realistic as possible (including playing within the 2 and a half our time limit).

Turn 1 - I got to go first and began with a limited move forward, I wanted to get things prepared for a big move in T2 or 3 but not push to far forward yet. Nothing really happened except for my two Ironblasters, one took a pot shot on the two vargulfs and i managed to hit both but they both passed their regen. The other one took out  a skeleton and two black knights.

His turn - he tried to charge with his varghiests and direwovles at the Ironguts and Jesters but both charges failed. Elsewhere he pushed forward pretty fast and also got his vampires as far away from Vog the Everhungry and his Helheart as possible. The two vargulfs spread out far to my left flank in a very obvious move to outflank the Mournfangs...O NOES!

Turn 2 -

Well he'd pushed forward pretty far, so now it was time to capitalize on his mistake (as I saw it) the Extravaganza mournfangs ran into one of the zombie units, the Mad Hats charged into the skeletons and Konrad (boy was I in for a shock). The Exhibitionists charged the Direwolves while the Jesters and Sh!t shovellers moved forward to protect their flank.

In the shooting phase I managed to take out one vargheist and a wound on the Mortis engine.

Combat was a mixed bag. I slaughtered the direwolves with ease and reformed to face the Varghiests. The mournfangs slaughtered the zombies and I decided to overrun - knowing the Vargulfs would hit me in the following turn but I figured the zombies would provide the combat res for me to win. Unfortunately I then ran the Konrad combat and DAMN! Ulag got stuck in a challenge with the skelly champ and this allowed Konrad to wail on the unit, killing all 6 of my bulls!!!!!!

His turn 2:
This is where the game got very hairy for me and while I took some heavy losses he also left me with some great opportunities. First off he charged Mannfred and his zombies along with both Vargulfs into the mournfangs, Manffred and co and 1 vargulf hitting either flank. The Vargheists charged into the Jesters. His BSB attempted to charge the Jesters but failed while his Lord ran into the back of my Ironguts.  He also threw in the Mortis Engine at the Ulag, Glum and Ortygg. As an afterthought he also charged a unit of zombies into the Stage Hand Gnoblars on the hill.

The combats generally swung my way - Thankfully! The Mournfangs pounded the zombies allowing me to win combat which resulted in more zombie deaths and the disintegration of both Vargulfs,

plus I did a wound on Manfred.

My Tyrant issued a challenge which was dutifully accepted by Konrad right before Konrad was turned into a sticky pulpy gooey mess on the head of my mace and again I won combat. the Varghiests with -1 to attack thanks to my beast spell from Vog the Everhungry meant the combat between the Vargheists and Jesters ground on with us both loosing a model a peice, as I was within General, BSB I held.

Combat of the Game was of course the zombies vs gnoblars. both units scored a couple of casualties, both units remained stuck in place.

Unfortunately the Ironguts got annihilated and run down

My Turn3:
Well lookee here... both his general and BSB all alone and solo with no ward saves in front of my Ironblasters! Two shots later, two dead vampires!

The combats ground on, again in my favour I managed to wipe out the unit of zombies in the mournfang's front, reforming to face Manfreds unit while Ulag and his buddies won combat resulting in only 2 skellies remaining and the mortis engine becoming a pile of bones

The Ultimate Fight Showdown of Gnoblars vs Zombies continued with neither side gaining the upperhand.

Meanwhile the Jesters and Varghiests continued to pound each other. I lost a couple more bulls but took down another Vargheist.

His turn 3:

He charged his black knights into the mournfangs to continue the combat (like he had a chance )

Nothing much happened except he managed to finally get some magic off  and healed his zombies and manfred (who I had failed to kill now which was really annoying me!).

He finally gained the upperhand in the combat with the Jesters and things looked shakey on my left flank,

Thanks to my 2+/6++ the Mournfangs held on and thanks to zombies being zombies I got the combat res to win and 6 black knights crumbled to dust.

Well Turn 3 had really swung the game my way now and it was time to put the nail in the coffin, so to speak haha (I make myself laugh) Daisy the Ironblaster charged into the remaining Vargheists (anyone else notice I spell it with the I & E interchangeable?) I also moved Ulag, Ortygg and Glum the Grisly behind Mannfred's unit and set Morning Glory (my other Ironblaster) in a position to hit the flank of the zombies still stuck fighting the Stage Hand Gnoblars.

Well I defeated the Vargheists

And my opponent called it, a Massacre Victory to me! Go Death Clown Ogres of Doom!

Awesome good battle report  enjoyed reading it.
Ogre Achivements 10/101
So the GT has ended, not sure where I came but my T4 defeat certainly dropped my placings.

My list can be seen above and I'll stick photos of the army up this evening when back home.

Game 1: Vs Wood Elves Scenario - Meeting engagement I think? set up 12" diagonally across the board.

2 Lv4 mages mounted, 1 BSB mounted, 2 Heroes mounted with Eternal Guard upgrade
3x10 Glade Riders
10 Way watchers
10 Warhawk riders

Well a very fluid army that just moved around mine like water. Game ended up being my three wizards winning the game by casting magic missiles every turn, 2d6st2 beasts, 2d6str2 ogres, d6str4 fireball.

Result: Massacre win

Game 2: Vs Empire Blood & Glory
So as the new book has only been out for a month the GT held that the old book would be used. His list:
Arch Lector, Wizard lord, BSB, Master Engineer, Lv1 wizard
40 halberds w/10 halberd det, 5FC det. 3x14 flagellants, 2x10 greatswords, 12 Free company, 2 cannons, 2 morats, 2x5 knights

I had some incredible bad luck this game but I was also out played. The cannons killed 2 mournfangs in T1 and I never could gain the initiative. Around T4 I finally managed to get the upper hand only for my BSB to die to a single str3 attack from the last flagellant, meaning I went down to 2 fortitude and hence broke giving the field to my opponent

Result: Massacre loss

Game 3: Vs High Elves Pitched Battle

I came into this game disapointed, from being on Table 3 in Game 2 to Table 9 game 3 - was an annoying drop. My opponent this game was a seasoned player who has been coming to the HKGT for the last 6-7 years now and has won it a few times. Even though he was playing Helves I knew I'd be up for a touch match up.

Teclis (light magic), 4xlv1 mages (all light) BSB, 16 swordmasters, 12 swordmasters, 7 White lions, 15 sea guard, 20 archers, 15 archers, 15 archers, 4 great eagles.

This game I got slapped by magic pretty heavily. Teclis and one of the level1's was casting 2d6 Str8 banishment every turn which was shredding my units. My Ironguts got done in a single turn but thankfully my Hellheart Butcher surived and I ran him suicide like deep into the High Elf lines. Once he was finished Teclis had 1 wound left and all 4 level 1's were dead so managed to reduce the magical onslaught somewhat!

The unit of the match were my mournfangs, they charged down the flank of the table taking out both units of swordmasters, a giant eagle & the Sea guard. Ending the game with 1 model on 1 wound left!

Game 4: Vs Lizardmen Dawn attack

Another magic heavy list played by a player who spoke very limited English making the game difficult for us to play. Probably my 2nd worst game of warhammer ever. Everything that could go wrong did go wrong for me and my opponent didn't really offer anything friendly to the experienc except jumping for joy and high fiving his friends after the game.

Slann (light), Slann (light), skink priest, skink priest, Scar vet, scar vet
36 temple guard, 36 saurus, 4x10 skinks w/javelins, 2x6 chameleon skinks

Turn 1: 1 Ironblaster misfires then my second Ironblaster blows itself up killing a mournfang. Mournfangs fail their panic test, run 16" towards the flank of the table and in front of a unit of skinks. Skinks charge, mournfangs run off the table! What a great start... Turn 2 Firebelly blows himself up along with a irongut. Turn 3 helheart needs 2+ to hit both slann, I roll a 1. Ironblaster suffers 5 wounds from javelins etc. 4+ save...fail all 5.

It was a horrible game for me. My opponent scored 1700vps, I scored 0

Result: Massacre loss

Game 5: vs Vampire Counts - Pitched Battle, General worth 200vps

So game5 found myself on Table 12, a far cry from where I wanted to be. But I was determined after game 4 to get a victory and end the tourney on a high

His list:
Count Mannfred, Vampire lord, Vamp BSB, 2x20 zombies, 40 ghouls, 4x5 Direwolves, 2x2 fellbats, 2x6 Vargheists, 7 Blood knights.

Well this game was great fun, easily the best of the tournament. Although I didn't win, It was a 3 tick Great Game for sportsmanship. We both went into the game looking for a win but by Turn 2 when the slaughter had well and truly begun we decided to just go ahead and have some fun.

After T6 all I had left were 5 bulls, tyrant, slaughtermaster, bsb. All he had left was vamp lord, 3 blood knights and 4 fellbats (1 unit that had been buffed by Mannfred).

I had around 600vps more then him but we were using the 0-49%=draw, 50-99% = minor win, 100% = crushing win system so the game ended up being a draw, 2400vps to 1800vps

Result Draw

So no Placing for me but over all not too bad, 2 Wins, 1 Draw, 2 Losses.

My mate with his nasty Daemon army was on Table 1 until Game 5 where he was done in by an Ogre army (which won 1st overall). Disappointing for my mate but good representing for Ogres!

I also acquired a mass amount of new Ogre models brining the army to around 7800pts or 8k. I've decide i'm going to repaint the faces of my ogres and get rid of the clown faces. I like my bright colourful pants and I like my skin tone but I think the faces detract from my painting (I know I'm not amazing but I am decent enough that a shitty face mask ruins the figs).

Blue = painted probably with clown faces that need to be redone lol.
Yellow = WIP

I still love these guys... in that creepy "Stay away from me and tame some really big lions" sort of way.  It sounds like you had fun at the tourney, which is the most important part!

Quick question, though:  the bright green stripe on the pants of your irongut - what's the progression?  I like that it is bright without being neon...

As always, thanks for sharing!!!
Ogre Achievements - 26/101 and counting!
When I'm home I've got lots more photos to upload and I'll run through the green for you as well, really want to show off my Irongut banner
OK so here is my WIP list at the moment and painted stuff.

30 bulls in total - faces need repainting to get rid of the clowns, they're done with 3 different pants:

This one chap has a tattoo painted on his arm, it's the same as mine (although better done if I do say so myself).

I redid the cloth on my tyrant to bring it into line with the pants so here he is finished:

Here is my WIP slaughtermaster/butcher, he's pretty much done except for a few touchups and highlights I want to do.

My WIP Mournfangs, need to do some detail, need to actually do the mournfangs! haha. they need a banner as well.

My Ironguts, these guys need a highlight on the armour and faces repainted. I'm very happy with their banner:

My Bruiser BSB / Maneater banner

My WIP Firebelly, I decided I would redo the skin but have only redone the basecoat which is why the flesh is flat.

This it for the moment. Got a 5000pt game against Tomb Kings in 2 days time which I'm looking forward to. Then I want to finish all the above before I start a IG army before attending a tourney in Novemeber
I must say that I really liked the Joker theme you had going. But I can see how it can be too much if the whole army is in clown face. Having said that: I do think that the paymaster maneater should be allowed to keep his warpaint. He just looks so very very awesome.
