Nipponese Ogre Army

Hey Guts,

Wanted to start a Gnoblog with my Japanese themed ogres. There will be Samurai, Ninja, Karate Guys and Sumo. I already have a jump start on a lot of this, hope you enjoy the pics.... if they show up.

Nice, I'll follow this Gnoblog closely. It all looks very promising, especially the converted weapons on the last picture in your first post!

Pretty awesome theme if you ever need ideas there are some japanese ogres in the gallary. I will be keeping my eye on for this gnoblog.

Here are some pictures of a Sumo Giant that I converted out of the old metal giant. This was my first time working with green stuff. I planned to use him in a all sumo army as either a giant or as Skragg.

Frost: Yeah I was just going to do brown belts for all the normal ogres and black belts for the karate-esk bruisers and tyrants. I have one Tyrant/Bruiser I converted and painted out of the Araby Maneater that I will try and post up tomorrow.

I am working on making Sumo Gorgers and Maneaters at the moment to go with the giant. I will have the gorgers in normal mawashi belts like the giant and the maneaters will be similar but will have a kesho-mawashi (ceremonial apron) and some armour on their ankles, wrists and one of their shoulder. Tyrant/Bruisers will have all of this plus a tsuna (white braided cord belt worn by Yokozuna's).

That giant is AWESOME!!  And the head really fits the sumo-ness without GS. 

BUT!!!  Put him onto a charriot base, because that is what giants and Skragg use.  And it gives you more room to throw other niponeese stuff onto the base.

I will keep an eye on this gnoblog. It's really good.  Keep it up!!

Giants do not use a chariot base and you can use the base they come with.

Love the giant its one of the most unique that have seen.

Gutchef: Yeah I put him on a 40mm base so I could make 2 chariot bases. One as a giant base with the dead horse of the silver helm he is holding and one as a Skragg base with a big rice bowl so there would be no confusion with anyone I played. Saves $$ this way too.

My local hobby store didn't have green stuff when I went to get some more so I ended up with this yellow stuff. It can be sculpted easier then the green stuff but is really flimsy. Anyways here is my progress on a Yokozuna Tyrant.

Okay been slacking alittle too much... Got a 2500 point tournament coming up on the 19th and everything has to be fully painted. I wanted to be able to field an army of all Sumo ogres (henceforth SumOgres) but I don't have enough free time to get that all done 

So my plan is to include the Samurai Ogre Ironguts and my Karate Weapon-wielding Ogres to fill out the rest of the force. My list will include...

1 Slaughtermaster (Sumo) (95% sculpted, not painted)
1 Butcher (Hibachi Cook) (painted)
1 Firebelly (Sumo) (not sculpted or painted)
10 Ogres (2 not painted)
8 Ironguts (Samurai) (1 not painted)
8 Maneaters (Sumo) (3 sculpted, not painted)
8 Maneaters (Sumo) (6 sculpted at 40%)

I was torn on either a hunter with 2 tusks or a giant... either way both are painted so I don't have to worry about that till I finalize my list. But as it stands I have alot to do in 2 weeks. Here is my work from last night, started the legs on my first assembly line batch.

Okay here is my progress so far on the maneaters... I ran out of yellow stuff so I couldn't finish the three off in the back. last two pictures are the maneaters with the Yokozuna (who will most likely be my Slaughtermaster).

Let me know if you guys have any cool ideas, comments or critiques.

In other news I found a small about of green stuff (can't get to my gaming store till Saturday to buy more) so I did the Mawashi Aprons on 4 of the maneaters. It was frustrating cause the green stuff would not stick to the yellow stuff.... at all.

But here is what I got...

Update time....

I went to get more green or yellow stuff over the weekend and my local hobby store had none. They did have White stuff which I bought and tried to work with but it was not working for me. Went to another hobby store and got some grey stuff and it works pretty good for me.

It set me alittle behind for being done for this tournament so I am going to take my 2 units of 8 sumo maneaters down to 2 units of 6. This way I will only have to make 1 more maneater and a firebelly.

Should have some painting progress up by Weds.

Don't mean to triple post but...

I painted these 8 guys last night (which I think is a new record for me). I have 5 more ogres to paint to be ready for this 2500 point tournament tomorrow so I should finish just in time!

Well I was all painted for the 2500 point tournament    But I got crushed pretty good 2 losses and a draw 

I did win best painted though! <crowd cheers>

Looking at those yellow maneaters I can't help thinking of Homer Simpson. But the whole thing is totally brilliant and the sumo posing on the maneaters is inspired. Well done.

I have been slacking alittle but I busted out my prize and started working on them. I got a TK Sphinx for my best painted and traded it in for 2 boxes of mournfangs. I want these guys to be mounted samurai and the mournfang I want to convert to temple foo dogs (see pic). The mournfang will be alot of work but here is my progress on the first rider.
