The Blackfist Tribe- Bellygrub's slow as molasses gnoblog

So I've decided to start up a blog to see if it can help keep me motivated and help me to finish painting my army a bit quicker. First the obligatory back story! There will be a lot of words mere.

After (poorly) painting up an Ogre army when they were first released my group dumped fantasy. So my Ogres sat in a box for seven years or so collecting dust. Recently we've decided to take the plunge once more so I dusted off the old big bellied lads...only to be sorely disappointed. My painting had come a long way in seven years. So I decided to see if I could do a better job. One skin test later and I sold off the old army and here I am!

 I decided I wanted to go the piratey/maneater route. So I came up with a loose back story about a collection of maneaters who've banded together and travel the coast (inset Warhammer Caribbean like location here) sacking ships who come to close to land and attacking random settlements here and there. They never take to the sea. The boss gets sea sick and what self respecting Ogre would lose his lunch in front of his men?

 A few weeks later I had this pile of resin:


 Titan Forge! The models are fantastic (if a little soft in some areas, like the feet). I plan to use the pirate lads as man eaters with pistols and command, the Tyrant Captain and BSB standing in as the command models.

 I've only assembled the Ironblaster croc so far:


 Next I set about greenstuffing up some bulls. I've only used Greenstuff as a gap filler up until now so it was time to do some experimenting. I'm pretty pleased with my results:







Currently I'm working on getting the first unit of Ogre boys painted. I'm trying to make the command models for the different units a bit unique by using GW maneaters and such.

 For this unit I've got Hilda (the female eater) and her husband Cooky (bellower) in the lead, along with a beasts butcher built from the Stonhorn hunter bits:



 I need to get some pics up of the few models I've painted but this is currently where I stand. Hilda is now finished and I'll probably start working on the butcher tonight (unless the weather cooperates and allows me to prime today)

 

Bazinga!  WOnderful start to a new gnoblog!  Great to have you :-)  Pirates are always radical... some of those models look a bit familiar, too.  Captain M - you've used these, right?

Agreed, fer it's always good t' see more bigbellied Buccaneers about! I must say there's a lot of inspiration in there fer me as well, those bellies and beards are very sculpted. I usually let my own Swashbuckler character run around with their gut out.

Smart thinking with the Titan Forge lads, they look fine! Make sure t' keep us updated.

PS: Anvalous, me own lads are partially based on the old Perry Ogres from 4th edition (which are more like Dwarf-Ogres these days), some of them lacking distinct Pirate paraphernalia, with only the Leadbelchers coming from the current line. But indeed, I tend not to take gutplates either (on my heroes at least). Oh and part of them are self-sculpted.

 One thing I've found out is that I need to sculpt the beards a bit chunkier. When a primed them they lost a bit of detail. Now I'm moving on to assembling the iron guts though and sadly I don't have much planned for them beyond using an Empire Maneater as the Gutlord.
 
 Hopefully I'll have something to show before the weekend is out.

So I managed to get the full 3k army assembled and primed. Now I'm starting the ever so slow process of painting . I'm doing the army in batches of 1k to make it playable.

 The "cook" is the bellower and the lady is the unit leader. I have each unit in my army being lead by a maneater model to spice things up and fit my theme.

 The first of a six man Iron Gut squad is done. I'm doing this unit in an Empire theme:

I like your Gnoblog so far! The painting is nice, as are the conversions: Your Ogres without gutplates look very good! The red/white pants on the Irongut are also quite nice!

And I love the idea that a Maneater leads your units, fitting and visually very pleasing as well! 

Lastly, I'm looking forward to the Titan forge lot. They are great figures from what I've seen online and very characterful! How is the quality of the bases and the models themselves?

Your Ogres could come from Sartosa, as it is the Warhammer island of pirates: It's near the coast of Tilea, but not part of it (well, there's no Tilea as a single state anyways...) and instead sort of ruled by a vicious Pirate Queen (IIRC she was female).

Thanks Morkash. I'm going to work on retaking the pics. I had to use the flash and it really washed out the paint jobs.

The Titan Forge models are excellent. I had no casting flaws and resin is good and solid. They're not as modular as I'd like (you have to do a bit of cutting and gsing to swap poses around) but you get quite a few bits/heads. The bases are especially nice and I wish they sold the ogre bases separate.

The first 1k I'm doing up is a gw store legal list but the Titan forge models are on deck after that.

It's all very very nice. I got my inspiration from you to do the bellies on my cave/mine Ogres. I'll soon post pics of them and you'll recognize something familiar!

Well I 've been slowly painting up my units.

 My first unit is now fully done:

 
 The figure on the far left is a Level 2 Butcher with Gut Magic. I swapped him out for a cow bearing bellower (blatantly stolen from a member here)


 I've been continuing on with my Iron Guts unit:

 That's the Slaughtermaster General there on the right. He'll either have Gut Magic or Death magic. He looks more Deathy then Gutty to me.

 I've also begun work on one of the Mournfang Riders. He's taking forever to paint and is still very much WiP. I've got the mount mostly finished now and am working my way up to the saddle and the rider:

 A friend of mine pointed out that my army has taken on a bit of an Empire Feel with the Iron Guts (and the regular Ogres being Militia) so I decided to carry the theme over a bit to a new Witch Hunter Hunter:



  Since my main opponent is a Vampire Count player he'll be used during those games just for fun/fluffy purposes. I plan on adding a warrior priest bruiser at some point in the near future too.

 Two quick shots of the "Warrior Priest" bruiser I slapped together out of some left over bits. I would have liked to add robes to him but I don't have enough faith (ha!) in my green stuffing skills just yet. I'll try it out on a basic bull at some point and maybe redo the Priest if I'm happy with the result.





 Next in the queue is a Tyrant on a Magic Carpet....which is an Ogre on a Gryphon. That's proving to be interesting.

What kit is that head from?

It's from the Ironblaster kit. It's the lesser used head. I scraped off the bits of metal shards that were sticking out of his face and head.
