Sandpeoples mini Orges

original thread ↗

I sold my Orge kingdoms army a year ago, and wanted to start a new one. I want to avoid one thing in this army: The standard ogre body.
I have a hard time getting the pants right and let´s face it, there are only 2 different bodies for most ogres in the army: right leg forward, or left leg forward. That being said, I am trying something out using spare components from my old ogre army and am combining these with the bodies of Orc big uns (or just orcs?).

I think the size of the heads and hands fit the larger orc bodies (from the old battalion) and you get more variety in their poses. Also you get more space on the base to go nuts with cool bases. Any ideas what I could do with them would be much appreciated!

Anyway here are the first pictures from my first 2 hours of cutting and gluing:

Hehe, I like the idea! (for some reason or another I seem to be one of the few people who like those Orcs...they got me into Warhammer!)

They are smaller of course, but in earlier times almost everything was smaller. You could try to get a few old Ogres on eBay or from other second hand source, they should have the right size!

Black Orcs could work for Ironguts, they are quite bulky and barely fit on their 25 mm base anyways. Or 40k Ork Nobs, they are quite big as well, should be even larger than your ordinary Fantasy Orc...

I'll be eyein' this closely, it looks interesting for sure! :)

Edit:
A link to the old ogres might be helpful, on a second thought. I mean Marauder's old range:

http://solegends.com/marauder/ms4ogrehero.htm
I have the MS41 Hero, an he is quite a bit smaller than newer Ogres, I can take a comparison shot of him to Ogres and Orc models if you're interested.

I love these mini Ogres! Can't wait to see some painted!

Thanks for the feedback guys! It is always appreciated.  :)

So last night a friend dropped by so not much has happened, but I started converting a slaughtermaster and a butcher. Pics of them coming tomorrow.

Here are their bases, filled with body parts:

Aye, they do resemble the Ogres of 4th edition, in particular the Perry Ogres a lot. (which are, incident'lly, the start of me very own Ogre crew).  I can naught but agree with Morkash in this case, but I might be able to offer ye another comparision shot, including one with the Old Heroquest Ogres. Since these Perry Minis are already a deal shorter and heavier armoured than the current plastic range, I call mine Dwogres (Dwarf Ogres) or Zwogers (Zwerg Oger in german), so if ye likes, matey, ye can adopt the name fer yer breed as well.

An update of todays work:

A butcher and a slughtermaster. Both started out as orcs which I cut in half and glued together with a spare bit between the two body halves to make them slightly taller than the other ogres. I then used loads of green stuff making them fatter. My girlfriend asked me what I was doing when she saw me sculpt the man-boobs and ass-crack of one of them. Kinnda hard to answer her not sounding stupid.

I also bought a stonehorn and an ironblaster and got a lot of cool stuff to be used on the butcher and slaughtermaster:

An update: Went to my local gaming club yesterday and sculpted some more on the characters for the army. Started work on the BSB and a firebelly.

Here is first the butcher. Will be armed with great weapon and hellheart.
The other is the slughtermaster. Don´t know what to give him.

GREAT IDEA!! All the rules for ogres but each one is different looking!  Who'da thunk that?!

Over at the Gnoblar Tower, we were thinking of tweeking the rules pamflet (not army book) that we have and this would make for great Ogre runts!  I'm already thininking of the backround.  I cannot wait to see them painted!

My wife says I cheat at games; I don't cheat, I just don't learn all the rules!

Here´s todays work:

Firebelly and ogre WIP

Butcher bases
Oh, and one more thing: I want the base for the firebelly to look like he has used flaming attacks on the remains on the base. Now it looks like it is not painted. Any ideas?
I love, love, love those butcher bases (and your tiny ogres). Good job.

2 questions:

1. Do they multiply if you throw water on them?
2. Can you feed them after midnight?

Thank you!

To answer your questions:
1. They sure do. They are really cute befofe, but the offspring are real badasses!
2. Being ogres they eat around the clock, and the result is nasty.

Hope to get some time this weekend to start painting the butchers.
These look a treat and it's a very original idea as well-Keep us posted!

They look nice and evil as well-More so than their bigger cousins. They actually make me think of Duergar and Chaos Dwarf foot soldiers. Ace!
Well it´s been a while. My daughter thought the cauldron on my butcher base looked cool so she "examined" it and I had to start all over with it.

Anyway. Here are the slaughtermaster and bucther (Still WIP)  :

Looking great!! Still loving this idea...

That is disturbing in a good way and they remind me of the pygmees of Diablo II.
My hood is my castle...
I really like this as well. Great way to keep it unique and get something you like. They look like Ogre Dwarves, or would that be dwarf ogres?

Keep up the great work.
