Ancient Thundertusk Rules

Ancient Thundertusk

M  WS  BS S  T  W  I  A LD
6    3    0  6   6  7  3  5  5
350 Points

Troop Type-Monster

Natural Armour- (4+)

Magical Atunement- Over the long years the Thundertusk horns have caused the creature to gain a slight resistance against the eldritch energies.
-Grants Magic Resistance (1) and a (+6) Ward Save.

Saddled and Geared for War- This model maybe taken as a mount for a Tyrant. While the Tyrant is mounted it can be equiped with a Harpoon Launcher or Chain Trap. (While in Close Combat the Tyrant is assumed to put away the Launcher or Chain trap and uses its normal equipment. The cost for the chain trap or harpoon launcher is inclued in the Thundertusks point cost).

Embodiment of Winter- The arua of chill that surrounds this ancient creature has become so frigid that cannon shots break like glass against this beast.
-If an Attacks with the Mulitple Wounds special rule wounds the Ancient Thundertusk, halve the number of Wounds inflicted (rounding fractions up).

Lagre Target
Numbing Chill- Any enemy model within 12" of an Ancient Thundertusk has the Always Strikes Last special rule.
Smooth Ride
Sphere of Frost-wreathed Ice
Terror

The only rule difference from the normal Thundertusk is Beast Riders rule if the Tyrant is mounted. Let me know if you think that these rules are fair or need to be changed. I am open to any suggestions.

If you're going to spend that many points on it, you might as well have the tyrant be mounted already. Also, that's probably not enough. You should add the rule where you take half wounds from multi wound weapons from the stonehorn, as if a tyrant is mounted, that's more than 1/4th of your army gone from 2 or 3 cannonball shots, as if it hits the tyrant, it could kill him... Just my thoughts.
Facing ogres is like facing an avalanche.

yeah, I would just make it a Mount option for a Tyrant. mounting in the middle of the game is a little odd, especially wih no restrictions. You could just pull your tyrant out of combat and put him on board.

If you're going to do that, I would put him with a option to mount with a bruiser, too, as that's his second-hand man. Hmm... This would probably make the Ttusk worth taking, for the 18" inspiring presence. I'm not sure if you get the range bonus for the hold your ground! rule, though...

You forgot the thunderthusk's bs.
For an extra 100 points and the loss of two riders I'd want to see a few more wounds or something slightly better than +1 Armour, +1 Save.

I would also simply make it a Lord mount choice.
As danielking4812 suggested I will go back and give it the rule like the stonehorn and a wound as well as make it mountable from to get go. I have also had the liberty of giving it a Ward Save.

@Brainfreezer- the book says the thundertusk has no bs.

Great! Now I would use this in battle. But doesn't the Ttusk have 2 riders? Does the Tyrant just fire the stone thrower and stuff by himself?
Facing ogres is like facing an avalanche.

You are totaly right I forgot to specify the details of that. I will go back and fix that.

Great.  :)

The riders don't fire the Stonethrower. Thats the Thundertusk horking up a great big magical Iceball at you!

Yellow snowball attack!
I think that the tyrant should be mounted with another regular ogre, though, probably...
Facing ogres is like facing an avalanche.

considering how large the origonal thundertusk is n how much larger this one would be some impact hits would be nice  ;)
we are da executors for a reason you stand in our way ... you die hahaha
or make the Aura more powerful. Maybe ASL and -2 Inititive.

And while we are at it, change all the Auras to effect "Units within 6" get ASL"

@grey templar- Do you mean the Numbing chill or my embodiment of winter rule?

Both

If you're going to change mechanics I would stick with the precedent. For example, if you want a larger numbing chill rule, I would say something like all models within 12" are affected. Keeps things consistent.
Thanks for the suggestion. I will make sure to edit it.

If we're doing one rider, perhaps you should increase the cost and add this:

Mountain Monster- The thundertusk is so tall that if the tyrant is mounted, the Inspiring Presence of the tyrant increases from 18 inches to 24 inches, as the thundertusk is very tall.
Facing ogres is like facing an avalanche.

I believe the extra's I have added are a decent cost but, I do like the sound of the Mountain Monster rule. It now makes me wish they made a bigger thundertusk model.

Just remove the magic res. and remove the ward save. Replace it with "Whenever a spell targeting the ttusk is cast, on a roll of 5+, the effects of the spell are negated as the coldness of the ttusk freezes the winds of magic in midair. Unlike the beast riders, the Tyrant is warmer. Therefore, this roll goes to a 6+ when the tyrant is mounted."
Facing ogres is like facing an avalanche.

Magic Resistance Improves ward saves against magic. The way the rules for my Tundertusk are the ward save would be increased to 5+ with the magic rsistance (1). Its also on pg.72 of the Island of Blood rulebook, in case I didn't give a good enough description.

Ok.
Facing ogres is like facing an avalanche.

Any more suggestions for rule changes?

I still think that handling a monster is a bit hard to do by one ogre. Maybe add a gnoblar or two?
Facing ogres is like facing an avalanche.

One ogre can handle a Stonehorn, which is completely enraged and charges everything in sight.

I think the biggest baddest ogre around can handle the relativly tame Thundertusk.

OK.

I would have to agree with gray templar on that one.
