New Plastic Wolves From Games Workshop

I reckon these new Wolves from Games Workshop would make great stand-ins for Sabretusks, and I'll definitely be adding a few to my army!

Looks like they've sculpted some little 'uns and some big 'uns, all plastic kits (hurrah!):





The current 20 year old plastic Wolves were definitely due an update, keep an eye out for the new doggies in March!

Up until now, I'd have said that the sculptors struggle a bit with dogs and the likes, but they've seriously improved their technique in that respect.

These are going to be awesome.

Liking the smaller ones but the bigger ones will provide a great base for a Werewolf Ogre army... Gonna be epic!

I think I'll see how the big 'uns look on cavalry bases to use as Sabretusks, if the little 'uns are going to be used for Wolf Riders in the future it might make more sense visually to use the big 'uns considering the stat difference (plus every beastie seems to be huge in the Mountains of Mourn!).

I was thinking that too. The tricky bit will be if the Marine legs come attached to the wolf...

And people complained about Mournfang saddles


They look awsome, aside from the very tiny saddle.

That's not all folks, along with the wolfies the long awaited models for Tyranids are coming as well.

May I introduce to you...

The Terynofex, Tervigon and my favourite, a plastic set for tyrant and swarmlord (or resin maybe?):

Tyrant/Swarmlord is plastic as well. Resin kits are rarely dual purpose.

The little wolves will definitely feature in my O&G army. I wish they'd do decent riders and chariots for them too. I mean, just a sprue of five goblins to go with that wolf sprue couldn't be too hard to do. I could see myself buying a lot of those.

Bear in mind that the Thunderwolves are pretty enormous, roughly the size of a Juggernaut. I don't think you'll be getting them on a cavalry base any time soon.

You can probably not get all four paws onto a cavalry base but given the poses it should be workable.

I'm considering the big ones for Goblin character mounts to make them stand out more from the troops. It might be over the top though.

My concern with using the big ones as sabretusks is the bionic bits on them. Until I see the sprue I won't be sure I can build wolves without bionics on them. Other thing that will be of interest is a size comparison with mournfangs.

I might get some of the big wolves, put them on a 40mm square base, try to fit a few goblins on it and use it as a unit filler for my gobbo units in my O&G army hmmm.....

I 2nd that. And the bionic bits too. theres always a way to make it work and i fully intend to find it.

They just had to release amazing models from two of my armies simultaneously. Oh my poor wallet. 

I wonder if the thunderwolves are large enough to look good with an ogre on top.

Or if you could make some gnoblar calvary with them...

I think the thunder wolves are the same size a juggernaut so they may be a bit too small for ogres to ride.

Indeed they are. I'm still not fond of the idea of Space Marines riding wolves, but they really nailed the sculpts for both them and the normal wolves.

They can't possibly avoid using them in Goblin sets in a reasonably near future can they? The sprues are even cut to allow two wolves to be put in a box with a chariot.

If you look at the wolves they have a smooth area of fur on their backs where a goblin could be mounted easily for use as wolf riders. I would guess either the drop the number of wolf riders in a box down to 5 or keep it at 8 and use the 2 extra wolves in the chariot box.

I so wanna use those riderless ones for sabertusk replacements
