welcome everyone, this is my second gnoblog to date-the first is long delited now due to loads of random crap on it. ive been painting these ogres for well over a year now so thought it time to get them on here. i dont play much so the army is not so much an army more a colecion of loved models. hope you enjoy whats on there so far jonny
jonnyandbex21 Feb 2012
my absolute fav model-hes a heavily converted hunter, all the way from lustria. i cant take credit for the converting that accolade goes to mr W Enefer. to be fair hes done most of the buiding work in this blog-big thanks for that. he does need a couple of sabretusks so for that im going to use the new finecast coldones, i did fancy a pair of razordons but sadly they are still in metals
jonnyandbex21 Feb 2012
the same hunter but from the other side
jonnyandbex21 Feb 2012
slave giant, armed with a great sword!!
jonnyandbex21 Feb 2012
ahh mournfang how i love them so. ive built and painted a unit of four of these babys. take carefull note of the scraplaunchers rhinox heads on them so now they are rhinox riders, on a similar note does anyone have any spare heads as my scrappies are missing some
jonnyandbex21 Feb 2012
a close up of the rhinox, such a easy convrsion. works realy well too. the only problem is no one realy notices the swap
jonnyandbex21 Feb 2012
unit champion with ogre pistol
jonnyandbex21 Feb 2012
the unit alltogether
jonnyandbex21 Feb 2012
the next few pics will be of my various "great swords" aka ironguts. this guy is the unit standard, these guys look very impressive when they are all together.
jonnyandbex21 Feb 2012
the unit champion-it was a very difficult choice to select a champion from all the lovely ogres mr W made.
jonnyandbex21 Feb 2012
this guy gets a lot of looks too, quite an original piece.
jonnyandbex21 Feb 2012
what could be better than a nice tidy unit of six complited greatswords, each one takeing about two days of painting
jonnyandbex21 Feb 2012
also ive since tidyd up the base edges of the models. feel free to coment on the models. they do look a little un highlighted but thats mainly due to the camera and lighting. currently im working on my entry for the painting comp in gw york for feb. its one of the ice storn horn thingys, more on that later
jonnyandbex21 Feb 2012
so in order to beat six great swords in greatness eight are needed-is it possible to beat eightt??
jonnyandbex21 Feb 2012
just because i love ogres soooo much. theres even a cheeky charicter in the front rank, more on him later
jonnyandbex21 Feb 2012
i cant top this lot-its the biggest unit ive ever seen assembled let alone painted. will dig out bragg too take some good pics of him too.
Frost Jotun22 Feb 2012
Those are some big Greenskins Ogres! Excellent work!
jonnyandbex22 Feb 2012
ive got my entry into gw in good time, good insperation realy as the dead line made me push a bit harder to get him done. results will be in on sat. i was too rushed today to take any pics of him at the store. also did a little shopping and now have a tyrant, butcher andfire belly. i could do with somehelp with the butcher as he needs to be empired up somewhat, definatley a head swap as the current one is dire, tho what weapons is a issue to keep with the theme? on a unrealted not ive also got some ork tankbustas and some troolbloods for hordes. should keep me busy
Komone22 Feb 2012
You could model the empire butcher a little like Friar Tuck - A big fat monk style character with a big meat-stick weapon of sorts, Firebelly I'd be tempted to do some sort of engineer with goggles and a flamet hrower type device.
Great looking tribe.

jonnyandbex22 Feb 2012
flame throwers and monks, thats a hard one to pull off-tho would look ace. will google some images n see what comes up
jonnyandbex22 Feb 2012
bragg the gutsman
jonnyandbex22 Feb 2012
jonnyandbex22 Feb 2012
the only leadbelchers in the whole army. they were also very nice to paint up may well do another three at some stage for a jucy unit size
jonnyandbex22 Feb 2012
the start of my bulls, the shields have came out great along side the short swords, as the bulls/swordsmen have not had the training or indeed have the intrest in there weaponry it has become much more rusted than the great swords
jonnyandbex22 Feb 2012
a shot of the other three
jonnyandbex23 Mar 2012
job done

Gundehar25 Mar 2012
I kinda envy your straight Empire type swords, and your painting is as good as any I have seen, I would make me some cool swords like yours if I knew how.
jonnyandbex27 Mar 2012
ive nearly painted all my assembled ogres!! just got skraggs pot and a thunder tusk with riders left to do. i will be makeing a new unit of empire bulls-this time ive settled for flagelants, theres a few people asked about makeing the swords so i will post some howw to pics up there also. ive also finished my stand in sabertusks using cold ones. more pics will be following
jonnyandbex27 Mar 2012
my two cold one sabre tusks
jonnyandbex27 Mar 2012
the ginger beast.
jonnyandbex27 Mar 2012
10 strong unit of bulls, these are meant to be flagelants, ive taken off all the hands and replaced them woth punch daggers. they still dont seem to downtrodden yet,
jonnyandbex27 Mar 2012
any thoughts on how to make them look more like the empire variant would be appriciated-if not they may end up as regular bulls
Gundehar28 Mar 2012
Long ragged brown robes with the fronts open on their chests, and with holes in them.
Bellygrub28 Mar 2012
What Gundehar said and maybe something to make them more fanatical to the maw. The flagellants have books and scrolls so maybe come up with an ogrified "great Maw" worshipping equivalent. Some recipe scrolls? Pots chained to them?
Perhaps an ogre warrior priest in the rear of the unit whipping them into a frenzy?
jonnyandbex28 Mar 2012
i must admit im at a loss on this one, i can do conversions but the gs work eludes me/ ive since poped empire hats on four of the guys, its coing to rely on the paint scheme pulling it into the empire theme to match the rest of the army
Johnny-Crass28 Mar 2012
Fantastic work sir!
jonnyandbex03 Apr 2012
could not resist painting him up first!! very nice conversion and pretty easy to do too.
jonnyandbex06 Apr 2012
work on this unit is coming along nicely, nearly half way done
Harkon Greywolf06 Apr 2012
Looking very "uniform" there, keep 'em coming!
HG
aedes07 Apr 2012
Some really good ideas in there!
jonnyandbex11 Apr 2012
thanks for all the feedback, am chuffed you all like them. currently im still working on the bellower, theres only the huge horn left to do on him. its a slow job
Sigmar1312 Apr 2012
I love the colors that you use. What kind of paint is that if you don't mind me asking?

jonnyandbex12 Apr 2012
Thar she blows, finaly got the front rank all dusted off now.
jonnyandbex12 Apr 2012
@ sigmar. all the paints are from gw. the ogres have been painted in an old school way by watering the paints down lots then adding succsessive layers onto them. its easy to do just takes ages for each model. the yellow on the trousers is about 7 layers.
jonnyandbex17 Apr 2012
well it seems the end is in sight with this army of empire ogres, its taken almoast two years to do, granted there have been gaps here and there, but theres been an ogre on the desk for tha amount of time. project "o" was dispatched ages ago so i eagerly await there return. the thunder tusk has been glued to his base, meaning all the paints dry on him-the riders are still black at the moment. whitch leaves me sadly with only one iron blaster to do. the second rank of my ogres to complite. a lone leadbelcher-makeing the unit upto 4. i dont have enuf parts to build my maneaters as the ogre pistols seem to be as rare as unicorn poo. once some funds are available i will get titan forges anchor bashers and two of gw veryown maneaters-the pirate and the paymaster-tho possibly the one with the hammer too.
jonnyandbex17 Apr 2012
from humble begginings a army shall grow
jonnyandbex17 Apr 2012
this is the tusk all complited, minus the riders. its an average paint job-i did try but cant win them all i guess

jonnyandbex21 Apr 2012
ive complited one of the back rank of bulls, whitch leaves me these four to do. just got the base layers started-theres plenty left to do.
jonnyandbex21 Apr 2012
@tbone. i used to live down in brighton so when crawley got the ogres released i figured i would post them up there. now im back in the not so sunny north. i do go down every so often so will meet you for a game one day
jonnyandbex24 Apr 2012
ive a little more progression with the last four. hope to complite one of them tonights
jonnyandbex24 Apr 2012
put a little order in from gw today as ive had some vouchers burning a hole in my pocket. got three maneaters, the hammer guy, the pirate and the paymaster. thats a big milestone in my army done-all models purchased. Also orderd the ogres from titan forge, the guys with the diveing helmuts. that will make a nice little unit of 6 maneaters
jonnyandbex29 Apr 2012
my gw order arrived today, 3 man eaters ready to build. also the titan forge order has arrived too.
jonnyandbex30 Apr 2012
heres the unit of bulls all finished. onto the man eaters next
anvalous30 Apr 2012
Still liking this blog! Your blue and yellow work really well with your green flesh. Very nice units, too.
Ogre Achievements - 26/101 and counting!
jonnyandbex06 May 2012
3 of the new ogres from titan forge
jonnyandbex06 May 2012
a much more traditional fromt rank for the man eaters, titan forges anchor bashers will make a nice second rank for these guys
jonnyandbex06 May 2012
the sizes on these guys are very good match, just need to start painting them up now-it could be a little time as ive got some other projects on the go this month. i will endevour to paint something green to swell the ranks
Zolas07 May 2012
Wow they really are a nice size and the pics you have taken really show their detail indeed! Very nice models! I may even purchase 1 for myself as a maneater having seen these pictures now. Thanks.

Those Anchorbashers are awesome! I am playing with the idea of getting some too... they just dont fit very well with my army theme....
jonnyandbex15 May 2012
ive got the last leadbelcher done, he is in the unit with some of the other guys that ive allready uploaded

ive been a little sidetracked with some other projects, gonling, commisions and orks-not to mention some grey knights arriving today. the next step will be to work on those anchor bashers from titan forge.
jonnyandbex09 Aug 2012
ok ive been away for some time and the ogres have been belowing out for a coat of paint. ive had a good days painting today and so far ive got threw a full ogre, a anchor basher and got some colours on gw pirate too. Think i will get some more painting done then add some pics
Ramos D. Caver10 Aug 2012
Hoy did You made the yellow?
I want a similar tone, does army painter demonic yellow do any good?
jonnyandbex10 Aug 2012
@ ramos, ive not used the army painter stuff much-when i did use it i found the primers to be very waxy and a bit ao a problem to paintover As to the colour match im also unsure. Ive used gy paints for the yellow its over a black undercoat-starting with the old foundation yellow, darksun? two thin coats will add a nice base to work from then adding in some sunset yellow to create highlights
jonnyandbex19 Aug 2012
ive just finished painting all the man eaters, the three from titan forge alongside the gw three. will add some pics asap
redletters19 Aug 2012

jonnyandbex27 Aug 2012
the very sexy maneaters from gw, note a little conversion in the form of a gut plate swap. Ive not done any other work on these guys in the form of converting, kinda felt they were good out of the box
jonnyandbex27 Aug 2012
man eaters from titan forge. these guys will form the second rank, im going to push the boat out and get a movement tray for them all
jonnyandbex27 Aug 2012
so just a little re-cap, ive still to finish a butcher, fire belly and a tyrant. a couple of riders then 2 unit fillers and its job done
Davros27 Aug 2012
Lovely stuff !!!
warlordsteve27 Aug 2012
these guys look good....I like how your colour scheme has come out on the 2nd rank.
My Armies: Empire Ogres
jonnyandbex10 Sep 2012
im getting a little withdrawl from not painting any ogres up. i may treat myself to some mournfang next month-perhaps a unit of 10 will do niceley!
jonnyandbex09 Oct 2012
got me some new toys-well toy realy, its the tyrant from scibor, realy good model and a superb scenic base for him, seems a little taller than the gw one. going to get him cleaned up and do a little conversion work to his weapon and hes ready for a lick of paint
jonnyandbex15 Oct 2012
a quick weapon change and a huge shield from the lord of the rings troll.
jonnyandbex15 Oct 2012
ive also finished off one of the riders for the thunbdertusk, sadly the other ogre is complitley broken, anyone have a spare from the stonehorn set?
jonnyandbex26 Oct 2012
I can now formaly introduce the tyrant for this horde. Red Thumb Griffon Plucker. so far hes only got a couple of base coats and some wash on the metals
jonnyandbex26 Oct 2012
ive had these guys kicking around since the start of the army. in fact i think they are the first unit ive done. once they were finished and i had a few other units made i felt that they did not realy fit into the empire theme. Now in hindsight i quite like them so i figure they are a bit like flagelants so they can stay.
jonnyandbex26 Oct 2012
another of the ogres that did not fit into the unit
jonnyandbex02 Nov 2012
ive got the tyrant complited now, standing beside him is scibors butcher-another good model. To be fair its a lot better than gw version, and i picked it up on ebay for a tenner. ive taken off the body over his sgoulders anf done a little resculpting, added in a gut plate too
jonnyandbex02 Nov 2012
the same guys from the front. the butcher is ready for a few minor tweaks too
jonnyandbex02 Nov 2012
oh yes that came togethr perfectly, hes got a great pose, especialy with his off hand guarding the loot.
jonnyandbex02 Nov 2012
reverse of the butcher, as im typing this hes getting a chaos black undercoat ready for painting. going to name this guy the griffon roaster, no i think i will keep that name for the fire belly....mmm no name yet but am sure it will come to me during painting
jonnyandbex07 Nov 2012
so ive nearly got his base done, a nice solid base coat on the flesh and a little work on his sword.
jonnyandbex12 Nov 2012
most of the work is done on this guy now, just the chest and some highlights and a few details to go
jonnyandbex21 Nov 2012
thats the butcher done. mr griffon chewer
Gundehar23 Nov 2012
What a horrible horrible monster, tell him I hate him!
But on a serious note great stuff, the Butcher looks like he has been mutated by the Ruinous Powers more than a little bit.
jonnyandbex28 Nov 2012
ive been trying to finishthese guys for nearly 7 months, trying to find the parts i needed has been a real pain, thanks to anyone who donated there pistols. there is a fourth member of the unit-sadly i made a real mess of greenstuffing and decided to put the whole thing in the bin. so there is a vacancy for the position of leadbelcher available to make the unit four strong. I would like to make them more empire looking than they are now so i may add in a couple of handgunners to the unit.
jonnyandbex28 Nov 2012
jonny508 Aug 2013
Motley crew of riders and drivers and even a stunt double. sadly these guys may be grey for the near future.

Massive and impressive work you have undertaken - respect for following an alternative color scheme 110% through.
My only point of criticism would be to use washes or do more work for skin/cloth highlights to create more depth to each model. All the weapons got nice details of rust and other effects, but of course it is a lot more work to each model.
Keep it up : )

Wip, three of the four strong unit are now complited. The unit as a whole has been good fun building and painting. I now find that the army is coming to a close in the fact that ihave nearly everything i need for it. Still to do is a butcher, firebelly and a tyrant. Some sabertusks and a unit of halflings to use as gnoblars.

Awsome stuff! Lots of great conversions, Bragg looks SO GOOD.
Your painting is very crisp but I cant help but think every model would look a lot better with a good splash of Earthshade or a nice Armypainter dipp.
Keep up the good work.

The scrap launcher is now finished off, also the ogre has been done, now just the empire loader to do. This project has been a lot of fun-finding all the parts for it tho has taken me about six months, but theres just a few more brushstrokes to finish my most awesome iron blaster

Now as ive finished off the mournfang (pics to come) its time to start work on some more heros-ive gone for gw ones this time so should i enter the army into tourneys or painting comps it will be no problems. This guy i got from a FB site for £4 plus postage. This is how he arrived.

After trying out a few diffrent heads ive gone for this one, From cork floor tiles i built up a slightly higher base and added a bit of spare models onto it for a subtle conversion. Currently im looking to get hold of a bull banner for his off hand, Whitch one of the other members is sending me out. Right now hes on the dest with the skin painted up and most of the metal work started.

Red Thumb Griffon Plucker and his band of merry ogres have reached as far as the Moot. After not so fierce battles with the little folk they have persuaded a small unit to join them as they have ran out of gnoblars.

Haha! Great stuff!
Can I ask where you got your Hobbits Halfling models from? I was thinking of trying a Halfling warband in Mordheim (as part of a narrative campaign I want to run) and those models look very characterful. Do they all come with bows and staves, or did you convert them yourself?
Looking forward to seeing more

So whats next, theres no new kits come out recently sadly, no updates out soon. Ive allready got a realy nice scibour tyrant and butcher but they wont be gw legal and at some point i will be playing a game or two, the next logical ster is to get a new tyrant and a butcher, The ones i did have have gone wandering and i seriously dont think they are coming back. May even dip my toes in on the mantic ogres too. time for some research and ebaying i think
heres a link to my more random models and paint projects, my ogre army can be found by following the other gnoblog link.
jonny501 May 2014
Its been decided, i cant find any new kits to build from, so im going to do a fresh ogre army, these guys will be allied with the main force, but perhamps a smaller tribe thats been accepted to the larger tribe. so far all ive got is the idea that they will have plenty of armour on, gut plates on there sholders as extra armour, oh and i realy want a slave giant so to do something realy cool its going to be a gorgon from the beastman range. this could give me chance to do a beast themed force but im not too into that idea right now. possibly an ork styled force may work but thats just ideas im throwing aroun at the moment. im quite excited at the thought but nothing is too solid at the moment

After all, painting 100 night goblins is something you do in the morning just before you are off to work.
And I think you missed a 0 when you wrote 11 armies. The correct nr should be 110 armies I would think, based on your painting speed.
jonny513 May 2014
Ive got a couple of kits for the army, the ghorgon and a unit of dragon ogres. a good start im sure u will agree, but i want to get a bit of a theme going on. im a little stuck on this to be honest, so any feed back would be helpfull. a chaos alighned theme could work more specificaly beastmen, but i remain unconvinced. the only thoughts i have at the moment would be to do them vanila but go all out on the details.

What a way to start a new army. this model it one of the best ive seen in ages, hes a proxy slave giant. Im still no further foreward with a theme for this army, hopeful it will come soon
