Ogrefy this! (W.I.P.s of the now-Irongut unit)

original thread ↗

Ahoy, there, me lads and lasses!

I went through me bits box recently in the attempt to expand me ole Ogre Pirate Crew and discovered that I got 4 of them Space Apes called Karmans from the now defunct AT-43 game by Rackham:

Source: http://cf.mp-cdn.net/24/23/240ce8baf4ab1243102c7a6bf897.jpg

I got 'em cheap at me FLGS, so I grabbed a box of those and another one of (Red Blok Kolossus (which will be the basis for either Warmachine Jacks or Dwarf Steamgolems).

Sizewise, they 're comparable to 3rd ed, early 4th ed Ogres, but their arms are too long and thin. The Gorilla heads are slightly smaller than current 6th/8th plastic Ogre heads, so that 'd require some work. Worse than the paintjob is the fact that these lads are made of brittle plastic and thus a tad difficult t' convert, and the large jumpbacks that 're way too high tech.

Now I thought I might turn them into Ogres in diving suits complete with diving helmets and all such, but I 'm lookin fer ideas both fer
- how to proceed (apart from replacin' the thinnish arms with proper Ogres ones).
- what to use them for (that 's of course the bigger question).

To rephrase the question: What place does an unit of 4 Ogre Divers (no more than that possible, with 'em At-43 things being OOP) have in a Pirate army and how should I equip them?

You should google "Bioshock Big Daddy". That could give you some inspiration. Since big daddies can have both guns and melee weapons, you can use them as maneaters.

Think of it as a magic glove, like Michael Jackson use to wear, you could even model your character up grabbing at his crotch.

I'd say swap the heads for gnoblars and make the suits maybe look like soem chaos dwarf contraption and call em gnobby-suits!

Make them diving suits and call them pirate maneaters, as they have been underground. You could attempt to put a great weapon on one's back and call it a tyrant maybe...
Facing ogres is like facing an avalanche.

Here's my first go at the deep divers:

This is the first Diver I built from leftover Ogre pieces, but unfortunately, I deleted the first pic, so there's only the side view fer now:

This guy will become the Champion, hence the arkward pose with the helmet:

And the Champion, again, this time from behind.

Chuck Norris was the fourth wise man and gave Jesus his favorite gift, a beard. The other wise men were so hacked off, they got Chuck Norris removed from the bible. Mysteriously, they all later died of Roundhouse kick related injuries.
Ah..I'm still wishing for a gnoblar one with a fishbowl under his arm ;)

Looking good.

Shiver me timbers, there be someone 'round these shores what speaks the Pirate tongue. And thank thee fer the kind words, Master Spaceman!

Well, Komone, while I likes them Gnoblars like the next ma... ahem Ogre, I rather 'ave me ogres trade with me Dwarven Pirate crews than the toothy lads in ole Zharrr Naggrund, Rest assured a Gnoblar with a fishbowl isn't out of the question!

Oh, and I took pictures of the first trial Ogre again to dsiplay in all his glory 'ere:

Still needs a lot of greenstuff and details, unfortunately I ran out of Ogre bits at the moment, and I 'm yet unsure what to buy to make up fer that. There's also a mate of mine, on whose defunct collection I 'd interested in, alas, the guy 'can't easily access 'em at the moment.
Ruleswise, I 'm still unsure whether they should be the scouting Maneater type or mayhap even Yethis.

Very well, I didn't add much since the last time, but I 'm proud t' tell ye lot that I made some progress today. And I decided that they 'll be part of me unit of Ironguts, so that I will 'ave more Core troops at me disposal. And they don't fit with me current Maneater unit.

In the first picture, I added a classic Ogre for comparision.

The white stuff is basic craft modelling clay, easy and fast to work with, but a bit grainy when dry. Also, a bit difficult when it gets wet again.

And I 'm also working on a little fella that I 'll name Komone.

Took me 2 hours on tuesday to convert these buggers into the rough shape. They still need Greenstuff on a lot of gaps and to cover a lot of high tech bitz. Hope they find yer approval. Ogrish enough, I suppose, but not enough Bioshockish, eh?

Thanks, pictures will follow tomorrow, I managed to complete the greenstuffing on them today, plus 2 more models I didn't plan on, but would need for a match in April.
