The Dust Eaters Tribe

original thread ↗

The background story is to be found both on my profile as well as in the Tribe DataBaste (last entry right now).

The Tribe: Just to sum up, the tribe's leader is Mugall Desert Chef the Unsanitary who got tired of the useless Tyrant Sir Edem Silverscalp the Feathered and poisoned him before challenging his position as leader. Only Mugall knows this, and he is quite impressed with his own cleverness (which he attributes to a blessing from The Great Maw).

The tribe is composed of primarily stupid ogres, who believed in Sir Edem's lies about his success as a maneater in the Empire - in reality he was captured and forced to fight for his freedom. Before that he was rolled in tar and feathers. The Emperial soldiers called him "the Feathered" after that. He took the name home with him and said it was an honorary title granted for slaying a Hippogrif..

Living in the desert has made the tribe hardy and they can go longer than most ogres without eating, before turning on each other. They now hope Mugall's quest for meat will prove successful - their lack of skill and horrendous luck does not provide the best of odds..

Being a bunch of losers in the wasteland, the other ogre tribes called my tribe "the dust eaters". They of course thought it was a good thing implying recognition of the "achievement" of surviving in the desert-like environment.

Mugall Desert Chef the Unsanitary: The leader of the tribe, Mugall has a spark of intelligence once in a while. As child he ate the most unimaginable sickly stuff and was therefore given to the Butcher of his birth tribe. The Slaughtermaster thought he was too ugly and did not want him. Living in the shadow of the Slaughtermaster's (beautifully fat and skilled) apprentice, Mugall was one envious ogre. One night he snuck in and suffocated his hated rival in a mix of guts, grizzle and rotten fur, dragged him to the woods and consumed him with delight. Knowing that his deed would mean certain death, he fled into the wild.
There he lived as an outcast for years, experimenting with gut magic when finally a tribe came by, who didn't try to kill him and who needed a decent chef. That tribe happened to be the then-called Tribe of Sir Edem...

Gegmudd Splinterhed: Gegmudd is one stupid, but very fat and strong ogre. This is just what Mugall needs for his quest. So Gegmudd was given the weapons of Sir Edem (mostly to mock dead Sir Edem, but useful too) and a pole on which to hang Helmut Nebenheim for inspiration in battle.

Helmut Nebenheim: The "banner". This unlucky chap was given the task of guiding Sir Edem to the mountains when he had paid for his freedom by fighting the Empire campaign to end. Of course Sir Edem needed some solid proof of his endeavors and therefore abducted the poor sod as a souvenir - it was also a great way of taking some kind of revenge on the pesky Imperials. Since then Helmut has been a captive of the ogres'. When Sir Edem was killed by Mugall, Helmut was "promoted" from pet/souvenir to banner.
Sir Edem made him do tricks and tell stories from the Empire, but Mugall has no interest in stupid tales which doesn't have an ounce of meat in them. The tribe loves to hear him sing, dance and tell stories though,
which has probably saved his life.
Mugall thought that if they loved that thinling so much they wouldn't eat him already, he might as well be of some use in battle too, where he could serve as a reminder of the feast to come after a good victory. And so it went that Helmut must be wrapped in chains and tied to a banner every so often.

Autor's notes: This is my first WFB army, while I have a 40K Necron army. I've painted my fair share of models for many years, but I've never collected an army. I had a sudden inspiration and decided to paint an Ogre-model. I found the one I liked best and just loved painting it. After reading about OK, I thought it would be great to make an army of these fat gluttons.
The name is derived from the insult uttered by Bart Simpson "eat dust, dust eater!", which afaik is a variation of the saying which refers to the loser of a race, who must cough in the dust from the winner's wheels.
Fitting for an army of stupid ogres who will lose many battles over the next few months :)

The pictures show Mugall and Mugall next to his Mawtooth sporting the tribe logo..
I like the story, totally can picture a ogre turning his capture into a tale of triumph and the Idea of a butcher tired of his tyrant being useless taking matters into his own hands for the good of this tribe.

The model is well done and hope to see more shots of the tribesmen.
If it cant be eaten you haven't chewed hard enough

Thanks :) I will just be adding to the initial post as I make up more of the story and add units - I hope to have enough imagination to describe each additional unit's way into the tribe. Right now there are none though, as I have never collected and army of Ogres before (in a few days I will have some more models tho'). That's why I've decided to describe the tribe as a bunch of losers - my first battles will be a disaster, as I've never played WFB before (well a couple of times twelve years ago!).
The first units will be the ones Mugall "inherited" from Sir Edem, so not much to say about them. I imagine a unit of Bulls, a  unit of Iron Guts and a unit of Leadbelchers are what he has command over now - my bgstory saying it's a small tribe. That composition fits with the battalion box too, so I think it's a good place to start.
I may, however, win an Ebay auction for a Rhinox rider (forgeworld) which I have regrets about bidding on - if I win I will tie in the model in a funny way, portraying my stupid bid :P

Story updated with elaboration on characters (and the banner, who is in the making)
Helmut Nebenheim - The Battle Standard (The Bruiser BSB is still WIP).
It is made from the standard from an Orc sprue and the captive from the Thundertusk kit. I just cut the Orc hands off the pole and plunged a splinter from a match into the back of the skull for the hook. He is detachable and scratched easily until I gave him some varnish:

So now my Bruiser BSB Gegmudd Splinterhed is 99 % done (still some minor details here and there which need attention).
He will carry the banner on his back, but I need some green stuff to make the leather strips which holds it in place on his back before I attach it. I replaced the normal Tyrant head with the teethy SM/Butcher head because I like it better and because it makes him look dimmer witted, which he is. Maybe I will hang a look-out Gnoblar from his left hand. I also cut the top off his sword because it screened the battle standard when I held it up to check positions - and I also think it gives the sword too much length making it look a bit too exaggerated.

The first two ogres. I used them to try some things out.. The eyes were really difficult! I usually don't have that big problems with eyes.. Anyway I opted for a desert-y scheme as my tribe lives in the desert. It's not in line with Mugall (the Butcher), but I painted him before settling on making an army but it fits nicely with Gegmudd (Bruiser BSB).. It took about five hours assembly included, but I can cut that down with hopefully 1½ hours now that I know what I'm doing..

Oh, and my girlfriend joined me today painting one of my old Pegasus Knights. She has never painted before,  she said that now she actually understand why I like it so much  :>D

Next two up! Only took three hours this time, so I cut two off.. My plan is to make two models a day 'till I've finished. It won't be every day I can paint though.

Edit: You will notice that one has a dark gut plate while the other has white teeth on his and the two from yesterday are red. I will alternate between colors on the plates to give them some personalization.
So I've finished my first unit! Feels good... Wow it was hard work :)
Also finished my Bruiser BSB "Gegmudd Splinterhed". He's carrying poor Helmut Nebenheim as a trophy and reminder of the feast to come after victory - there Helmut will be forced to sing and dance to the Ogres' amusement... Better than to stew I guess!

Finished my four Leadbelchers this evening! They came along a little slower than I hoped due to.. well, life :)

I love that bruiser! The butcher head worked really well on that model.
Thank you :) With a little positioning it fits quite well without too much of a gab - I didn't even have to cut anything.. I think it gives the model a less "boss"-type of look which I wanted because he is only second-in-command while fitting with my background story as well.. Plus I just love that beasty head  :>D
My studies were really demanding lately, but now I have time off for the summer.. So I finally finished the army.. I have more pictures, but they will be uploaded later :)
