That's what I was afraid of. My intent was to push his attacks into 'autowound' territory, so that he DIDN'T get the HKB. (In the FAQ, it does say that if you have a 1+ to wound, you do autowound.)
The FAQ I'm reading says:
Q: Does a To Wound roll of a 1 always fail to Wound? (p42, 51)
A: No. Though it is very rare for a model to be able to Wound
on a 1+.
I only see they say that a roll of a 1 doesn't always fail, I do not see any mention of autowound.

Sorry to bring this old post up from the grave, but this question came up in a game over the weekend and we checked the latest faq (which is 1.6a now), and the question mentioned prior I could no longer find it in the FAQ. Did it get moved to an army faq? Or am I blind and looking at the wrong FAQ?

It seems that this question has been deleted or exempted from the most recent FAQ. Kinda ominous for us and for everyone in general. It is unclear whether or not the exemption is intentional but it is two FAQs that is has been absent now.
Interestingly enough though, in the newest Skaven FAQ, Queek is still allowed to get auto-wounds.
Either way I would discuss it with your opponent before the game to make absolutely sure there is not confusion. Technically speaking, Flaming Sword WILL NOT allow a unit to wound on a 1+ as of now...

If it's not in the FAQ any more I don't believe Flaming sword will make IG/cannons auto-wounds any more, because if it's not in the FAQ then a to-wound roll of 1 is always a failure.

First they would have to write somewhere that a to wound roll of a 1 is a failure?

Yeah, I don't think the rules say anywhere that a roll of 1 to wound is always a failure. They simply refer to the chart which indicates the roll needed. And like all rolls can be modified.
