The gunline

original thread ↗

Has anyone tried a gunline list?

I`m so impressed with my LBs now I`m thinking about running alot of them in my next 2k tournament + a deathfist lvl 4 and 2 ironblasters and bulls for core.

Any tips for this kind of list?
I like the idea of a ogre gunline, if you end up against someone who wants to be in combat then they will come to you, like any gunline you have 2-3 turns to blast the hell out of them, however the best bit is when they get to you they still have to deal with ogres, not just some humans/dwarves/elves.

On the other hand if you get drawn against a traditional gunline, they tend to rely on neutralizing your biggest threats before you get to combat with them, you can advance towards them like any other army would, but you will be able to keep a full rate of return fire back at them while doing so, and when you get to them, they will have taken a lot more casualties than they would expected to have taken from a normal army, so they will have much less punch in combat than the player would have expected against any other march into combat army, at which point he is human/dwarf/elf, you are ogre.  A fully mobile gunline is a massive advantage over a static one.

Keep a small unit of maneaters with pistols and sniper and either vanguard or poison around, then you can snipe enemy BSB's and Wizards.

A couple barebones firebellies help out as well casting fireballs each turn.

2x Fire belly 240
4x Leadbelcher 182 w bellower
4x Leadbelcher 182 w bellower
2x Ironblaster 340

Thats 944 points add in a BSB you SM lvl 4 and fill with core and youve got a great shooty army.
I have used 2 x 6 Leadbelchers in most of my games and would recommend you take 2x 10 Gnoblars with the trapper upgrade to help redirect troops stopping them getting to your Leadbelchers.

The Leadbelchers can also fire over the Gnoblars.

where can I find the rule to allow this? a page of brb? or is it in the ogre book?
Also a heavens slaughtermaster is really nice for an ogre gunline. The signature spell is a magic missile that can be upgraded to str 6. Harmonic convergence is also an awesome augmentation for leadbelchers. And if you are going up against another gunline, the comet spell is really nice.
I think the problem with an OK gunline is you can only take 2 ironblasters. I'm not sure LBs are going to pump out enough shots to make a dent in an enemy, and they take up sepcial points to boot.

You might be sucsessful with it, but I'd say our shooting overall is about 'meh.' That does not a gunline make.

It's a question of LoS. But, I believe you end up with a -2 modifier to hit since you're techincally shooting through a unit.
ogre gunline list is good but boring as all gunline list
the typical one: a heaven SM with Gut sickle in a unit of IG for couter-charge , max leadbleacher , 2 cannon and 1 thunder tusk , and the rest is chaf( 4 units of trapper ,3 units of sabertooth)
just comet comet comet , and if the enemy finally cross the trapper and sabertooth , there are some ogres waiting for meal.

Line of sight page 10 MRB.

ok then does it get -2 to hit then? Cuz i didnt see that shooting modifier....
I tried it when the book first came out for one game.  I was so disgusted with myself that I never ran the list again.  Its not that its super over powered, but its the kind of list that essentially just frustrates the hell out of anyone who plays it.  Maybe I might take it to Hard Boyz, but no way would I ever play this sort of list in a game where I had any intention of leaving the tournament without getting kneecapped.

Basic framework for the list was:
L4 Heavens with Gruts
L1 HHeart Suicide Bomber
buttloads of 10 man Gnobblar units and one large Bull/Gut unit to fil out core.
3 Sabers
2 Ironblasters
1 Thundertusk
Two Beltcher Units as large as you can feasably make them.
If you have any points left, pisoleaters or scouter maneaters.

Game Plan: Delay with 25 point Gnob cockblocking all game while Comet and Ironblasters collect the points.  Thundertusk is there to ensure combat goes your way late and as a suplemental stone thrower.  After game, realize you have no human Empathy and run for congress.

Only if the gnoblars are blocking the leadbelchers' view to the targets. If they are obscuring the view (from the perspective of the eyes of the models in the front rank of the firing unit,) to any part of the models in the target unit, they will cause the firing unit to suffer a -2 to hit penalty.

Gnoblars tend to be very short though, and leadbelchers are rather tall.. so if they are fairly close to the leadbelchers they are screening, they will not obscure the targets, but WILL obscure the view TO the leadbelchers FROM the targets.

Odd, where I play we mostly play at 3k and in my rulebook you can field up to 4 of the guns.

Very few people play at 3k.  But remember, if you do that, your opponent can take 6 cannons, or 6 stone thrower equivalents, etc.  4 steam tanks (shudder).

Still does not change that you can field four of them.

Use a gunline in a game against beastmen I have tried it many time and it actually works. You need two units of leadbelchers. A level 4 Great Maw. Two Scraplauncher or Two Ironblasters. A large unit of bulls with the accompany of a BSB and a thundertusk.
Ogres are the boulder rolling down at you. You can side step it, run away from it or blow it up before it gets to you... but you can never ignore it.
