ThudGuts at Shadows Over Albion Warhammer World Jan 2012

original thread ↗

Well I did take my fledgling Ogre army to the Shadows Over Albion Campaign last weekend and I will firstly say that it was (baring one Team) filled with non power gamer, up for a laugh, nice to chat (and drink) with fellow Warhammer enthusiasts.

Result 4 wins and 1 loss.  Overall our Team ended up mid table (total of only 9 wins from 16 matches), but I was mightily impressed with how the Ogres handled most of what was thrown at them.

Game 1 - 1000 points + 250 SoM (4 Fulcrums)
Enemy - Daemons
My list:
SM (L3 Maw)
Butcher (L2 Beasts), Dispel, Rockeye, Warrior Bane
6 x Bulls I/Fist, Crusher, Standard
4 x Ironguts, Gutlord, Standard, Gleaming Pennant
3 x Leadbelchers (in floating fortress)
2 x Sabretusk (individual)

Floating Fortress (SoM points)

His list:
Herald of Tzeentch (Shadow)
Masque of Slannesh
15 x Bloodletters
15 x Deamonettes
6 (or 5) x Flamers

Truthsayer (L3 Life - SoM points)

Turn 1 - He got first turn and declared no charges, moved the Deamonettes up slightly to cover one Fulcrum (with Truthsayer) from my IG's and put the Masque close to my Butcher’s Fulcrum.  Magic phase was not brilliant as he only had 11 dice and I had 9 for dispel, nothing cast made any difference, used the Masque to lower my Butchers LD by 1. Shooting was a different matter and he managed to get me down to 3 Bulls (but the passed Ld)!!

I declared Bulls into Flamers (out of range of the Bloodletters) and IG's into the Deamonettes, both failed, I march blocked the Deamonettes and the Bloodletters with the ST’s and “hovered” the fortress forwards.  Magic was better for me and I managed to get Trollguts on the IG’s and took a wound of the Truthsayer with Amber Spear and took 1 wound off the Masque with Bonecrusher.  Shooting…….the Floating fortress and Leadbelchers combo worked really well against a compact army. Shot the flame template and the stone attack into the Bloodletters and shot the Flamers with my LB’s. Killed a total of 5 Bloodletters and 1 Flamer (rolled really poorly with the LB’s).

Turn 2 – he declared (and got) the Flamers into the Bulls, Bloodletters and Deamonettes into their respective Sabretusks and the Masque into my Butcher. Magic was not a good phase for him, he cast Penumbral Pendulum causing a miscast and managed to get himself down to level 0 on the standard miscast and then move the Fulcrum into his own back corner with the SoM Miscast, he did manage to get 1 wound on the SM with the spell though. Flamers took down the Bulls and lined up on the SM for next turn. Bloodletters and Deamonettes made short work of the Sabretusks, Bloodletters reformed to face the Fortress and Deamonettes overran into the IG’s. Masque died against the Butcher with no wounds lost (like a 3+ Ward on Fulcrum).

I had limited movement but repositioned the Fortress so that it could get the Fulcrum in range. Very bare on the left Flank (SM Fulcrum) as just the FF and that can only move 10” a turn and I needed it to go Wizard (all be it a Level 0 one) hunting and clear off that Fulcrum. Not a brilliant magic phase, but got Trollguts off again, tried to get Hunters Moon off but failed. Shot the Fulcrum with the FF Flame and stone attack and managed 1 wound (his turn to be happy about a 3+ Ward) and got another 2 Bloodletters with LB’s. Ironguts did OK against the Deamonettes in CC losing 4 wounds and causing 7 back, 2 more went down to Daemon combat res.

Turn 3 – Bloodletters failed a charge by 1” on the LB’s in the Fortress. Magic phase was not brilliant for him, got one minor spell off (forget which one) and then he failed to cast a Cataclysm spell. Flamers shot at and caused two wounds on the SM. Deamonettes got the Ironguts down to just the Champ and Standard with 1 wound and I took them down to the Alluress, Standard, Musician and one R&F.

No movement from me. Magic appeared to be not spectacular but was actually a game winner. Knocked the Truthsayer off his Fulcrum with Magical Duel and he took another wound (leaving him with just one).  At the end of my Magic Phase the time limit for the game was hit so we just had to finish the turn.  We finished straight away as I was now in dominance and nothing he could do in my turn could get him back to even a draw.

Game 2 to follow.....
Ogre Achievements: 47/101
Shadows Over Albion Campaign: 4 wins 1 loss
