Griselda's Dimogres

original thread ↗

Starting in about a month, a group of gamers (myself included) will be running our own Blood in the Badlands campaign.  I am bringing some Ogres along to try to capture the Flying Fastness, which is sure to be full of edible delicacies not seen in millenia! My plan is to have the entire army painted by the end of the campaign, and after a months-long painting break, I am starting back up soon, this time with washes in hand ( I did not use washes before when painting some of my Ogres, so there may be two distinct looks to the army, we shall see).  One thing you will note is that my basing is straight snow flock with no frills.  I have not decided on a base theme I like yet, so I am doing basic bases while I'm painting my army, and may come back later and re-base the entire army.

Enough about painting!  Here is the basic background on my army:

In Blood in the Badlands, each army must have an overall General and two Lieutenants to who each will lead one of three armies.  Instead of running the same army for each, I decided to have distinct armies for each leader, and fluff to back up why each army is composed as it is.

The Dimogre Tribe has come to the Badlands in an attempt to raid Fozzrik's Flying Fastness for the unknowable delicacies inside, uneaten by Ogres for time unknowable.

The overall General of my forces will be Griselda, represented by the female Maneater.  She cannily (especially for an Ogre!) mated with the biggest and strongest of the tribe, then manipulated her way to be Tyrant.  At first, she ruled the tribe from the shadows, but now has overtly taken control, other Ogres afraid to try to usurp control due to her husband, Dimrogg, who remains the biggest, strongest (and dimmest) of the tribe bearing his name.  Her army will be the most balanced, with any units allowed, but mostly focusing on Ironguts and Mournfangs, with some shooting and some magic as support.

Her first Lieutenant is her brutish husband, Dimrogg (known as Rogg in his younger years, until there was a second Rogg born to the tribe, and his lack of intelligence led him to be called "the Dim Rogg" and it stuck).  He is considered to be back luck by his tribesmen, as he has let a female rule the roost, and considered to be out of favor by the Maw.  Due to this, he is constantly trying to gain the Maw's favor through victory.  None speak of these things to his face, as he will gladly beat and eat any who do so, but they do not willingly follow him into battle.  As such, his army will be full of beasts, and none but Hunters will follow him into battle, as they sense some sort of kinship in his propensity to be a loner.  Gnoblars will flock to him, as they can work around him without incurring his wrath, as he does not even understand any insults that they hurl his way, and he considers them to be his posse.

The second Lieutenant under Griselda is the greatest cook in the tribe, a Slaughtermaster known as The Gourmawnd.  Considered to be a culinary genius, he has discovered several new ways to cook all sorts of dishes, from Dwarf Upside-down Loaf to Greenskin Surprise. Made aware of its presence from a moment of clarity from the Great Maw itself, he is hoping to enter the Fastness and discover a larder full of new and exquisite materials to work with, not to mention there should be many armies with which to destroy ad eat any captives in new and exciting ways.  The army he will lead will be a magic- and shooting-heavy list, with several Butchers and shooting weapons of all kinds.

Once I get a camera working correctly, I plan to update the Gnoblog several times with works in progress and anything I finish.  A chunk of my army is finished already with the old (no washing and bright) painting style, including all of my Ironguts and Bulls, plus the Giant, some Gnobs, 3 Maneaters, 3 Yhetees, and 2 Leadbelchers, plus a Hunter and aTyrant.  As long as the painting styles are not too drastically different, I will not go back to repaint any of these until the end (if I do), and then may just wash them.

I hope everyone enjoys!
