the Black Dragon Oni

I hesitate to put this all down as im always fearful of changing my mind/losing steam, what have you.  My previous incarnation of ogres (oni of the east)  did not reach full fruition and will now be converted into this also eastern themed army.  The red ronin, toshiro (my tyrant) will be retired for now, although he may find use as an ironguts champion.  My previous yhettee, my red oni, will be used as firebellies.  The blue oni will remain as my giant/centrepiece.  Green oni (gorgers) retired to be replaced with foodogs (sabretusks) instead.

Fluffwise I was very close to using the bloodmaw tribe as that is the farthest east ogre tribe on record.  I just couldnt quite wrap my head around the name and how to represent that, and once I hit on the idea of adding dragonsmouths to my cannons I dropped it, and deciding that black dragons heads would stand out best against the bronzed flesh and white pants of my models so far, and finding perhaps the best new jade dragon pendant to use as a new bsb standard, the Black Dragon Oni were born.

Anwyays I have 1 month until the tournament for this army that I am dusting off.

-assemble ironblaster

-paint ironblaster, slaughtermaster, and ninjas
-dullcote all models but the red oni (firebelly) due to dipping shininess
-base all models
-switch out old bsb standard for new black dragon one
-rebase the foodogs (sabretusks)
-convert ironblaster/leadies to have dragonmouths
-print and apply decals to gutplates?

Ok an update, picked up some supplies for making water transfer decals, some dullcote for my dipped ogres, and some cement for gluing basing materials on.



And now a model update, worked on my ironblaster, using a metal rhinox I had in my collection that was lying around unused and bits from ebay.  Repositioned the metal plate lower down to act as armor for the rhinox, and added the extra horn armor lower down on the horns as well.  Cannon ended up angled higher than intended, oh well.



Not sure what to do with some of the decorative bits, any help there, trophy/lantern bits are fairly obvious, but those 2 right angle frame bits?



Trimmed up my tryant bits and one of the last ninja maneaters to prep for assembly...next, rip off the bull ahws for ironfists?

There's spots for those under the deck on either side of the cart. Right behind the big tusks. And the round thing is a cannon ball holder for the ogre crew. Goes over the shoulder and across to the opposite hip. I didn't use mine because by the time I figured out where it was supposed to go I had already glued his arms on.

Thanks, will look closer at those then.  I knew the cannanballsack was for the driver, but made the same mistake. :/

Guess what arrived in the mail today?





I looked a long time for somethig I could use for foodogs/temple lions!  I wanted somethign ethereal like and obviouslly eastern, but not too comical, and I think these fit the bill.  I doubt I will have time to do anything but rebase them before the tournament, good thing they have passable paint jobs!  I got 4 for bigger games and possible pack with a hunter at some point.

Well i got distracted by my gnoblars when I opened my box to retrive my bulls today.  Had a few buggers floating around unbased so I glued those down, then found the unit filler I had been working on.  Thought I would tack them into place seperately to see how it might look;

Then later of course I realized what I had to do with this little diorama...turn it into a gnoblar sumo ring!



Raised platform, sand, some greenstuff white markers....not too hard.  Putting the kimono and hat on the ref, hmmm that could be challenging....


Anyways that project will have to wait.  As much as I want this in a unit of 40+ gnoblar tarpit Im not painting those guys in time for feb 5th.  Perhaps after that....

So to work getting some ironfists ready for the bulls weaponswaps.  Whereapon I promptly stabbed my thumb with a brand new exacto blade...damn that thing is sharp, I nearly thought I would need stitches....still stings.  Thats all for tonight! 

Where are those food dog from?

Foo dogs, not food dogs haha!  They are dreamblade temple lion prepainted plastics, and I love them.  Debating a test paintjob on one with a stony grey look, as if they were animated, dunno....

Played a game today against a friends chaos, and liked what I saw!  Like the tag team of ironblaster/scraplauncher (latter replaced giant and freed up some points for more bulls and guts), like the new leadies, liked the magic, and beat up some marauders and knights!  Dont like chosen with 3+ward saves though....brrrr!
