Please help me with my army

original thread ↗

Hello my ogre friends! i'm new to ogres and warhammer. Me and my friend just started painting i choosed ogres and he choosed orcs and goblins. I have currently have 6 ogres 4 ironguts and 1 maneater and i'm not sure about my army, therefor i'm asking for help. I will mostly be playing aginst orcs & goblins. I want the army to be around 2000 points.

Thanks :)
Welcome to the Stronghold!

Firstly the models you have are a good base to start from.  I recommend giving your Ogres Ironfists for defence, with their low Int any defence you can get is great, allowing more of them to attack back.

Next step for you army should be characters, and more maneaters.  Both of these are fairly expensive so most players kit-bash standard plastic models to make their own (have a look around the forums for lots of examples).  I recommend two more maneaters as well as a butcher and/or bruiser.  A character is a must to be your army general, and eventually you'll want a Tyrant or Slaughtermaster to lead your force.

After this how you expand your army is really up to you, I recommend going with the models you like and learn how to use them, luckily nearly everything in the army book is useful.  At some point you'll want to build up your regular ogres and Irongut units, around 8 strong each seems to be a useful number.

I'm sure some others out here will have more tips, so good luck, and may the Maw bless your dice! :)
You have a good base. I'd recommend picking up the battalion box. It is a great buy. You get 6 Ogres, 6 Ironguts, and 4 Leadbelchers. You can also get a bunch of Gnoblars out of it as the battalion comes with gnoblars to put on each ogres base, instead get some 20mm bases and put the gnoblars on those instead and save some money and get units.

With the battalion box you can also kit bash together your own Maneaters instead of building some of the other models in it, you'll need 2 more of them to run a unit of them to go with the 1 you currently have. I'd also suggest making a Bruiser out of one of those battalion models as well, especially since there is not an official model for it. I suggest the Bruiser because he is the one who can carry your BSB, so basically make a really fancy looking banner that will be different from the rest of your armies.

Other stuff you can get as you see fit, Mournfangs would be next up imo :D
