I want to keep my Tyrant fairly cheap but effective. I'm thinking of giving him a GW, HA, and a gnoblar theifstone. But I'd also like a wyrdstone necklace (wish i could have both). So which would be better in your average battle? I'm thinking wyrdstone necklace for protection since it also protects against magic but I don't know... :?Any advice is appreciated, I just don't want special magical Ogre weapons, they are either too expensive for me or I just don't like em' (no thundermace, no siegebreaker, probably no tenderiser)
"Thinling weapons ain't much good to us. Too fiddly. And too big for the Gnoblars. So we let them little thieves give em' all back using one of their...wotsit wagons. Pointy end first."
Cool, a pet gnoblar! He can be named Squisqueek.

I am sure that a number of people will discuss the value of the Tenderiser, so I will leave that to them and answer your original question: thiefstone or wyrdstone?
I would most definitely go with the wyrdstone and a luck gnoblar. High toughness and lots of wounds are the only thing that can really protect an ogre character, and a 5+ rerollable ward save can make the world of difference if you catch an unlucky cannonball or are down to your last wound. Magic resistance, though useful, is probably most valuable on your butchers.

Wyrdstone out of the two, the Spangleshard is better!!! I would look at getting some sort of magic weapon for you Tyrant he's your moster killer and you might have to look for him to kill off etheral creatures to! Over all my idea of a good cheap Tyrant is Tenderizer & Wrydstone necklaces. Simple but works a better one is Tenderizer and Spangleshard necklace.
The Tenderizer is great for taking out charaters and monsters both! The Wyrdstoe to protect you a 5+ ward is good but like I said Spangleshard is better depending on who is attacking you, you can get up to a 3+ ward save!
One Thiefstone won't do to much it will give you one extra dice only! Stick with the Ward saves. Hope this helps and have fun.

Well, here's what I came up with since you don't want magic weapons :
Tyrant
-Cathayan Longsword: WS +1, Init, +1 and Armour Piercing... so vs opponents armour save, he's at -3.
-Heavy Armour
-Luck Gnoblar
-Greedy Fist
-Wyrdstone Necklace
-Maw Seeker: +1 to toughness so now T6 but must roll for stupidity every turn.
-Jade Lion: Reroll any psychology tests (including stupidity)

I have an article on
Ogre Tyrants, which includes fifteen sample builds.
From what you list, I would take one with great weapon, heavy armour, Kineater and two Thiefstones, which I believe is a very nice allround build.
And the Baby Ogre said: "Someone's been eating my Gnoblars too! And they've eaten them all up!"
My gnobbos are called Dutch, Dillon, Mac, Blain and Billy

This has been discussed soooooooooo many times before.
Search the forum, or, for a quick reference, look into the tactics encyclopedia
http://www.ogrestronghold.com/forum/index.php?topic=1360.0: lots of useful links there.
If look under Lord/heroes, under the names: Tyrant Build 1, 2, 3, you'll find lots of nice ideas.
cheers
