Ghunter's Snow Walkers

The Snow Walkers are a tribe of frozen Ogres, walking half naked in the eversnowing heights of the Mountain of Mourns. Thus, their skintone turned blue-ish.

So I'm finally starting a Gnoblog! Don't know where it will end and mostly when 

The main thing that kicked me in the butt for doing it is that I have this big box in my room for weeks now. You now, the one with all the shiny new models?
I want to improve my painting skills so I'll build and paint one model at a time, experimenting some techniques.

I'll post pictures of my already existing (read painted) Ogres later, but for now I have decided to start with a Stonehorn.

I built the body and the head but didn't attach the two together as the horns are quite impressive and mask part of the shoulders. I magnetized the saddle, so the Stonehorn is useable in SoM. I can also remove the riding Hunter if he get killed before his mount.

Yes, the main reason to begin with the Stonehorn is that I want to try a Hunter-ridden one. 

So far the two parts are undercoated white and I want to go with dark purple shadowing and beige/bleached bone fur (maybe browner than that, I'm still undecided). The idea is to get a frost feeling but still with a dark part (as opposed to my to-be-built Thundertusk who will be clearly blue/white).

I'm open to every color recipes and/or techniques to paint him!

One question to finish this post: I have a disturbing line running on my Stonehorn. It's not a mouldline it came from the assembly. Pieces did not align correctly maybe, or maybe I did not clean the parts enough... Any trick to make it diappear in the end?

You might be able to fix the beast with some liquid green stuff. I haven't tried it, though I've heard about alot of people using it with great success.

i used liquid greenstuff on one of mine, and simply forgot about it on the other.

Large part model seems to all have that kind of line, no matter the company. My arachnarok had the same issue with his belly.

I used liquid greenstuff on mine too. It did a pretty good job of covering it up.

Since my army is more desert themed, I have been painting my thundertusk like it's been brought out of the mountains into the warm air - it's dirty and sweaty. I am about 75% done with it. I may post a WIP pic later tonight.

Thanks for the feedback! A friend of mine told me the line will vanish with the paintjob, so I'm less worried now. Hope I'll be able to paint a little tonight.

I doubt that line will disappear. You could always try filling the gap with superglue and painting skull white over it to see if it worked. I would hate for you to spend a bunch of time painting the model to find that you have to go back and correct the gap (or live with the gap). Good luck!

couple, as in 7-8... very watery, otherwise you'll have to smooth things up afterward.

You must be using a odd brush if you need to apply 7-8 coats.

1-3 and for super smooth style, add some water afterwards.

Or just use normal green stuff/other putty… I haven't tried the liquid GS, but it seems very unnessesary. Crabcakes is right though, a few layers of paint is not gonna make the line dissapear.

By the way, blue ogres are really taking over! Was it Corai who started it with his Change eaters?

Corai blue Ogres were already there when I came in the Stronghold, maybe he was the first.

Lines have been filled. I already had very good experience with a kind of gluing paste. I used it to fill those ugly lines I had on the Stonehorn with a narrow pencil, already stiff from glue application, and a lot of patience.

I only had time to apply a diluted Lich Purple coat on the head so far, RL work has been hanging on me late this week. I'll try and wash it with brown/blue paint and see the results. Hope to get some pics soon!

The idea is to have a mini-Gutstar, including a magic-oriented SM (I mean, no Fencer's Blade nor Glittering Scales...) the Firebelly and the BSB on the second rank. This unit would be able to throw Fireballs at anything that could get in the way which is to big to be eaten by the tusks or sniped by the blaster.
There's two heavy units on flank support (Rhinox and Stonehorn) and enough chaff to pick up my own fights.

I know the list is quite odd, regarding the common choices made on the Stronghold, but I really want to test it (especially Rhinox rider).

WOOT, first painting yesterday!

I managed to wash my Stonehorn. Still need some highlights and I have to work on the "fleshy" parts of the body and mouth.

Fixed the head on the torso. I still have tons of things to do, but it looks better every day. Any advice on darkening the left shoulder plate? Seems too red, but I don't want it to be all brown.
