2500 points - new to ogres!

original thread ↗

Am really in need of any comments and advice on the following army list.:

Lords

Slaughtermaster - level 4, fencer's blades, glittering scales, ruby ring of ruin

Heroes

BSB Bruiser - heavy armour, crown of command, enchanted shield, luckstone, great weapon

Firebelly - dispel scroll, AHW, potion of speed

Core

10 Ogres - Ironfists, full command

8 Ironguts - Full command, standard of discipline

10 Gnoblars - trappers

Special

6 Leadbelchers - bellower

4 Mournfang Cav - Heavy Armour, Ironfists, Bellower, Standard, Dragonhide banner

1 Sabretusk

1 Sabretusk

Rare

1 Ironblaster

1 Ironblaster

The idea is that the BSB and firebelly go in the ogre unit to add some power. With the crown of command the unit should be quite hard to shift.

The slaughtermaster goes with the Ironguts to create a ld9 bubble and act as a hammer.

Not too sure on the equipment for the characters, would like to keep the crown of command as he will be able to deploy in the second rank.

Would like to get the hellheart in there, but I play against hyrda's and hell pits quite a lot, so the combination of a firebelly and potion of speed could be quite useful.

Any suggestions?

its a pretty standard list. the only thing "out of ordinary" is the leadbelchers.

I'd personally throw a Thundertusk in there, because i really like the model, and it really does a great job vs alot of army.
My Blog
Speaking of the models, the selection of models in your army list is just perfect for a competative ogre army.

Your character builds can be optimized. I would consider:

Slaughtermaster with fencers blades, greedy fist and dispel scroll
I find that ws10, t5 and 6+ ward is a reasonable defense for a caster who can heal himself. In addition 5 WS10 S5 attacks are just rough! Dispel scroll means than you can take hellheart on the firebelly, which you should.

Bruiser BSB with HA, Ironfist, Dragonhelm, Luckstone and Crown of Command
He has a 3+ as with a reroll and 6+ parry save, which means that even though he is the crown wearer he can go in the front rank in most combats and still be fine. If you insist on running him in the back rank, just give him the great weapon and crown and dont waste more points on equipment.

Firebelly with ahw and hellheart
Hellheart is worth it - trust me. Potion of speed can come in handy at times, but mostly if you are specifically running your firebelly with your ogres. I would just have him run around on his own and blow things up with the hellheart and breath attack. If you need him for his flaming weapons to deal with an abomination, have him join the ironguts - he will strike before them anyway with or without a potion of speed.

Thank you for your advice!

I have considered adding the Thundertusk, but I like the list too much I can't decide what to leave out. I may eventually replace the Leadbelchers with the Thundertusk, but I shall try without it first.

Auere: Your suggestions are most helpful, the problem I have found is that after making your suggested changes  I am now over 2500 points and I cant decide where to lose the points from! I really want to keep the trappers, but they seem the easiest way to lose 35+ points.

I would just cut an ogre. But it seems like you are going for the pretty looking sizes (6/9/12)  :)
