Tactical Magic's First Fantasy Tournament

original thread ↗

This Saturday the LGS will be having it's first Warhammer Fantasy tournament. So far there are 6 confirmed players (including me ) and 4 possibles. Armies are 2,000 points and scenarios will be decided on the day of the tournament.
It has sadly been months since I have actually played Fantasy as it's kind of taken a backburner to Warmachine and 40k. BUT NO MORE!!!
I was severely tempted to take Beastmen but, as I was hunting for my army book, my cat decided to pick that moment to go zooming by with a Gnoblar in her mouth. After rescuing the poor Gnoblar I decided to take it as a sign...
And so onwards with the Ogres! Also pretty awesome considering they are actually all painted .
I posted in the Army Lists section looking for possible tweaking suggestions but I'm fairly sure this is what i'll be taking.

Slaughtermaster
-Fencer's Blades(35)
Greedy Fist(40)
Glittering Scales(25)
-350

Sabretusk-21

Sabretusk-21

Ironblaster-170

Gorger-90

I am not expecting any hardcore lists so this should be fairly strong without going completely over the top. I am hoping to get some pics as well....yeah right .
Anyways, let me know what you think and the summaries will be coming soon!
2 problem ;
1st you're counting on a Ld8 army.
2nd 4 Ironguts are not gonna do much.

For that price, you could go for a scraplauncher (if you dont want 2 cannon), or a small unit of Mournfang. Both would be better choice imho (if you got the models that is)

I agree with this. At the very least, you could drop 2 leadbelchers for two more ironguts. I believe they are exactly the same price. I'm assuming your bsb is going with the guts, so having only 4 guts with a 50 point banner...

And a second suggestion... Go with a firebelly instead of the butcher. your list has no flaming attacks. Many armies don't like flaming attacks.

Removed the Gorger, Glittering Scales and Greedy Fist to add in 2 Ironguts+Standard of Discipline and Ironfist for the Bruiser.
Not really concerned about the regen. Not expecting to see much of it.
So there was seven people for the tourney but one bowed out to make it an even six. The T.O. decided on a round robin 3 round. I decided to go with Gut Magic on my SM and Heavens for my Butcher.
My first matchup was vs. High Elves.

Korhil
Lvl 2 Mage
20 White Lions w/Banner of Sorcery
20 Seaguard
2x18 Archers
2x10 Swordmasters
10 Silverhelms

For Spells I rolled up Toothcracker, Spinemarrow, Braingobbler and Bonecrusher. The Butcher decided to go with the Iceshard Blizzard.
High Elves got Curse of Arrow Attraction and Fury of Khaine.
The game was a Pitched Battle. There was a bunch of terrain but it really would not make a difference.
Pregame Thoughts
Talking to the guy I found out this would be his third game...ever...And the list was horrid! I actually felt really bad as there was  no way I could lose this lol. Oh well, onto the game.

Summary
I won the roll off and went first. My army all marched forwards except the Leadbelchers who strolled leisurely up. Not having much for offensive magic I decided to try a Braingobbler on the Seaguard who promptly failed their panic test and ran off the board. I followed this up with a misfire and explosion on my Ironblaster :(.
The game pretty much rolled downhill for the pointy pansies from there. I got another Braingobbler off on the Silverhelms who also booked off the table. White Lions were pulverized by  a combo charge of the Bulls and Ironguts. The Leadbelchers shot the archers to pieces.
By turn 4 there was not a pointy ear left standing.
Round 1 Massacre for me  :D
That seems just too easy, you should have let him win a combat at least to make him feel better. Or helped him with his lists.
My horde of beastmen against your ogre horde?

Ok but I get a horde of Leadbelchers.
@Snizzle
Oh i did. I charged a unit of Gnoblars into his Archers and was totally wiped. He also took a great deal of satisfaction at watching my Ironblaster explode.
This was pretty much the extent of his collection so far. During and after the battle both me and the T.O. wre giving him advice but there was really not much he could do against my army. The White Lions, his only real hard hitting unit, was just too small.
I advised him to invest in Pheonix Guard and Dragon Princes and get a heck of a lot more White Lions if he wanted to field them.

Round 2 vs Dwarfs.

Runelord
Thane BSB with Rune of Free March (?)
40 Longbeards w/GW
40 Quarrelers w/GW
2 Cannons
2 Organ Guns

The scenario was a Meeting Engagement. Dwarfs won first turn. For spells I kept Iceshard Blizzard for the Butcher and rolled Trollguts, Spinemarrow, Bullgorger and Toothcracker for the Slaughtermaster.

Pregame Thoughts
This could be rather brutal as his Runelord would have him on even footing for dispels and GW armed Dwarfs could do a number on my Ogres. I chose to put my BSB and Butcher together with the Bulls in Horde formation.

Summary
The Dwarfs used their banner to all march forwards. Shooting was kindof a bust as he rolled badly for bounce rolls and only managed to kill 2 Bulls with the Organ Guns.
I moved forwards and targetted an Organ Gun with the Leadbelchers, absolutely obliterating it. Ironblaster misfired...again...this time killing a Leadbelcher with the explosion. At least it killed something...
Longbeards declared a charge on the Bulls, and failed, coming to a stop 7" in front of them . Shooting killed off the Leadbelchers.
Bulls charged the Longbeards, rolling 11 for the charge, D3 Impact hits! One unit of Gnoblars charged a cannon, starting the most epic pillow fight ever...
Magic phase was crazy as I rolled 11 and channeled a dice. He then promptly failed all his dispel rolls . I wound up with Blizzard on the Longbeards and Trollguts, Bullgorger and Toothcracker on the Ogres.
Gnoblars went first, failing to cause a wound. He also failed and passed ld check.
The Ogres wiped out 11 on the charge with Impacts and then took out 13 more with attacks. In return they only took 4 wounds. The Longbeards still managed to hold.
The Dwarfs tried shooting up the Ironguts and took out 3. Gnoblar/Cannon combat was again a stellar example of epic whiffdom.
This time the Bulls managed to kill about 12 more Longbeards and only took 3 wounds. The Dwarfs broke and were run down.
Turn 3 the Ironguts charged the last Organ Gun. Bulls moved towards the Quarrelers. The other Gnoblars fired their little sharp stuff and actually killed 2 of them!
The other Gnoblars. not wanting to look more pansy then they appear, actually killed the Cannon. The Ironguts took a wound from the cannon crew and then destroyed it. they overran towards the Quarrelers.
The Quarrelers attempted a last ditch effort and shot up the Ironguts, killing all but the Slaughtermaster.
The victorious Gnoblars charged the other Cannon and the Bulls charged the Quarrelers.
Once I managed to get Blizzard and Bullgorger off he conceded.

Second Massacre!

Of course now I would have to face the player I had been dreading ever since I saw his list...
A Skavenplayer with a horde of Rat Ogres, Horde of Stormvermin, HPA and Queek....oh this is going to be bad...
Hate say it, but your list is 2026 points. The ogres cost 414, not 409 (assuming you don't run lookout gnoblar), and the bruiser with the dragonhide banner (assuming he has no lookout gnob either) costs 188 points.

Think of it as a magic glove, like Michael Jackson use to wear, you could even model your character up grabbing at his crotch.
-Zippy on the Greedy Fist
One unit of Gnoblars charged a cannon, starting the most epic pillow fight ever...

lol. That's an awesome line! Good job on 2 massacres, hope you have fun eating some rats!
33 Gnobs! Over 3 Packs of Trappers! Woot!
