As a total newbie to WHFG, and also to Ogres, I have a nerve posting a Gnoblog just yet...
I thought however that I would record all the faltering footsteps (do Ogre footsteps falter?) of my fledgling tribe, from first hatching to eventual world domination... (yeh, right!)
The background to the tribe is that they have lived in the high mountains since the Great Migration, surrounded by ice and snow, capturing Thundertusks and Mournfang (plural?), raiding the verdant lands of more civilised races when the weather allows or when hunger reaches unbearable proportions.
My tyrant is Yarig Icefist and all unit leaders will be named.
Like most people I've started with the ol' OK battalion box but I've added a couple of packs of Mournfang cavalry, a Tyrant, a Paymaster Maneater and an Imperial Maneater (all the resin figures are for conversion and will be part of my regular units).
Currently aiming for 1,000pt army as below, but will hopefully expand to around 3,000 pts as finances and time allow.
1,000pt Ogre Kingdom Tribe.
Tyrant, Heavy armour; Great weapon; Brawlerguts 242 pts
5 x Ironguts, Heavy armour; Great weapons; Standard bearer; Musician 235 pts
6 x Ogre Bulls, Hand weapon; Ironfists; Crusher; Standard bearer; Musician 222 pts
3 x Leadbelchers, Cannon; Thunderfist 139 pts
2 x Mournfang Cavalry, Heavy armour; Hand weapon; Ironfists; Crusher; Standard bearer 160 pts
Total = 998 pts
I realise this may appear a little strange, but bear in mind that it's a slimmed down version of my 1,250 pt Army list.
Photos of the first unit, Ironguts, in their undercoat, one of these will be my pledge in the November painting Challenge. My apologies for the lighting of the pics, can't seem to get it just right at the moment...

To be honest, I'm not a fan. You painted it well, and kitbashed nicely, but I don't like the way the mini feels (the head is just a bit too small). Although, inspired by this, a rat ogre head might work pretty well.
edit; having seen the mini from another angle in the Butcher's Cauldron, I don't think the head size is that bad. But that might just be a flattering angle in the Butcher's Cauldron.

If by RAW, you mean "Reg06's Audacious Whims", then you'd be right.

First off a Gnoblar for you consistent hard work and good ideas (the chains on the mournfang are a particularly good one)
Keep up the great work, your simple and subtle conversions are really great. The BSB looks completely different to the tyrant even though they are the same model
In regards to your sabertusk, I think it looks fine. Although as Reg06 mentioned the proportions do look a little wrong but hey you do have to remember we are playing a magical made up game full of fantastical creatures (refer to cockatrice)
WHACK, then eat, repeat....... simple.

I'll put up some fluff on the tribe soon to explain the Hunter's skin tone compared to the rest of the tribe.

Some more W-i-P...
Was trying out rusty weapon effect on the Tyrant.
Mournfang standard's horns were based on a horn flask I saw. I'll redo the horns on the mount.

So, the tribe is slowly gathering strength ready to do battle with the thinlings.
I think its now time to reveal some of the background to the Icebreaker Tribe...
Following the impact of the great meteor which revealed the Great Maw and the diaspora of the Ogre peoples the tribe which would become known as the Icebreakers found itself separated from the rest of the Ogre nation.
They wandered high into the towering fastness of the Mournfang Mountains, climbing ever higher until they were confronted with a huge frozen valley which blocked any exit with impenetrable cliffs of sheer ice on all sides except the narrow pass through which they had entered. While not exactly teeming with life, the valley held sufficient numbers of bison-like animals the feed the tribe for many years.
Over centuries the narrow entrance was snowed up and the tribe was isolated from the remainder of Ogre-kind. This allowed the tribe to develop their own identity and customs.
The skin tone of the tribe faded to a very light blue-grey-white, blending into their surroundings.
On reaching adolescence, each Ogre acquires a pet Gnobblar who acts as serf, battle companion and general gofer.
Many Ogres, whose greed exceeds their intelligence, hunt in the ice fields for Rhinox, Mournfang and Thundertusks to act as mounts and Sabretusks to help with hunting.
Those Ogres who showed a higher ability journeyed out into the wilds as Hunters, living off the occasional animal but usually reduced to eating the very ice itself... This resulted in these Ogres having bluer skins. Many of these Hunters use the claws, teeth or bones of slain prey as weapons, the chitinous blades of the formidable Ice-spiders are particularly sought after.
Sometimes these Hunters would venture even further afield and encounter other races, races which were eager to hire such resourceful characters, becoming known as Maneaters. (the longer they spend out of the wild-ice, the more they lose the blue tinge)
When Maneaters or Hunters return to the tribe they frequently challenge the Ice-Jarl (Tyrant) for dominance over the tribe.
Unlike most tribes, the Icebreakers have Shamans as their magic users, clad in animals skins and skulls. Firebellies are almost unknown, Shamans able to project ice weapons are much more common.
Occasionally the tribe manage to capture one of the elusive Ice Trolls who live deep in the crevasses within the Icewyrm Glacier. These brutes while not the most intelligent are immensely strong and show a strange loyalty to their captors. Often the tribe will train these creatures to carry and fire the last remaining Sky-Titan cannons, immense bronze guns which are capable of wreaking tremendous destruction on an enemy. The Trolls also make formidable close-combat fighters due to their size, speed and strength.
Current Ice-Jarl is Yarig Icefist Blackfinger the Cold-hearted, a reference to the frostbite he suffered while out as a Hunter...
The tribal icon is a grey double mountain, often found as a small tattoo, as well as on banners.
Horns and animal pelts feature strongly in the tribes mythology and symbols. Many of the tribal members chew a berry native to the high ice valleys which stains their lips a deep red.
Gnobblars take many forms, from the traditional Gobbo of other Ogre tribes to some closely resembling Night Goblins, often seen herding captured humies who they delight in tormenting.
Icebreaker tribe should be seen more frequently as the tribe have recently moved beyond their valley in significant numbers, raiding the verdant lands of more civilised races when the weather allows or when hunger reaches unbearable proportions.

Another couple of conversions in progress...
Also working on an alternative Thundertusk to make it look more Mammoth-like. Question - how the hell does the T/tusk eat? It can't get it's mouth anywhere near it's food for all those horns, so unless it's captive and fed by it's keeper...

I usually cring when I see LotR models in waryammer, but that iron blaster conversion is awesome! Question, why does the shaman have a standard? Seems like the model is getting a bit busy. Have you thought about giving him a more standard cleaver/knife? Other than that. The conversions look great. Looking forward to seeing more.
Hragged07 Jan 2012
Cool conversions, the giant Leadbelcher/Ironblaster will look great when painted up
What set is that large drum from?
Icecrusher07 Jan 2012
From the Mordor Troll Hragged, thinking of putting a pair of them on my Thundertusk (drums, not trolls)... Some very interesting bits in this kit which easily fit into our lads fluff!
A-Mo, its his shamanic staff, not a standard.
