Army composition competition: 1500 pts! the WINNERS!!!
Ok, time for another competition, now at 1500 pts!!!
The rules are the same as the other one (being changed deadline dates and, of course, pt values):
This is what you all have to do to enter the new competition: 1-post, by replying in this thread, your 1500 pts army list of Ogres (and not more than 1500 pts. Any army with more then 1500 pts will be deleted); 2-describe, briefly, what your tactic is going to be, by filling in the following fields: -where your characters are going to be placed; -what is the role of each unit/character; -what is your general tactic.
One post per person (and no edits of the posts: whoever edits his own post will be disqualified!!!) Posting will end October 9th).
When the competition is over, all members will PM me and tell the three armies they like the most and why. Voting will end October 23rd
The most voted army will be posted in a sticky thread named The best armies of the kingdom, and will be used as reference for all other members, along with the winners of the 2000 pt competition, and the to be, 1000 pts competition.
So, start creating your army, and be ready, cos the tactics competition is now officially open. Cheers
P.S. please, read the rules regarding posting the armies, and please find the time to fix the army, making it easy and simple to read (especially if you import it from armybuilder), before posting it in this thread.
P.P.S.I have extended the competition for another 2 weeks. The entrees are a lot, but I will have to take an important exam next week, so I won't have time to read PMs, calculate the points, post the winners... etc etc... Sorry for the delay... cheers

ok, I'll go first!
Heroes Bruiser, HA, GW, luck gnoblar, Fistfull of Laurels: 162p. Butcher, Bangstick: 155p.
The Bruiser will go with the 4 bulls to bolster their Ld and the Butcher with the IG's. These units will be deployed close to each other so both can benefit from the buff spells. They form the base of the army. The units of 3 bulls move foreward os soon as possible. If I manage to cast toothcracker on them so they become stubborn they pin the enemy down for some combined/flank charges. Otherwise they are a bait and flee unit. They will screen my more important units where possible. Gnoblar fighters are a support unit for sheer numbers, adding +4 CR where needed. The trappers scout ahead, and can be used to screen my 2 base units or to sharp stuff lone characters. They work well vs low T and low AS troops. The leadbelchers usually go on the flanks to engage flankers and fast cavalry. I use them as a fleeing unit too, so I can reload when they rally. The scraplauncer I use as a supporting close combat unit, charging him where needed, preferribly well armoured or high T troops. The launcher is nice, but I can't seem to hit much with that. The gorger will engage war machines or attack from the rear.
That's it in a nutshell!
"Who cares if we are outnumbered? It only means more tender thinling meat to fill our ever hungry stomaches..."
The bruiser and 2nd butcher go in the bull units. The siegebreaker/ skullmantle butcher with the ironguts. I deploy the leadbelchers so that they have a good line of sight and fire coverage of the flank with the most cavalry there. I allso deploy a unit of gnoblars closeby to act as meatshield/ sacrificial unit. The scraplauncher will be placed at the 12 inch line. It will move closer with the army, while firing at every possibility, preferrably dense groups of troops. The other gnoblars and 2nd butcher/ bulls unit anchor the other flank should this be neccesary. Otherwise they go in the center with the guts and other bulls. Once in charge range appropriate targets are picked and we get to the meat and potatoes... Hmmmm.... Meat.... The scraplauncher is sent in in tandem with either the bulls or guts. The trappers are used to march block preferably cavalry, but otherwise any part of the enemy army. The butchers keep the spells off me. They use braingobbler and bonecruncher on 1 dice a piece, just as bloodgruel to draw out dispell dice. Then they start casting toothcracker, bullgorger or trollguts as appropriate.
Pip the butcher's gnob! Fetch the pack gnob!

I´ll join to then ^^.
Skullkraka (Bruiser) Great weapon Heavy armour Wyrdstone Necklace Fistfull of Laurels 1xLuck-Gnoblar 182 Skullkraka joins the Platemashaz and gives the unit some serius impact power.
"Red" (Butcher) Bangstick Dispell scroll 2xTooth-Gnoblars 190 "Red" joins the Bullz of da Red Moon for his personal protection and ads a little punch to the unit if necesary.
"Green" (Butcher) Skullmantle 2xTooth-Gnoblars 160 Green joins the Steelgitz and makes it one scary unit causing fear at -1Ld and with a start of +2 to CR.
3 Bullz of da Red Moon joined by "Red" Additional handweapon Bellower 127 Giving "Red" some protection from shooting and uses most kinds of diversionary moves.Hits some not-very-strong unit.
4 Bullz of da Green Moon Additional handweapon Bellower 166 Diversionary unit.Hits some not-very-strong unit.
3 Steelgitz (Ironguts) joined by "Green" Bellower Standard Bearer Warbanner 199 Charges what it´s "guaranted" to break.Gives "Green" some protection.Really scary unit as described at "Green"
3 Platemashaz (Ironguts) joined by Skullkraka Bellower Standard Bearer Lookout-Gnoblar 179 Charges the scary things.Theese can take care of most things with Skullkraka.
Da Muvble` Fortrez (22 Gnoblars) 44 As the name says, theese Gnoblars take a table quarter as soon as posible, and then stay there.
Snikgitz Tiny Runtz (21 Gnoblars) 42 All the normal uses of a Gnoblar unit.taking table quarters, tarpitz and so on.
8 Sneaky Runtz (Gnoblar Trappers) 48 All the normal uses of Trappers.Mage- and Warmachine hunting, march blocker and so on.
1 Squigrida` (Rhinox Rider) Additional handweapon Bellower 163 One big scary tank. His role depends on the enemy. If i face BoC that has some ambushing units, then he´ll probably stay in the back and if i´m lucky some of the enemys will run straight out again from Terror.Otherwise he will probably move straight up a flank with the rest of the army.
1500pts Pd:6+4 Gnoblars and the Bangstick Dd:4+1 Scroll
The army moves straight ahead as any other OK army.Nothing really fancy. I have ditched the LB cause i don´t think just 2 is worth it.Yes,some people get scared of them, but not everyone. 2 LB aint that scary really. They will shoot about 14 shoots, hit with 7,wound with 5 (against T3).I don´t know if i want to pay 120pts for that (Bellower). They have other uses i know, but i think a unit of Ironguts will do a better job a theese low-points battles. Wish me Luck ^^.

I'm a little out of my depth here, but this is how I'd probably do it:
1 Bruiser heavy armour seigebreaker fistful of laurels
1 Butcher halfling cookbook dispel scroll
1 Butcher bangstick dispel scroll
4 Bulls additional hand weapon bellower
4 Bulls additional hand weapon bellower
2 Leadbelchers bellower
2 Leadbelchers bellower
8 Trappers
25 Gnoblars
25 Gnoblars
4 Ironguts standard bearer warbanner
bruiser and the cookbook butcher go in with the ironguts, the other butcher can either join a bulls unit, or go solo depending on the opposing forces.
character explanations:
bruiser
I think that a magical weapon can help in many situations and for a bruiser, the seigebreaker is about right, allowing him to take another item. That item has to be the laurels. Since LD8 ain't great, and a failed break test can spell doom, getting the re-roll is really handy.
butchers
bangstick draws dice - never a bad thing and will always earn its points back cookbook - a 3rd scroll would be overkill at 1500 and skullmantle isn't always of use, so cookbook as the next best butcher item goes in. 2 scrolls is about right against most armies, especially with 4 DD.
bull units
these units will smack most stuff around with 4 impact hits and 16 attacks. The bellowers can help in draws and to rally the unit just in case. I've gone to 4 rather than 3 bulls which is more customary to add weight to the flanks of the army.
guts
the hammer of the army - guts do the job really well and unless they can unlucky a unit like this can take down just about anything in its path. warbanner adds much-needed combat res too.
belchers
flank protection roll for the guts unit - will deploy one on each side of it to soften up anything coming their way. Generally I prefer untis of 3 that can still bull charge, but the flexibility of such a unit cannot be overlooked in games of this size.
gnoblars
never underestimate gnoblar blocks, they can work really well and almost ALWAYS make their points back for you. gathering table quarters, adding ranks or just stalling stuff - its all good.
trappers
one of the best units we have - used to march-block, tie up opponents units, screen missile fire, hassle war machines or lone mages (less so in 7th ed I know, but still). Exspect tehm to die, but don't be suprised if they take double or more points with them.
there you go!

Troops
General - Bruiser with Heavy Armor, Luck Gnob, Laurels and Siegebreaker - At this points level he should be a big enough monster to make people scared without dumping too much into him.
Mage - Butcher with a Bangstick and Dispel Scroll - He should give you enough magic support against most opponents to get 1-2 spells off a turn on average. I think under the new rules you might see people taking less mages. If your going up against an army that has no mages, drop the scroll for a cookbook.
Core -
6 Naked Bulls - Unit that will be joined by the Bruiser and probably the Butcher depending on what the opponent fields and how they field them.
3 Naked Bulls - Screens, support, small unit breakers
3 Naked Bulls - Screens, support, small unit breakers
4 Iron Guts - Warbanner and Standard Bearer (obviously) - They are around to break those pain in the butt units. Bruiser or Butcher could join them depending on target selection.
8 Gnoblar Trappers - Nothing special here, march block, annoy and bait.
25 Gnoblar Fighters - A big block to bait less intelligent opponents into thinking you have a static CR unit. These boys will more then likely not see combat but take a table quarter. Can support where needed.
Special
2 Leadbelchers - Flank protection, magnet to draw enemies to your large units
3 Yhetees - Magic weapons to hunt, high movement for outer support and march blocking
Rare
1 Gorger - I wanna take two of these guys, heck I wanna take 6 of em but I can't. If they show up on turn 3ish against most armies, they are gonna show up just in time to take out some vital piece of the opponents strategy.
Strats
Ok, so now we have a good list for taking out our opponents, how are we going to use it? Lets talk deployment. We have two freebie units that will pretty much go in the same place every time. On a 6 foot board, break your deployment zone into thirds. Take your two units of 3 naked bulls and place them near the front of your deployment zone (I like 1-2" back just to screw up shooting measurements for my opponent). They should go just inside the edge of the middle third, one on each side. Now we have our two heavy hitting units. They are going to go in the center someplace facing your big threats but covered from fire by those bull units. You do not want to put them in a situation where, if your opponent gets first turn, your bulls are going to run through them when they get shot to pieces. By now you should know what your opponent is formulating for thier battle plan. Where are they going? How are they going to get there. Drop your fighters, belchers and yhetees appropriately. You now have a solid center and either a flank attack, a flank denial or a good fient for a center rush.

Ogre Kingdoms 1500 pts.
Bruiser w/ great weapon, heavy armor, Luck-Gnoblar, Wyrdstone Necklace, Fistful of Laurels. 182 pts.
Butcher w/ Dispel Scroll. 155 pts.
Butcher w/ Dispel Scroll. 155 pts.
Character Total 492 pts.
Bulls (4) w/ Bellower. 150 pts.
Bulls (4) w/ Bellower. 150 pts.
Ironguts (4) w/ Bellower, Standard Bearer, Lookout Gnoblar. 227 pts.
Ironguts (4) w/ Bellower, Standard Bearer, Lookout Gnoblar. 227 pts.
Gnoblar Fighters (20) 40 pts.
Gnoblar Fighters (20) 40 pts.
Gnoblar Trappers ( 48 pts.
Core Total 882 pts.
Leadbelchers (2) w/ Bellower. 120 pts.
Special Total 120 pts.
Grand Total 1494 pts.
The Bruiser will be in one of the units of Ironguts, one of the Butchers will be placed in the other unit of Ironguts, and the other Butcher will be placed in one of the units of Bulls.
The Bulls will be used as kind of a screening/baiting/anti-flanker force. The Ironguts will be the main line-breakers of the army, of course. The Gnobbo's are there not so much to provide ranks and numbers, though if such a scenario would come up it would be exploited, but to act as bait for units that are frenzied, or get any opponent to charge rashly; for you see, the Gnoblars will not flee when charged. The Gnoblars will stand-and-shoot, or stand if they can not. This will cause an enemy unit to move further foward than if the Gnoblars fled, and possibly move even further if they over-run (I thank RasputinII for his article). Trappers get in the way of enemy units, go after warmachine crews, and act as the general annoyance that they are ment to be. The Leadbelchers will be on dedicated anti-flanker/skirmisher duty, and perform flank attacks if the situation arrises.
I'll be playing the basic flank attack. With the higher average movement rate of the core units in the ogre kingdoms army, this can be pulled off the same as with a more cavalry oriented force. Once the chosen flank of the enemy force has been crushed, my force will literally perform a 90 degree turn and roll-up the enemy's battle line. Basically I'll be continually using overwhelming force on isolated portions of my opponents army, limiting what they could bring to bear against my force and destroying the enemy force unit by unit.
I can't think of a whitty name for it.
Ogres do it with clubs.

Bruiser 163 Pts General; Luck Gnoblar; Great Weapon; Wyrdstone Necklace
Butcher 175 Pts Skull Mantle Dispel Scroll
25 Gnoblars 50 Pts
25 Gnoblars 50 Pts
3 Ogre Bulls 105 Pts
3 Ogre Bulls 105 Pts
3 Ogre Bulls 105 Pts
3 Ironguts 189 Pts Standard - War Banner, Look-out gnoblar
3 Ironguts 144 Pts
3 Yhetees 195 Pts
1 Scraplauncher 165 Pts
8 Gnoblar Trappers 48 Pts
Casting Pool: 4
Dispel Pool: 3
Total Army Cost: 1500
This army is pretty straight-forward, but I find all armies are at 1500 points. My Bruiser would go with the 3 ironguts with the warbanner, and the Butcher would most likely go with the other unit of Ironguts, but that could change depending on how the enemy army looks upon placement. Braingobbler and bonecruncher would be his spells of choice, as he has the skullmantle and most generals at 1500 points only have LD8. Against undead or other ItP armies, other buff spells would be used more frequently.
Bulls are naked and would thus only be used for bait/fleeing, or flank charges. I didn't feel the need to spend 30 points on musicians, because at these low points it's easy to keep the general nearby, but difficult to come up with 30 points . Ironguts are free to charge whenever the time is right - my main "hammer" units. Yhetees will lose me this competition, I'm sure, but I felt it necessary to include them as I would most definately enter a tournament with them in my army. The terrain is more than enough protection for them, and in small games it is easy for them to maneuver around the enemy and get in some S5 hits. Scraplauncher rides with the ironguts, as an offensive tool which also functions as a stone thrower, not the other way around. Gnoblars are there for the much-needed CR, and hopefully make it to the center of battle without chickening out, or arguing. Trappers are already in the fray, and have multiple uses including setting up crossfire, march-blocking, baiting, and using their ever-useful sharp stuff.

Ok, I'll partcipate too.
I'll use my usual deny flank tactic, with the main focal point(that will be the bulk of my army: the units that will have the role of killing all that comes before their path. They will be deployed in the far right or far left, having one flank protected by the limit of the table, and the other protected by the blocking focal point); the blocking focal point (that will be used as a protection for the main focal point. It might also be used to help out the main focal point, according to the needs), and the redirecting focal point (that will have the role of harassing the enemy, redirecting some attention from the other focal points. These units will also be needed as support to the other focal points, according to the needs).
Heroes:
Bruiser @ 173 Pts General; Luck Gnoblar; Great Weapon; Light Armour Talisman of Protection Fistful of Laurels
Maneaters x2: heavy armour, great weapon (general & battle standard in unit)
Scraplauncher
Leadbelchers x2: bellower
Ironguts x3: Banner (warbanner), bellower, lookout gnobo (butcher in unit).
Bulls x4: Banner, bellower, extra hand weapon.
Gnoblar Fighters x25
Trappers x8
I have a good solid army with a few units. Depending on who i'm facing, I might opt for a deny flank if my opponent has MSU's or fast cav, flying. My maneaters (gen+BSB) will be my center unit, giving most the 12 inch Ld 8 + reroll breaktests. They also have a magic resistance of 2 (thiefstones) against magic which should help. Next to it would be my 25 gnobo fighters using them as bait. Scraplauncher would be located next to the general for having an open line of sight and using the Ld of the general. Leadbelchers might be an option to use on the other side of the maneaters depending is there are any fastcavalry. Bulls will be located not far from the maneaters, setting them up to get a flank charge. Ironguts w/butcher, will also be a great unit to protect the maneaters flank. The trappers will be the annoyance (preventing force marching, chasing lone wizards and warmachines).

My suprise is as emense as I am. Having been tied-up with a rough semester of undergrad studying, I've not been keeping track of transpirings on this and other sites I am a member of. I graciously accept my prize gnoblar, and put him to work straight away, so that I may continue to crystalize my strategies and theories. Most importantly, I thank those who have voted for me.
