Danne's Gnoblog - The Blizzardpeak Tribe /w pics (Updated 30.4.12)

original thread ↗

I finally feel like I'm ready to upload a Gnoblog! I am really happy with how the fluffcame out, really happy.

Anyways, I will update the gnoblog in my own pace since I am a poor student :)

FLUFF!

Long ago, a great battle for the Challenge Stone took place on a mountain (today Blizzardpeak). The battle was between the brutish Bloodmaw tribe and the forces of Chaos.

The Bloodmaw tribe was lead by none else than Folg, Tyrant of the Bloodmaw. Folg's army was huge, yet uncivilized and dim, with the exception of a special division in his army - The Metalbrothers. This band of ogre warriors was tougher, stronger, smarter, cleaner and more disciplined than Folg's other troops. The metalbrothers fought, as their name suggests, as brothers in arms, and were lead by the infamous bruiser Dayne.

Folg had never liked Dayne, though being unable to banish Dayne from the tribe due to fear of the fierce Metalbrothers's loyalty to Dayne. Dayne was also a great leader in battle, which Folg knew. He just didn't like the fact that there was someone better than himself.

Folg had a plan in mind, though. He secretly had more than one reason to win this battle and claim the challenge stone in the name of the Bloodmaw - he wanted to get rid of Dayne, by any means neccesary.

On the day of battle, Folg commanded another bruiser to slay Dayne once the battle had started. The bruiser had no choice, and as commanded, he attacked Dayne from behind in the cover of the blizzard. The bruiser's charge failed miserably though as Dayne moved slightly to the side as a reaction to the bruiser's roar. Dayne easily slew the bruiser, wondering why the bruiser suddenly had turned on him.

When the battle was over and the Bloodmaw was victorious, rumors of the bruiser's death had gone around the entire army. Folg declared this as an act of treason, despite Dayne's assurance that it was in self-defense. Dayne was banished from the tribe, and chose not to stick up to Folg in the of getting eaten in the process. Still being loyal to Dayne, the metalbrothers chose to follow Dayne into exile.

Being aware of Folg's betrayal, Dayne and his warriors took shelter by the blizzardpeak, as the bloodmaw left the peak and never came back. Here, Dayne started to build up his band of brothers, renaming his division to The Blizzardpeak Tribe and claiming the position as Tyrant.

Since then, the tribe has been growing, though it has experienced a minor genetical change.
Living on the cold mountain of Blizzardpeak, the blizzardpeak ogres's skins has slowly changed color and has finally become as blue as ice. There are theories that the skin changed because of a mix of the cold and the prescence of the wicked Chaos, but none knows for sure. Dayne himself has been distorted, most likely from the curses of chaos.

Today, the Blizzardpeak tribe is stronger than ever, having realized that the cold mountain air has extended their lives and blessed them with the natural toughness living in a harsch environment gives you.
[/b]

As I said, I will update the blog in my own pace. Really looking forward to this!

Anyways, I will post my first picture of a finished blizzardpeak ogre this week.

Until then, cheers!

Danne

Think of it as a magic glove, like Michael Jackson use to wear, you could even model your character up grabbing at his crotch.

Right, my first ever modell! :) WiP though, stay tuned for whole unit.

Right, 1st unit of ogres complete.

Butcher/Slaughtermaster WiP: The thing on it's back is the banner skull from the ogre set, the chaos hand is from the cos arm bitz set, the cleaver is from the old orc boyz, ironguthead, beartrap as cheek cover.

Gonna start painting the butcher tomorrow :) Stay tuned

Nice Butcher conversion I very much like the antler horns coming over the butchers shoulders.  Looking forwards to seeing the painted version!

Update: Some things have happened since last update:

- Finished the Butcher
- Started working on some Ironguts
- Discovered a new way to paint metal. Previously, I've just simply basecoated boltgun, washed with bhadab and drybrushed with mithril silver. Now, I tried out:
1. Basecoat Adaptus Battlegrey
2. Heavy drybrush with Boltgun Metal
3. Wash with Bhadab Black
4. Light drybrush with mithril silver
I'm aware that it's not a major difference, but it actually looks alot more realistic. Tried out this method on a spare gutplate, and going to paint the upcoming Ironguts using it. If I like it, I'll repaint all my metal like this.

Pictures? Well, camera went ka-boom (probably had a misfire :P), so pictures will come later. When I get around to fix it, I'll show you the butcher for starters, and later on, the ironguts, including my lame attempt at a freehand banner.

The only real limit on the effectiveness of gnoblars is the owner's tolerance for painting so many of them.
Got my camera back... still same crappy junk, but hey, atleast it takes photos :D

Once again, can't manage to fix the lighting for when I take photos of modells... Any ideas?

As promised, the Butcher. Man, I think he needs a bath.

Big thanks to Byronic for reminding me how to use baking powder to make thicker/better snow, I think the difference is showing. Re-based the ogres with the same snow method, looks alot better!

When I get the time, I'll paint up the ironguts that have stood on my shelf for a looong time... Got an ironblaster and some mournfangs coming up, too! Stay Tuned!

Loving the skin tone!
Thanks people! I'm pretty happy with the skintone, even though the camera is really bad. In reality, the skin is less blue-ish and more snowy. I'm gonna try out kind of a different method of painting it though, right now the skin is primed + 4 coats of paint, I'll try out 5-6. Maybe it looks less like it's a paintjob coming directly from a daycare center :D

Anyways, I've been kind of slow, but pictures of the ironguts coming up soon. Ironblaster and mournfangs are now assembled, currently working on the MF bases using dinner table underlays in cork. We'll see how they turn out! When I've got these mid term exams done, I am good to go and miniatures will be painted in fast pace!

Have to say I'm really liking the skin colour on your ogres. They look really different from most Ogres I've seen and I'm sure the entire tribe painted to this standard will look brilliant and make fr a really nicely themed army. :D

Oh,and nice use of the bear trap on the butcher, might have to knick that when I get 'round to making mine! ;)

Cheers,
Mike.
Thanks guys :)

@Darkminion:
No, my first goal is to get this list ready:

1 Firebelly
7 Ironguts (got 3)
4 Mournfangs (got 2)
2 Sabertusks (ordered them)
1 Ironblasters (got it)

Aiming for a 1000 list with these minis. After that, I will start working on Dayne :)

I like the fur on the shoulder. The Butcher is an amazing conversion. Can't wait to see what you do with your Mournfang.

I usually have a hard time with the whole blue-ogres thingie, even if it often looks neat. You know, since someone drew the paralell to smurfs it´s kinda stuck like a song you can´t get out of your head.

BUT! I like yours thou, akin a bit more towards grey-ish white blue tone! I like you going for grey pants aswell, looks kind of realistic and puts focus on the skin. (Having your bases about the same grey puts that off a bit I´d say... making it a bit monotome perhaps?)

The butcher give me the creeps! Deformed hand with a good amount of dark, dreid up blood! Excellent stuff! Pointy horns sticking out the back is the way to go! The splatterpattern is also very good. Do you stipple it or do you flick it at the model??

Looking forward to seeing how you execute a firebelly in such a "cold" army as this :D

PS. There´s always time for computer games! Less sleep solves every problem!!!

Indeed, the paint choice for pants/base is intentional. I want to draw as much attention to the skin as possible. I'm afraid I can't do much with the camera, except improving the lighting. Gonna start taking my pictures in the daylight.

One thing though, what can I possibly do with the base? Remember, the ogres lives on blizzard peak, which is just mountain and snow. The pants's color is pretty logical when you think about it, as it provides camoflauge (damn, what a hard word to spell) in the mountains, kind of like the beige clothes the military use in desserts.

Oh, forgot to answer that one :) I just stippled it with a medium drubrysh, using more paint on the blood's impact centre, then using less and less paint as I venture away from the centre. For the splatter on the chest and what not, I just flicked at the model :) everything was done using red gore only. I want it to look dried.

The hand was basecoated with a mix between mordian blue and fenris grey, then drybrushed with a mix between fenris and adaptus battlegrey. Then I applied the blood by just stippling.

PS. There´s always time for computer games! Less sleep solves every problem!!!

Haha :D Unfortunatly it's not just games - studies, friends and exercise takes up most of the time (exercise 5 times/week)

Right, small update:

I haven't had much time for painting, so here are my somewhat late ironguts ^^

And yes, one of the models has brighter metal. Experimented a bit with coloring, realized I like the darker color.

Anyways, here are some projects I have allready started on:

I modelled my musician (this guy can't be a bellower, he has an instrument for god sak... I mean, for the maw's sake)

One last thing. I have ordered a sabertusk kit and a WHF basing kit from my local retailer, and when I went there yesterday to check if my stuff had arrived, the manager (who I know) told me they had 50% off on everything except paints and brushes. Sidenote: Turns out they are going to exand. They are mainly a toy store at the moment, but will expand to more of a hobby store, complete with a large warhammer section, including gaming tables and painting stations. Because of my hobby knowledge compared to the manager, I might have a good shot at a job there. Yay!

Anyways, I was like: "Huh? 50% off on GW stuff? WHAT?"

Let's just say Danne got happy in the pants.

This is what I ended up with:

(sidenote: the sabertusks and the basing kit hadn't arrived, but I'll get 50% off on those too)

"But Danne, why the daemon prince?" Well, those of you that have read alot of my posts might know what my plans are for the big fella ;) Yes, the wheels have started to spin. So to speak.

That's all for now, currently, I'm working on re-doing all metal on my regular ogres. I kinda fell in love with the new technique I used for the ironguts.

Danne

What local store is that, is it still 50 % off and do they have decent stock? King's Reverse isn't that far away really ...

Thank you, sir.

It's Kungsbacka Lek & Hobby, in the centre of Kungsbacka. Ogrewise they only have leadbelchers, gnoblars and a giant left, but they do have other stuff. They don't have an extreme amount of stuff left, but still ok. Might be worth to check it out? I think they had a relatively large stock of orcs atleast, didn't you collect those too? :)

If you collect even more armies, visiting the store as soon as possible would be a smart idea.

Another thing: The VC shipment hadn't arrived yet (that's where I'll get the sabers and the basing kit from), so I suspect there will be more GW products there. As they will have 50% off all the way until their expansion, you should be able to get 50% off on the new stuff, too. I might buy some crypt horrors to use as gorgers, assuming they don't get anything cooler (like a firebelly, a stonehorn, a battalion, minotaurs etc).

I think they have some fantasy and 40k codexes/rulebooks left too.

Hey, guys.

I know, it has been a long time since my last post (or even my last visit) here.

Reason of my absence is because of irl stuff. There has been a long period of hardship for a while now, and it will continue to get worse for about a month.

No worries people, I'm completely fine, I just want to explain why I haven't been here. Thing is I haven't been able to paint at all lately, haven't even had time to take care of myself. My life is very messy right now, but I'll be back by the end of may.

I hope to see you all again in a month!
