1000pts of Ogre Goodness

original thread ↗

Okay so I played in a 3 round 1000pt tourny on Saturday and thought I would post my list and my results.

Bruiser with Hvy Ar, Great Weapon, 2 x Gnobler Thiefstone

5 Ironguts, Bellower, Standard Bearer with the Runemaw (Bruiser went here)

4 Bulls with Ironfists

20 Gnoblar Fighters

8 Gnobler Trappers

2 Leadbelchers

2 Maneaters with Hvy Ar and Great Weapons

I had a major lose round 1 to a Skaven list with an Engineer, 2 Ratlin Guns and 5 Jezzils... I would have done much better but failed a Panic test on at the top of turn 2 with the Guts and then caused my Bulls and Gnoblar Fighters to panic also... so by the time I got to start fighting I was low on numbers and just didn't have the turns to engage his main line.

Game 2 was a Tzeentch Beastmen army that I massacred... got a charge in on a unit of Chaos Chosen warriors with the Ironguts and a flank charge with the Maneaters... killed them to the man. For the most part his magic was of no effect because he didn't want to target the Ironguts with spells. He did win a combat with the Gnoblar FIghters and got a lucky Rear Charge on the Bulls with a chariot that broke them on the bottom of turn 6.

Game 3 was a Tzeetch Deamon army from the Storm of Chaos book... His best bet was to take out the Bruiser and the Ironguts but once I redirected the spell to the Gnoblars he was not going to be able to thin me before I go to him. I had the Maneaters killl a Tzeetch Chariot with thier strengh 7 attacks! I would have killed him to the man but he had one Screamer that just wouldn't fail it's ward save.

I know many of you will question why I didn't use a Butcher and why I spent the points on 2 Maneaters. So here are my reasons:

No Butcher: At 1000pts I just don't see a Butcher doing any good for the points. And in atleast 2 of the 3 games I played I would have been shut down in the magic phase with my 4 casting dice to their 4 dispell dice.

Yes Maneaters: I used them at 500pts and they almost never let me down. 4 strengh 7 attacks each, Immune to Pysh and Stubburn is just way to nice. And I will stand by their usefulness.

The Trappers now never saw the end of a game and I'm not sure if they are worth it. I think that another until of 40 Fighter would have been better for the points.

The Bruiser with a Great Weapon is the only way to go... I think.
Yes, Ironguts do seem to fail panic tests very often... Bah.

Butchers are, though, discreet - that's one of their biggest advantages; with a few tricksy dice rolls, and a bit of luck, you can quickly get a spell through. Since you are limited to only using two Power dice per spell, start slow - cast a one-dice Bonecruncher on a vulnerable low-toughness unit of your opponent's (I found Bonecruncher is great for dealing with Wizards!), and if you get a high roll, your opponent might get unnerved and use two of his dispel dice. Next, you use another dice and cast either a buff on one of your friendly units, or Bloodgruel if you've lost a wound. He might let it go through, but if he doesn't, he's gonna use at least one dice, if not two. There, you now have 1 dice left to cast Braingobbler! That's another great advantage of the Butchers', they're very diverse.

This scenario, though, doesn't involve Dispel Scrolls, etc. - a very important point. Also, it's very possible for him to fail his Dispel attempts, or for you, if you're unlucky, to miscast.
Coming soon from Grokfol's Gnoblar Workteam:
