Bruiser-Spam - 2500 points

original thread ↗

So, as a complement to the discussion I had engineered over on The Feeding Grounds, I've decided to post a "Bruiser-Bus" list. It's very preliminary, but I think it has some promise:

Bruiser-Bus - 2500 points:

Core - 651 points:
2 x 10 Gnoblars, Trappers
12 Ironguts, Musician, Standard-Bearer, Standard of Discipline [Characters go in here]

Special - 599 points:
2 x 6 Leadbelchers, Musician
3 x Sabretusk

Rare - 340 points:
2 x Ironblaster

Heroes - 522 points:
Bruiser, BSB, Great Weapon, Heavy Armor, Talisman of Preservation
Bruiser, Armor of Destiny, Great Weapon
Bruiser, Armor of Silvered Steel, Great Weapon, Ironcurse Icon

Lords - 385 points:
Slaughtermaster, Fencer's Blades, Glittering Scales, Greedy Fist, L4 Wizard [Lore of the Great Maw]

Grand Total: 2497 points

So, the strategy here is pretty basic - we have a 4 x 4 block of Ogre death that hits hard, is supremely hard to kill (self-healing Lord with 5 Wounds, 2 guys with 4 Wounds and a 4+ Ward, and one guy has 4 Wounds and a 2+ armor save), and forces enemies to allocate attacks individually against them in close combat. To support it, we have plenty of shooting, thanks to 12 Leadbelcher guns and 2 actual Cannons. The Gnoblars and Sabretusks act as dummy drops, so I'll hopefully have plenty of time to decide where the block of Ogre death is hitting the table (I have 9 drops before I am forced to deploy the Ironguts).

So... thoughts?

For the sake of the extra points, you can get an extra Gnob in one of your troops to round it up to 2500. Other than that, I like the idea! I dunno if it'd be tournament worthy, but it still sounds like a fun list to try out lol... in fact, I may borrow the idea in the future if that isn't a problem :P
33 Gnobs! Over 3 Packs of Trappers! Woot!

It's an interesting idea. I've been thinking about trying to squeeze in the extra hero to take a front rank spot, but I can't seem to find the points with wanting a second caster of some description. You don't have a scroll, are you worried about that at all?

The answer to everything is sabretusks.  There is no problem that can't be solved at least in part with kitties.

I am, to be honest with you. I was thinking of stripping some of the gear on these guys in order to have a Butcher scroll caddy, though that unfortunately weakens the strategy somewhat, since that means that the Bruisers aren't quite as hard to kill.

Just strip the Greedy Fist from the SM and throw one on him. WS10 and -1 To Hit is enough protection, and it's not like his unit is lacking strength!

I would also be tempted to get the CoC in there. You know, just in case... ;)

Thats one hitty unit. I would probably run the enchanted shield on your BSB and an ironfist with a magic weapon on your silvered steel Bruiser. Tougness is key here, and the longer they survive the longer you can avoid casting trollguts, cast several smaller spells (like +1S) and keep healing your SM, while still putting down the hurt. I think toughness trumps S7+, especially given S6+ ironguts in the 2nd row.
