So I finally finished my first Ogre unit minus some snow on the back row but that will be remedied tonight as the way I do it takes 24 hours for it to dry. Tell me what you think of them or what I should add or any C&C you have.

Overall, I think they look pretty damn good. The only thing I would say is that it looks like perhaps you gave a purple or grey wash on the Ogre skin? Or perhaps it is pants reflecting off of the varnish? Something looks slightly off.
Also, I would do something to perhaps make the unit champion a little more evident. I am assuming your champion is the guy with the beard on the right. Maybe some nice warpaint or something like that would make him stand out a little bit from the bunch.
Good job.

Great! It's a really nice purple you have achieved! One more highlight on the skin would make it pop I think, and I would probably hit the models with some dullcoat/matt varnish to get rid of the shine.
It was a terrible, indescribable thing vaster than any subway traina shapeless congeries of protoplasmic bubbles, faintly self-luminous, and with myriads of temporary eyes forming and un-forming as pustules of greenish light all over the tunnel-filling front that bore down upon us, crushing the frantic penguins and slithering over the glistening floor that it and its kind had swept so evilly free of all litter. Yeah, I think a woad on the crusher would work well, I'm also thinking of some sort of tattoo on the guys like squad markings

I think war paints are a must for any and all ogre armies. It really makes them stand out, and you can have fun with interesting designs.
I would not encourage people to wash the skin of their ogres, but you pulled it off quite well.
I'd say an improvement would be to colour in the inside of their mouths, but I've been told that I pay to much attention to details.

The unit looks great! I also like Borgio the Besieger in the background (or is it him?) On the war paint/tattoo thing...not really necessary imo, they look fine now!

Ok I added a little woad around the crusher's eye and did a little weathering and got rid of most of that bluish-grey stuff on them. Overall I think it's pretty good for my first unit, I wanna do more to them but that'll have to wait till after the escalation game tomorrow. Anyways lemme know what ya think. BTW I tried to remedy the shininess but seems my spray is confused and I'll have to pick up another one Monday
Ianuchu29 Oct 2011
See? And already the crusher has much more character. Face-paints FTW!

Quick! that Chaos Knight is trying to sneak away! They look great! Im a huge fan of the purple, i think its a very striking color and works well in most armies. Cant wait to see more!

I'll be getting a Slaughter Master Monday and do him up he should be ready by Friday-ish hopefully plus I'm gonna do a little more the Ogre unit, not too fond of how the grass turned out so I'm gonna change that.
Ianuchu31 Oct 2011
Oh, they have grass! I hadn´t noticed.
I´ll be waiting to see that slaughtermaster.
Rayvn7005 Nov 2011
Here's the Slaughtermaster primed and and flesh done, pic is kinda dark as my batteries were dying. I'm not exactly sure how I want to paint him, lots of blood on the apron or splatters here and there, I'm open to ideas

You planning to update this as you paint your army? If so, you'd be better served by having one of us move it over to the gnoblog board.

If by RAW, you mean "Reg06's Audacious Whims", then you'd be right.

Yessir I do plan on doing that, I did try to contact a mod but com over heated and I lost the list of mods. I do apologize if I was in the wrong. I have looked at the gnoblog area and tried to start one but for some reason I was told I don't have permission to perform that action. I had thought my post count wasn't high enough so continued here. I'll rectify this though with help of moving it with your help

The unit looks good. They look like they may be a little too shiny, or it could be the picture. I really like your bases.

It's always good on my book to splatter butchers and slaughtermasters with blood. But don't over-do it, because I've seen some where the blood just makes the details obsolete, and others where there is simply too much blood to look good.
So do you know how to do blood splatter effects?
Rayvn7025 Nov 2011
Not much work on the SM lately, commissions got in the way, seems people want stuff done X-Mas, but I did get the skin and pants done and ordered a unit of lead beltchers to continue my growing army
