Dirtycrabcakes Deathmaw Gnoblog (new Death Slaughtermaster!!)
I like blue. I play Ultramarines, so I have lots o' blue paint. Deathmaw tribe seems quite appropriate. I started playing when the new book and models were released a couple of months ago. I am a slow painter, so I haven't gotten very far. I am getting close to finishing my 2nd and 3rd ogres, so those should be posted soon. Here is the first ogre I painted - my tyrant. He has no name, so you can call him Bob Bluepants the Terrible.
This was my first time trying to paint rust of any kind. I think it looks good on the morning star part of the weapon and not as good on the main killy part. It looks better in real life than in this pic though. The base needs touching up, but overall, I am pretty happy with him.

Here's a pic of my first bull. He still needs basing. I am not 100% happy with the blood on his chest - I still haven't figured out a good way to paint blood yet. He needs little bit of touch-up and highlighting too.
Here are some pics of my converted BSB using extra stonehorn bits. This is one of my first real kit-bashing attempts. I think he looks pretty decent. I'm not entirely happy with the back of the banner, but oh well. He is mostly painted right now. I will post pics once he is done.
My next post will likely be my first finished irongut.

My tyrant has the same pose/parts and blue pants too Funny coincidence. Same goes for my Bruiser BSB who also as same pose, only difference is the banner which is different.
I like your painting. A lot! Keep it up. Only on thing bothers me and that is the blood on his chest... It looks little slapped on. Otherwise very nice models
dirtycrabcakes28 Oct 2011
Yeah, I completely agree with the blood on the chest comment. I haven't figured out how to make that look right yet. I need to do some youtube research.

I use a mix of chestnut ink and a very small amount of red ink. Blood starts to turn brown as it drys.

I use a mix of chestnut ink and a very small amount of red ink.
Both of which have been out of production for years I still have a pot of chestnut ink too, but it is probably very hard to get hold of today.
Anyway, nice ogres! The off-yellow pants turned out great, and I like your colours overall. A last highlight (bleached bone?) on the skin will help bring it out. And the blood would maybe look better if it was darker, or like Salt gut said, more brown.
Keep it up!
It was a terrible, indescribable thing vaster than any subway traina shapeless congeries of protoplasmic bubbles, faintly self-luminous, and with myriads of temporary eyes forming and un-forming as pustules of greenish light all over the tunnel-filling front that bore down upon us, crushing the frantic penguins and slithering over the glistening floor that it and its kind had swept so evilly free of all litter. H.P. Lovecraft describing the shoggoth in At the mountains of madness

Thanks for the compliments and tips. I will try out blood suggestions (don't have any inks other than the old blue ink).

Wow, Shoggoth you make me feel old. I'm sure some online company produces a similar paint. I have a whole pot of blood ink mixed up and i use it all the time! I guess i should be more sparing with it, didn't know it would be so hard to replace.

Nice start...
For blood get tamiya Red Clear and some red, purple and black washes and it makse nice Gorey blood.

Yup, although neither issue really that noticable on the table top.
I tried to trim the arms as much as a could, but I was afraid that if I cut too much off, the arms wouldn't be usable.
I didn't really get much of chance to paint this weekend, so I don't have any updated pics yet.

I've got a few WIP photos to post. I tend to jump around with my painting a lot, so I find it a bit hard to get any model 100% complete in a short amount of time. Here is my first irongut (about 90% done), my first leadbelcher (about 50% done) and my BSB (about 75% done). I've been working on my rust techniques lately.
What's wrong with this picture?
And... my BSB. I really need to finish him. The damn gnoblar on his should is really annoying me. I can't figure out how I want to paint him.

If you want to get the most realistic looking blood model wise, you can use the clear red from tamiya. It dries up glossy and a bit clear almost like looking through a puddle. You can add a touch of black and it looks like dried clotted blood.. I will use that on my ogres to get the look. Here is an orc where I have used the tamiya clear red on the axe and the dwarf head.

I am getting a new battalion in and I will be making some maneater conversions that I am excited about. I will actually be trying to sculpt something with greenstuff. My plan is to make a unit of maneater gunslingers, modeled after Roland Deschain. Something like this:
I don't think I will be able to do a bandolier, unless there is some bits I could use, but I am planning on sculpting the hats and jackets. To look somewhat similar.
My unit champion will be the paymaster maneater - his jacket already works - just need to give him a hat.

If you made one with an extra long greenstuff poncho
You could make an additonal maneater and not have to use an Ogre body. Like with my sniper maneaters, I soaked strips of t-shirt in Elmer's Glue and it gave me a firm enough body to glue things to.
Very interesting idea... I may have to try that out.

Nice! The slaughtermaster is looking great! If you want an easy way to do blood heres how: 1:Layer the area with red gore. 2:Highlight the red area with Blood Red. 3:You can use Flesh wash, brown ink, or watered down snakebite leather and scorched brown in a 3(water):1(Sankebite):1(Scorched Brown) (Optional) One final highlight of blood red. (Optional) Use ardcoat to give the area an effect that looks like the blood was just spilled. Hope that helps!

After all, painting 100 night goblins is something you do in the morning just before you are off to work.
And I think you missed a 0 when you wrote 11 armies. The correct nr should be 110 armies I would think, based on your painting speed.

Yes, that's what I like about it. I was a little agrieved when I noticed that the generic ogre skin tone had changed from the old one, to the new man flesh one. I thought the old, grey-ish skin tone made the Ogres unique and defined them as a race. I am glad to see someone is still carrying it on Not to mention, the shading on your skin tone is very good

Ok! I got 2 completed maneater gunslingers for ya! A 3rd one is right around the corner too...
First up is my maneater champion - loosely based on Indiana Jones. I switched his flail with a whip and took the sword off his hip and replaced it with an ogre pistol.
2nd up is a regular gunslinger, based off the Roldand Deschain character from the Dark Tower series.
And a group shot...

Love those maneaters! Particularly like the 'Dark Tower' conversion. I'm not normally a fan of people's ogre to maneaters conversions as they never quite seem far enough from bulls to me but this is definitely an exception looks fantastic with great execution on the sculpting.
Also, I am also annoyed at the new fleshy ogres. Why? Why? Why did they do it? It was unique .... Oh well! At least it lives on in us

Most have probably already seen this from the other thread I started, but here's my Grut's-wielding Slaughtermaster of death - notice the pile of heads at (under) his feet? I title this miniature:
"Grut's Gone Wrong."

Absolutely fantastic conversion! I think you've executed Grut's Sickle superbly, and it's impossible to mistake. Enjoy your pet gnobbo

After all, painting 100 night goblins is something you do in the morning just before you are off to work.
And I think you missed a 0 when you wrote 11 armies. The correct nr should be 110 armies I would think, based on your painting speed.
