Drafts of my maneater cav models(count as mournfangs)

To reflect the mercenary nature of my tribe, I'll be converting up a storm.  I'm starting with a cavalry unit.  These fellows wanderlust has lead them to mount and ride all manner of beast and contraption. 

These photos are green-tacked variations of my first maneater cavalry model.  This professional killer travels in style on a corpse cart.  He was offered this self propelled snack wagon as payment for his services to the von carsteins.

The weapon hand will likely be modified to use the spear from the cart kit.  The whip from the kit will be used by my doomwheel mounted maneater to encourage his rats.  The weapon arm may change. Poses are hard to judge without weapon in hand. Either zombies or dire wolves will be added to pull it.  A few broken shields will also likely be added for cart armor and that wanderer feel.

I've pretty much decided to use a mournfang saddle, I think it looks good with the rest of the cart.  The trophy rack on the back of the saddle will likely be getting filled with bits from the cart sprue (flaming skulls, bell, bodies). 

Here are 4 different rider positions for my corpse cart cav.    I'm trying to pick the best option, what do you folks think?  Mind you that there will be a heavy amount of hobby knifing and green stuffing in the final project, so use your imaginations a bit.  Questions comments, concerns, and suggestions are encouraged.

I would definately go for the Mournfang saddle on the back of the cart. Looks best I think.

Yes, this guy and about 4-5 others will be mournfang counts as.  So far I've got a rhinox thunderlord, and a doomwheel kit to join him.  Later I'll add a carnifex, a steam tank, a stegadon, a warsphinx, in an ongoing project to consume my time and tournament gift certificates. 

Funny thing is I've avoided taking mournfangs all together, but that discussion is for another thread.

Whichever way you go, that will be seriously cool! I vote on the third from the top though, it looks the best in my opinion. When you have done those other mournfang that you speak of, you will have an awesome unit of maneater cavalry. Especially the warsphinx has huge potential. A carnifex might look out of place though, I'm sure you can make a great model, but it might be to alien. How about the high elf dragon?

I would definetaly go for the Mournfang saddle on the back of the cart but reversed as the ogre also . Then put the yoke/main spar at the other end. I think this would make it morelike a  chariot with a seated area at the front and not have the corpses in the way of the ogre's reach.

Thanks.  As for the carnifex, we'll see.  Its meant as a bit of tongue in cheek humor: "Where the hell has HE been?"  I'm definately doing a tyranid themed maneater on foot, weilding looted talons and carapace as sword/shield.  Hopefully a cav model on a big nasty alien can be done without being over the top corny.

I have just converted up a Warsphinx as a proxy Hunter riding a Stonehorn. The conversion worked very well as the Ogre stands up nicely in the back of the howdah and a gnoblar to stand in the front. The shoulder, head and chest pieces that you would use for a Necrosphinx are the perfect size to convert up a bull to ride it. I was surprised how good it actually turned out.

Good to know Loki, I'll probably try for a bareback or saddled look rather than using the sphinx howda.  I'm excited at the prospect of the necrosphynx bits fitting the ogre body. 

I've been making progress with my drafts.  Here is the fatty with his fondue fork atop his travelling buffet.  For now I think I'm sticking with the wolves, but I may try the zombies just to see.

The Corpes Cart conversion looks great. The only thing though is that it looks too long especially with the overhanging horns from the saddle. Can the dire wolves be moved closer to the cart?

I have been also considering a Jugger as a mount.

Looks REALY good but you should go for lots of gnoblars or a young rhinox pulling it.

That sounds pretty nice actually.  I'll see if I get any spare rhinoxes.  For now I'll keep the dogs and try to assemble it in a modular fashion so that it can be changed easily.

Now its really starting to get fun.  Heres the second of my cav models in its drafting stages.  This one rides atop a stolen doomwheel.  While earning an 'honest' wage as a brute for a minor clan scyre warlord, this fatty adopted the most noble of skaven traits: betrayal. 

I will add some gutplates and other bits later.  The warpstone bits will likely be used on leadbelchers and pistols for maneater infantry.  Now that I've got the general shape of this one, I can't wait to actually get down to glueing, cutting, and modding it.

Great job, but I have to say that I don't like the positioning of the ogre on the doomwheel. It reminds me of a wheelbarrow. How about moving him so he sits on top of it instead? Like the old-school doomwheel.

I really like the Doomwheel one, very characterful pose on the ogre too

The giant's hand on the rhinox rider is a bit conspicuous; I know he's bigger than his fellow ogres, but I think it will end up looking like a mutation nonetheless. That might be ok with you, of course!

Thanks for the suggestions and commentary.  The community interaction has really helped me to progress with the project.

I agree that the giants hand is a bit too big.  I'm probably going to replace it with a minotaur hand once I get the bits.  I've been comparing different options and the mino hands look appropriately sized.  If I don't replace it, then I'll use a few broken shields to hide his 'sausage fingers'.  It actually works pretty well.  With the shield panel over it, the brain paints a picture that makes more sense. 

For the record I didn't cut off the original, it was the maniac who sold it on ebay that did the chopping.

Yeah, the minotaur hand will work well, I think - they're bigger than ogre hands (the four knuckles across is about the width of an unhelmed ogre head) but will look about right on that monster.

Blades and a plate added.  Now it has the right feel.  can't wait to dissassemble, clean the mold lines, and glue it back up.  Some of the wheels/cogs are actually out of place here.  I'll have to start practicing greenstuff work.  Right now they are just held with gobs of a temporary sticky putty.

A suggestion for the wheel though. It might just be the angle of the pictures, but to me the standing platform seems a tad small. I'd try to enlarge it somehow, or maybe remove the rear tank, so you can put the ogre closer.
I imagine such a contraption wouldn't be the easiest place to maintain your balance

But you'v really inspired me on the maneater/mournfang bit. I think I might make myself a Khemrian ogre in a chariot. Unsure if it should be pulled by the skeleton horses, sabretusks or a rhinox though. Any opinions?

Thanks spriten,  I agree that the platform is a bit small.  As you've suggested, I may hack off the tank.  However, I also feel that the look is within the creative wiggleroom of scrap-tech.  We'll see I suppose.

As for your khermian chariot, those are all fine options.  From those models, I'd say tusks or rhinox as the skeletal horse models are lousy(IMO).  If I were personally assembling the piece, I would use either a sepulchral stalker or a tomb scorpion as I like the grandeur, glitz, and status that such a beast would bring an ogre.    However, it really depends on how you want to say that he got the chariot.  Whatever you do, just make up a little story to go along.  If its the skeletal horses he was honored by tomb prince.  If its sabretusks, maybe he stole it and walloped some tusks into pulling it after he carried it home.  Stalker?  maybe he just lures it around by the magic dripping from the femur of a defeated lich priest.

Heh, there's indeed few limitations to scrap-tech. One of my doomwheels is based on the landspeeder chassis 

I didn't even consider the scorpion or stalker!   Definately going to try and get hold of a tomb scorpion, if I can get fit both it and the chariot onto the base. I've never seen the model in real life, but I really hope it fits.
