[2500] Ogre All Comers

original thread ↗

I like having lots of ogres whilst still having a solid ranged aspect to the army in the form of magic/shooting that can advance with my army and help in the melee. Setups and placement are shown in the list, and any comments are appreciated.

Also a few tit-bits for my choices. I think that having keeping the firebellies at lvl 1 won't really hurt my magic phase as I will only have an average of ~7-8 power dice per phase, and I want most of that going to gut magic. I plan on almost always defaulting to fireball so I can snipe annoying fast cav, flyers and such, leaving my ironblasters to shoot the bigger, tougher targets. What do you think about having the firebellies at lvl 1?

Have fun and live well.
I like this list alot, very similar to lists that I run.  So I think there are only a couple tweaks/trade offs I'd suggest.
I'd drop the trapper upgrades and take another sabretusk and use the 29 points towards ironguts.  Another drop + redirector, and beef up the ironguts more.

I'd also replace one of the firebellies with a butcher - while I like the breath weapon, they are really best against hordes of T3, and your leadbelchers will already handle these units well along with the ogres.

The butcher saves you 20 points, and more importantly frees up other lores on your slaughtermaster.  With your list I would suggest a more ranged oriented lore like Heavens; you still get some nice buffs and debuffs.  I think LotGM is really better with a charging, mashing, horde of tightly packed guys having to survive multiple rounds of combat.  With your list, you'll be backing up, redirecting and speedbumping, and removing models with shooting and magic before going in for the kill.

Oh and I like a lvl1 firebelly and lvl 1 butcher :)

Also you could consider dropping one of the Firebellies. To replace his fireball spell you can add the 25 point Ruby Ring.  You will still loose the breath weapon and the character but you will then have 120 more points to play with.  You would have to either drop the Hellheart or somehow fit it in on your SM.  120 points you could pump up some of your existing units or find a few more points and add in a Scraplauncher, a unit of Mournfang or Yhetees. If you dropped the Hellheart then you would have 50 more points to play with.
