New Character: Spleench the Everfree, King of Gnoblars

Spleench the Everfree, King of Gnoblars - Points - 180
Lord Choice
M4, WS3, BS3, S3, T3, W2, I3, A2, LD8

Equipment: Buggerblade, Scrap shield, sharp stuff, light armor
Special Rules: We Matter!, King of Slaves, Hordes Unending

Spleench was born and raised on the edge of Gnoblar territory, in a remote nest unknown by non-gnoblars. However, from his very beginnings, it was obvious that he was bound for greater things in life (which, to a gnoblar, usually meant not being eaten in the first month of life). Spleench had developed intellectually far beyond his peers, much to the amazement of even his tribes' leaders and shamans; even during his rite of passage, he was able to fell a feral boar with debris found on the forest floor.  However, as he was dragging his quarry back to his tribe, luck had failed him and he was caught by Horzag Plentigut, a Maneater who had just finished a contract with the Empire.  Plentigut took his newfound quarry to the nearest tribe, and traded him for a slab of undefined meat for that evening's meal.

Spleench then became the pet gnoblar of the tribe's tyrant, who would beat Spleench for personal amusement. Amazingly, however, Spleench's resilience and stubborn qualities led him to stand up after each swat of the tyrant's fist. Not used to this unusual act of defiance, the tyrant got angry, and reached for Spleench to eat him. The gnoblar, however, had prepared for this, and unsheathed a dagger hewned from the bones of the tyrant's last meal, and impaled the tyrant's throat, piercing his brain and killing him outright. Using the bloody remains of the tyrant, Spleench took the bone, and fashioned it into the likeness of a miniature sword, permanently stained red and gray with the tyrant's entrails.  Spleench then freed the other gnoblars in the night, and escaped into the wilderness. Seeing the ways that gnoblars were treated brought him to great fits of anger, and so he began to train and instruct gnoblars with what little knowledge he ascertained from Plentigut and the fallen tyrant.

News of this event spread, and as that particular tribe was brought to shame and defeated by a neighboring tribe, the idea that a gnoblar was trying to rally its kind became a rather funny idea. As such, the story ended there for most Ogres. However, Spleench still continues to lead his brethren to battle, fighting alongside Ogres in attempts to show the worth of gnoblars.  His ultimate goal is to eventually free all gnoblars from the Ogres' grasp, and lead them into a new era of heightened gnoblar strength and cunning.

---

Equipment: Buggerblade - The weapon forged from the bloody remains of his captive tyrant and the bone piece with which Spleench killed that tyrant, the Buggerblade is known in gnoblar kind as a sort of Excalibur-like weapon of legend, granting unknown fierceness and power to its wielder.

Buggerblade: +1Str, Epic Killing Blow, ASF

Epic Killing Blow: Similar to Heroic Killing Blow, but can only affect Monstrous Infantry sized models and smaller. Anything larger (Monsters, chariots, etc.) will be unaffected.

---

We Matter!: Spleench's presence amongst his kind stirs up even the most simple-minded gnoblars to feats of greatness. Any Gnoblar unit with Spleench (Spleench included) gains Hatred and +1A to each model's profile.

King of Slaves: Being the highest amongst the lowest, Spleench has been able to demand respect from most walks of life (even the occasional ogre will listen to him!). Spleench gives an Inspiring Presence of 6" at all times that only works for Gnoblar units or Gnoblar Scraplaunchers. However, he cannot be the general, as most ogres will tend to overlook him finding a Tyrant or Slaughtermaster to lead.

Hordes Unending: As word spreads of Spleench's presence on the battlefield, gnoblars from around the region will come out of various camps and holed-up trenches to join their king to battle.  At the beginning of each turn after the 1st, one troop of d3x10 Gnoblars will enter the battlefield from a random edge and are deployed as reinforcements. Gnoblar units coming into the game this way will have no command or trappers.

To choose the table edge, roll a d6 and follow the chart:
1. Opponents' choice
2. Your table edge
3-4. The side table edge (either flank)
5. Your opponent's table edge
6. Your choice
If there is no available place to put the unit, then it doesn't come into play, as the gnoblars won't bother to fight if there's no room for them!

EDIT: Changed point value, updated Buggerblade, updated Hordes Unending rule and King of Slaves rule
24 Gnobs! Wow, 2 sets, crazy!
Toothy, Workie, Sir Reginald, and Busty (for the bus explanation)!

43/101 Achievements earned! Woo! Got some of the tricky ones!

New book WLD: 17/8/2 ... A good quick game to get me re-invigorated, glad it was a win either way lol

Hordes Unending is a little too much. D6 units of between 10 and 30 Gnoblars, each turn!

Thats a potential 900 free points, for both you and your opponent.

if I was facing this, I would have a unit of Cavelry or 2 just run around and harvest Gnoblars while everyone else focused on surviving till I won the game.

Change it to a single unit of D3X10 gnoblars and it will be much better.
Current win streak: 10

Things Fluffy,my Stonehorn, has flattened: Ancient Stegadon, Unit of 5 Chariots with Tomb king, Chaos Lord, Herald of Khorne on Jugger,

Changed it. I was aiming for the sense of tons of little dudes flooding the field, but I hadn't factored in the points advantage (I wanted some, but 900? Didn't think of it lol). but, if you get 30 gnobs for 5 turns, that's still 375 points in Spleench's favor.

I would change the last rule to roll a d6 each turn after the first. On a 2+ you get an unit. On a 6, you get a Trapper unit. Just to add more randomness.
Also due to these extra units, I would at least double his point cost, if not make him cost more. Free points is a pretty big deal.
Ogre achievements: 7/101
I doubled my point guess and added 10, because free points are a big deal.

I'll also consider the d6 "ambush" check (as a rough comparable term); that's a good idea, as well.

Spleench is the Spartacus of gnoblarkind. I love him!

That Killing Blow wouldn't do anything against ogres, though. I figured since he one shot a tyrant, you could say that the Killing Blow also works on Monstrous Infantry. Simply giving him Heroic Killing Blow might be a bit much, though.

Also, is the Scrap Shield an enchanted shield, or just a "shield made of scrap"?
The Ogre does what ogres can deeds quite impossible for Man,
But one prize is beyond his reach: the Ogre cannot master Speech.
About a subjugated plain among its desperate and slain,
The Ogre stalks with hands on hips while drivel gushes from his lips.

And who decides where the gnoblar hordes enter in the edge?
Facing ogres is like facing an avalanche.

I would say 200 pts. I think also.

First off, I like your idea of a modified Killing Blow. Maybe Epic Killing Blow or something of that sort :P only affects up to Monstrous Infantry and anything smaller (cavalry included).

As for this, it's just a shield made of scrap, to give the +1armor save and the parry save.

And who decides where the gnoblar hordes enter in the edge?

The dice would. Now, I'll add it into the rules, thanks for pointing that out. Check the original post for the edits (soon after this post is, er, posted :P ).

May I make a suggestion to your King of Slaves rule?

I think it should only function for gnoblars. I mean as awesome as Spleench is, to an ogre he's still just a gnoblar. I wouldn't think most oges would be too keen on taking orders from a potential snack (albiet a tough one to eat)

What I meant is where on the side do the gnoblars come im?
Facing ogres is like facing an avalanche.

Where on the side? Well, you pick any spot along the table edge as per the die roll. Isn't that how it works for ambushers? Or am I misunderstanding your question?

Ok. They are ambushers. But then, your opponent is only profiting very little for points. I would say something like the dice roll, and then roll off as to who chooses where they enter on the side, because then, most of the time, your opponent might not be profiting too much... Just a thought.

Also, for the hordes unending, gnoblars might not be prepared for battle, but they might have grabbed or had one of the things, like a groinbiter, musician, standard bearer, or trappers. I would consider having it being 10 gnoblars come in and roll on something like this table:

1: Groinbiter

2: Musician

3: +10 gnoblars

4: Standard Bearer

5: +20 gnoblars

6: Trappers

Also, perhaps Spleench should have something like Golfang, Spleench's Gnoblars. At the beginning of the turn, you can roll a D6. On a 4+, they come in at a table edge of your choice. They can be a unit of 30 gnoblars with FC and Trappers, and if Spleench joins them, they are stubborn, (maybe unbreakable?). No other gnoblars can enter on that turn.

Just some suggestions.

Perhaps any unit of gnoblars spleench is in can be stubborn.

maybe I've lost my mind (very possible) but wasnt there a gnoblar character on here at one point carried on a shield and a how to make the character? Like only a week or two ago I thought. I thought it was this character but maybe not. *rubs head* so have I lost it or am I just not finding the thread I'm thinking of?

I think that was a conversion that someone made based off the Dwarf lord model (not sure which one specifically). The original model had a head Dwarf being carried by two other dwarves on a shield, so the conversion was replacing the top dwarf with a gnoblar, if memory serves me right. I don't have the link and I can't recall who did it, so to whomever reads this thread, send a shout-out or a link or something with the model in question!

But, other than that, no, gnobs sadly don't have any characters for themselves. YET... *dun dun dunnn*... ?? :P

it was a homebrew where the thing he was carried on was the irongut banner sideways with four gnobs carrying it. gah wish I could recall where I saw it on here

There is a goblin her miniature released by Avatars of War that is carried on a shield by goblin handlers, as a direct parody to the dwarven lords who do the same.

I must say, I very much doubted that a Gnoblar would go out of his way to 'free' his brethren, much less feel for them. But after reading the rules and having some time to think about it, the idea really attracts me! However, it does seem to me that a large group of Gnobs could not survive in the mountains; what withall the mournfangs, sabretusks, rhinox, cavebears, ice drakes, giants, stonehorns, dwarfs, thundertusks, chaos dwarfs, ogres, skaven, cockatrice's, mamoths and other creatures. I mean, they would have a hard time surviving an attack from any of these.

Still, I really like this idea, and I think that the rules are all good. The points cost is also good, because you have to think that a T3 with 5+Sv and W2 won't make for a hard target.
