Update time! A shame that it is a rainy day today, so picture quality is even worse than usual...

Nevertheless, I'm attending a tournament on this weekend, and maybe you know this sudden urge of motivation to paint something for it! For me, these are 2 Ice Boars (count as Sabretusks, I just like the O&G boars so I use them instead  :>)) and Golgfag whom I use as BSB.

First I present you with a bit of background on the tribe's hierarchy:

Fitting for their role as plunderers and raiders the Stormbreaker tribe does not have a "ordinary" Battle Standard, instead the most successful looter of the last major raid is bestowed with the honour to carry the items he collected around. This serves two purposes:
First, if the tribe decides to trade with other Ogres (or other more or less willing groups) these items often prove their worth, either because they can be traded or because they serve as intimidation.
Second, and more importantly, the trophies' weight usually prevents the bearer to be just as successful during the next raid(s), thus preventing the Bruiser's pride to rise over his head. This indirectly fortifies Horlok's position as Tyrant because most Trophy Bearers are satisfied with their position and rather try to defend it than to rise to replace the Tyrant.
In the long run this unusual costume led to an unusually high amount of ambitious Ogres, each and every one eager to carry the Trophy Rack for the glory of the Stormbreaker tribe...

Now, something more appealing to the eye, pictures of my Golgfag model:

Brag Stormhand,  the (current) Bearer of the Stormbreaker Trophy Rack

I'll take better pictures when the weather gets better, bit o' sunshine would make him look better...:)

Glad you like it Umbadung, I'd love to see pictures of it when its finished! :)

Today, I need advice and feedback from you, guys. I've been busy converting my Heaven Slaughtermaster, Sogroth the Scryer, and he is almost done now. I'm not pleased with him yet, however. But first things first, bit o' background and pictures:

Sogroth the Scryer is ancient for an Ogre, far more than 100 years old, and used to roam through all parts of the world seeking out Astromancers, Witches, self-proclaimed Prophets and other folk reading or pretending to know the future. Those that gave him insight he told a few scraps of the wisdom which he accumulated over the decades, those who did not he killed and took their most valuable scrying tools. The later event occured far more often.
Sogroth acquired items of magnificient power as well as useless tand on his journies: the severed hand of Mad Ulug, former Savage Seer of the Badlands, da Bad Eye from the Bad Eye Goblin Tribe (now calling themselved the Blindsight Goblins for unknown reasons), the head of Eghugnyiggn, a Daemon of Tzeentch, even a branch stolen from one of the Wood Elves' Sacred Groves as well as many more...
After his return to the Stormbreaker tribe he swiftly rose to the position of High Slaughtermaster for his mastery of magic was unmatched amongst the tribe's Butchers.
Still Sogroth is restless, driven by the visions from his ever-hungry god towards a goal he cannot know nor understand. He leads the Stormbreakers into war, wielding unfathomable power over the Heavens such as summoning roaring comets to smash whole armies into oblivion or changing the tide of battle before it even unfolds on the planes of reality...

And his fellow assistant, Nikkit the Astrognob:

However, I'm not 100% happy with Sogroth yet. Nikkit is fine, I kinda like the little 'un already, he just needs some GS'ing on his right hand/arm, and paint of course.

But Sogroth himself, I don't know, he is lacking ... the certain something, if that makes any sense in English.
I thought about giving him a tattoo of the Great Maw depicted as burning comet to show his allegance to the Lore of Heavens. Somehow, I do not think this is enough, though.

I'd love to hear feedback on him and if you have ideas what could be improved that would be awesome!

Can you help a fellow tyrant out?

Matt
Good evening tyrants,
today I have something not related to Ogres for you...a WoC armylist. When it comes to WoC, or Chaos in general, I'm changing into an very vigorous fluff player. As I'm playing Nurgle, and Nurgle only this tends to involve unit sizes which are a multiple of 7, same for point costs and fancy names. Excluding as good as every Non-Nurgle Item and especially not including anything from treacherous Tzeentch is mandatory of course.

So, without further talk...behold the Power of the God of Despair!

The Cavalcade of the Plague God

Rhomkar the Pushearted, Chaos Lord of Nurgle on Chaos Dragon Blightwing with Stream of Corruption, Sword of Might, Favour of Nurgle, Talisman of Preservation, Dragonhelm and Shield  - 700 Pts.

Marius Duskhand, Chaos Sorcerer [Level 2: Lore of Death] with Enchanted Shield and Infernal Puppet - 170 Pts.
Putrificus, Exalted Battlestandard Bearer of Nurgle with Bloodcurdling Roar, Talisman of Endurance and Charmed Shield - 210 Pts.

The Defilers, 20 Chaos Warriors of Nurgle with Handweapons & Shields, Full Command and Blasted Standard - 420 Pts.
Pale Brotherhood, 42 Marauders of Nurgle with Great Weapons and Standardbearer - 248 Pts.
Wailing Wanderers, 5 Marauder Horsemen of Nurgle with Flails and Musician - 111 Pts.
The Hounds of Marius, 2 x 5 Chaos Warhounds - 60 Pts.

The Sevenfold Blessed, 20 Chosen of Nurgle with Halberds, Musician and Standardbearer with Wailing Banner - 490 Pts.
Rotten Poxbringers, 7 Plague Knights of Nurgle with Musician and Standardbearer with Banner of Rage - 375 Pts.

Hematemesis, Hellcannon - 205 Pts.

1 Lord: 700 Pts.   23.3%
2 Heroes: 380 Pts.   12.6%
5 Core Units: 779 Pts.   25.9%
2 Elite Units: 865 Pts.   28.8%
1 Rare Unit: 205 Pts.   6.8%

Total: 2989 Pts.

Edit: On a small Ogre related note...I started to work on the Firebelly and I'm about to start on the Ettin. But as 6 exams are spread over the next 2 weeks, time to actually paint is little...

Oi Tyrants, long time no see!  :glol:

Exams are as good as done, only 1 is left...and I even found some time to paint!

So today I present you...

Bulrog/Gorlub, the Divided Self - Curs'd Ettin

Bulrog is a strange beast, clearly marked by the Dark Gods of Chaos. From afar he could be easily mistaken for an ordinary giant, but the truth is much more disturbing. Not only is he gifted with 2 heads but each of them possesses its own personality. Where Bulrog "himself" is a creature as intelligent and cunning as an Ogre or maybe even a human, Gorlub (the second shard of personality) seems to be incapable of any sort of reason and is constantly wailing or giggling or both at the same time.

Ettins, as many of the older inhabitants of the world, have an enourmous lifespan and it is not rare for them to live several centuries or even millenia. In such a long time men could achieve great feats, but sharing your body with a childish and unreasonable second self definately hinders any progress. Nevertheless Bulrog achieved to learn scraps of Arcane Knowledge from of the Bray-Herds in the Drakwald Forest where his chaotic apperence was an advantage since the primitive Shamans believed him to be blessed by the Dark Gods. They gifted him with a Shard of their Herdstone, a corrupted relic emitting the raw power of Ghur and allowing the Ettin to cast wild magic even if the drooling Gorlub "takes over".

As the centuries passed Bulrog wandered east, through icy Kislev over the mountains into the Great Skull land. Possessed by a primal cunning and a certain malevolence it prayed upon the week, looking for small groups of Chaos Dwarf slavers and their slaves to attack in night. It was during such a ambush that Bulrog first met a small group of the Stormbreakers. Like him, they preferred to strike at night and use the moment of surprise for themselves. At first Bulrog lurked in the shades, patiently waiting to see the outcome of the struggle near him. The small Chaos Dwarf unit was no match for the Ogres and were overwhelmed swiftly.

But suddenly the sky brightened and a deafening roar of pure hatred boomed through the night. One of the Sorcerer-Prophets of Hashut mounted on a blazing bull demanded revenge for the slaying of his precious slaves and prepared to blast the Ogres into oblivion with his dark arts.
Instinctively Bulrog began to run towards the dwarven sorcerer roaring in the guttural tongue of Ghur, crushing slaves and slavers alike under his enourmous feets. Before the Prophet could finish his spell a fist the size of a pony smashed into him, which ripped him from his sattle and sent him flying into the dusty ground. The Great Taurus turned around to face the attacker, its body radiating form the unbound rage within. It breathed a cloud of fire, engulfing the hulking Ettin before ramming its horned head into the two-headed giant. But Bulrog was far from being helpless and hammered the herdstone shard into the flaming monstrosity, splitting its skull and smashing the dead Taurus into the ground.

The Chaos Dwarf sorcerer, protected from the impact by his Blackshard Armour and mighty enchantments opened a portal and swiftly escaped before the Ogres or Bulrog could lay hands on him, swearing revenge for the slaying of his mount.

Impressed by the strength and ability to wield primal magic, Brag Stormhand (back then a Irongut of the Stormbreakers) approached the unexpected ally and invited him to the Stormbreaker's territory to present him to Horlok Drakecrush, the tyrant. Seeing an end for his long journey Bulrog accepted and thus an alliance of great power was forged...and until now no side had reason for regret while the use of Ogre and Ettin strength combined with the raw magic controlled by Bulrog proved an insurmountable feat for many an enemy.

Pictures:

Final work on the faces. :)

I have to say that I really, really enjoyed painting him. No miscasts, no hidden bubbles, just awesomeness. Incredible detail, incredible texture, incredible faces. He even has two spines! Really hope that I can organize a Storm of Magic game soon, want to use him as Ettin with Gibberer and Rune Caller and not as ordinary giant!  :>D
I also included more pictures in more settings, so maybe he looks a bit more like I see him and not ruined by crappy pictures...

C&C welcome as always!

Mork

Edit: Oh, I thought a comparison shot would be helpful! Here he is next to a Irongut:

Only a small bump from me... I'm back from holidays and was for the first time in an official GW store (Dublin). I only was in there for 5 minutes maybe, because the employees were ... a bit annoying, if that does not sound rude. They were nice and all, but I would have prefered to take a look around for myself. Good thing was that the "Which army do you play?" "Dogs of War" card worked wonders.  :P Gave me a few moments to get a closer look of some stunning Harlequins which even won a Golden Daemon! I never saw miniatures painted that well in real life...quite breathtaking!

On a painting related note: I bought a Ogre Battalion and now I'm struggling how to assemble it.    Leadbelchers are a given and building 8 Ironguts would give me a unit of 16 so I could actually play a horde! Downside is that there would be only 4 Bulls left to assemble, and I will convert at least 1 or two of them... and I haven't enough Bulls even now! Always these decisions!  :|

I also worked on my Chaos Dragon, which nears completion. It's the old model of Baudros and has lots of character and details... as soon as I decided for a painting scheme for rider, a Lord of Nurgle, I'll post pictures. Problem is that the Dragon is painted green, so it could be overkill to paint the Chaos Lord green as well! Therefore I'm thinking about a bone coloured painting scheme, or a rusty one. And then there is the base where I will try to paint marble for the first time.

So much to do, so little time! Argh!  :D

Update time! No, I didn't paint anything (imagine Warseer's shifty-smiley here), but I managed to assemble my battalion!  Only took 3 weeks! :glol:

Anyways, I couldn't resist converting again, so I assembled 8 Ironguts, 4 Leadbelchers and 2 Maneaters with it, leaving me with 2 bodies to build Bulls. Or rather, I'll build another Maneater and a Death Butcher. We will see...

You wanna see pictures, don't you? Well, here we go!

First of all, we have the finished Rustgut horde, and I have to say I find it quite impressive. The sheer size is frightening! If I ever play it, I will put my tyrant, Horlok Drakecrush as well as my BSB Brag Stormhand in there, as shown in the picture.

This is "Rusty" Garogg, the Rustgut's Gutlord. Of course he has the biggest weapon in the unit.  ;>)

Next we have the Leadbelchers, I do not have a name for them yet, maybe once I paint them something strikes me.

I converted two of them, this is "Loud" Argat, the units Thunderfist (if that's the English word for the champ). He could also double as Maneater if need arises. Same goes for the Gutlord, btw. The sculpting looks a bit crude, there is some cleaning and finishing still to be done!

And the Bellower, whom's voice is almost as loud as his cannon!

Now onto my favourites. If you followed my Gnoblog a bit, you will have noticed that I quite like building Maneaters. And yep, I build two more.  :glol:

First we have Sor-An of the Shifting Sands, a Maneater who travelled far more southwards than most of his companions, through the Badlands and straight into the vast desert of Nehekhara. While his curved sword looks like he was in Araby once, he actually was not and insteads helped Arabian corsairs plundering a vault in the Land of the Dead. Originally Sor-An was helping a Tomb Prince named Nam-tep the 2nd to reclaim his family sceptre, but the corsairs ambushed the expedition while Sor-An was hunting something to eat and when he returned he found that the Undead turned to dust after Nam-Tep had fallen and so he joined the Arabians (by force), led them to the vault, killed both the guardians and the corsairs, and finally left the Land of the Death with great riches. The bird following him once belonged to the corsairs and preferred to stay with the Ogre after the corsairs "didn't return" from the vault.

Next we have Honorable Dolim, Son of Torgar. As his name implies he travelled with dwarfs for several years, now sharing their loathing of Goblins. (which lead to some rivalry with Warghett, but as old drinking companions they tend to see over those banalities) He accompanied a family of Dwarven Merchants travelling through the Empire and from hold to hold to sell their goods and offering their craftmanship. While not being exactly gifted in smithing or any other Dwarven art, Dolim made this more than up with his ability to press bargains out of trading partners as well as defending the dwarfs for any revenge following those "deals". The miniature shows him standing proud over a felled Greenskin.

This Maneater is a homage to Levis Clarke, who gave me inspiration for most of my Maneaters. Awesome job, good sir!

Every Maneater unit needs a captain, a individual who lead them since their return against innumerable horrors and numbers and still managed to prevail. In case of my Maneaters, this is Grogh Stonefist. Nowadays the Stonebreakers think that he is one of the main candidates for a Bruiser, although Grogh seems to enjoy firing poisoned bullets with his 4 Pistols at leaders and magicians who thought themselves save in units of their soldiers. As the massive kill count of Gragh implies, this is not the case.
(On a personal note, the Limited Bruiser which I use for Grogh is one of my favourite Ogre minis...so much character, so much detail. ove him!)

The last Maneater is "Little" Yorgolt, the Bellower of the unit. He also travelled through the Empire, but ended up in Marienburg, the City of gold as it is called. Quite intelligent for an Ogre, Yorgolt was able to survive the scheming and backstabbing for many years, and returned as old and very rich Maneater to his tribe. While not being one of the physically impressive Ogres, he surmounts all of his fellow companions in his art of dueling and warfare. Many say that while Grogh shouts the orders Yorgolt is the one who mutters them into his ear.

You may wonder why I decided to call him "Little" Yorgolt, and here's the reason why. He is a Marauder miniature, far more than 20 years old. While being lovely (my favourite Ogre, of all), he is also quite small compared to newer figures, as shown in a comparison to Dolim:

The last picture I have for you today is a group shot of my Maneaters. I have now eight of them, giving me a formidable unit.
From the to right we have: Sor-An with Malon Gutsson behind him, Yorgolt with Dolim behind him, Grogh with Brok behind him and Bagurt with Warghett Gobsmasher behind him.

Now they "only" lack paint.  ;>)

C&C welcome as always!

Hey Mate,

I love your maneater Conversions... the gave me the inspiritation for my new Maneaters (coming soon!!!)

Have a great Weekend

Matt
Oi Tyrants,
currently I get alot less stuff done than I'd like to. Time is little, and with an impending tournament in 2 months I should really find time to finish the army! But these days I got that target one step closer by finishing my hunter (well, he won't see many battles, but still) and 5 Ice Boars! I love the new boars, especially the Savage Orc ones, they look so fierce and, well... savage.  ;) They are quite big as well and their aggressive poses make for excellent Sabretusks imo.

I have no story as of now, but it will follow as soon as I find a nice one for him. So far the Hunter only has a name. So I present to you...

Beastkiller Harak the Pig-Poker & his pack of Ice Boars!

Harak was a simple conversion (no GS needed), he was made using a Ogre Bull body, the hunter parts from the SH/TT kit, the spare Harpoon Launcher from the same kit and arrows from the Savage Orcs box all mounted on a 50x50 base with some stones.  The Ice Boars were not converted, but build straight out of the Savage Boar Boyz box.

Harak himself:

The Ice Boars:

And finally the full Hunting Pack:

See you soon, I hope I get more finished in the next days. I'm about to start on the Maneater, dunno which one(s) yet, though!

Oi Tyrants, Update Time! :)

I'll have little time in April for painting, so I was busy the last days to finish my remaining Rustguts!

Well, as you will see the Rustguts lack ... actual rust but it is more likely for me to use 2 medium sized units rather than one horde, so it is ok for them to look different.  :>)

I love the Irongut models, so painting them was lots of fun. Plus, it was the fastest unit I ever painted! (3 days!  :glol:)

But here we go, pictures with slightly too much light. It is quite hard to find the right amount of light to get reasonable photos with a mobilephone, I tried my best.  :>)

This is "Rusty" Garogg, the unit's Gutlord. He was build using Mournfang parts, thus he has the biggest weapon in the unit!

And lastly, a common Irongut,  but I just love this one!  :>)

As I said, time for painting in April will be rather rare, but I hope I can provide some stuff nevertheless. Wish me luck!  :glol:

People can say what the want about their armies and how phat they look, but there is nothing as nasty and cool looking as a brawling Irongut unit closing in for war.

Lovely!
My hood is my castle...
Some excellent stuff in here.
I note we still haven't seen pics of those converted Maneaters (or at least none that I can see)!
Have you painted the Nipponese ME yet?

Thanks guys!
I agree Shadowlord, Ironguts are great and very Ogre-ry! :D

Hey tyrants, hope you can enjoy your weekend!

I did, and used the time I had to finish my Thundertusk!  :glol: After buying a pot of Gryphonne Sepia my painting spirit was enkindled again and I found the motivation to get the second Big 'Un for my army done.

Overall the big buddy involved quite a few "new" colours I haven't used before: Charadon Granite/Calthan Brown (both fantastic) for horns/part of the leather, the new Waywatcher Green glaze for the Ogres' paints and Mourn mountain Snow texture followed by the Drybrush white for the snow.
I have to say I like this texture stuff, was sceptic at first and tested it on some bases, but quickly liked it then. Usually I do not use snow bases, but for the TT I wanted to go "half-frosty" to show its Aura of Frost. Maybe I'll add a few layers more of snow on the base, but first tell me how you think it looks please!  :>)

But now I present you: Wintertooth the Ancient, ridden by the twins Lug and Rug!

The base with the texture snow:

And from above: Winter's coming!  :gshock:

C&C welcome, may I'll get something done in the next few days as well. Alot of half-painted stuff here.  :glol:

Oi Tyrants!

Well, my next tournament is approaching with huge steps and I pledged myself to field a fully painted army!

So, said tournament is next Saturday and the following units need to be done:
4 Leadbelchers
10 Gnoblars
5 Maneaters
Heavens Slaughtermaster

I'll cross out stuff which is done and will hopefully provide pictures these days as well! As you can see some stuff is already done and while the Gnoblars were really speedpainted they look ok imo. :)

Wish me luck!

Ejo! I've been quite busy (student's life  :glol:)  the last days, but now I may proudly present you... my Maneaters! In the near future, everyone of them will receive a little background story, but for now they (and you) have to get along with mediocre pictures and a name.  ;>)

First we have Malon "The Blade" Gutsson, a Samurai Nipponese Maneater. He has a backbanner as well, but I will glue it on after both are painted!

Now we have Warghett Gobsmasher, who fought along a Orc & Goblin tribe for some time and now returns with a retinue of Snotlings and even a small squig!

Next there is Bork the Adamant, scarred, but heavily armoured returning from the Northern Wastes.

And last, but not least: Bagurt the Collector, who fought across the length and width of the Old World and beyond, now returning with the standards he "collected" on his journeys...(As with Malon, the banner will be painted before glueing it onto the pole!)

Woa...lots of pics... So what am I doing paint wise you may ask. I finished Bragg (he will be used as Urug Life-Ender, a Butcher using the Lore of Death) and 4 Ironguts, now called Rustguts because I fell into a rust painting frenzy...but I cannot get good pictures of them, so you will see them after the next time when I see my brother. (reflex camera > mobilephone) Currently I'm painting 4 Leadbelchers, and 10 Gnoblars are half done as well.

So far,
Mork
Wow !! That's one of the best conversions ive ever seen :D !! Really nice job man , got inspired to do some conversions too if  i have the time (: !
Thanks Ogre Farral, glad to be of service. :)

The Chaos Maneater and the Standardbearer will get some paint these days as well, so stay tuned!
