Savage Beards Tribe

Hey all,

This log will be about my Warhammer Fantasy Ogre army. This is my first ever tabletop army, though I have painted some figures before. I really want to get into gaming with these (finally:rolleyes:).

My goal for this army is to make them look awesome, yet not too flashy (blue silk trousers on an human-eating ogre? No ty.) and they also need to be sturdy enough to play with them without having the risk of them falling appart ( so no crazy basing). The army itself has to also be able to win games. OK is kind of a middle class army atm, i'd like to make the list as good as it can be.

I chose OK because the models are so big. I always try to perfect my miniatures (sadly, I cant just speedpaint an army and not feel terrible anout it) so an army with a large amount of models would be near impossible for me to finish. Besides that I also like their looks alot. Savage meat eating, beer drinking giants, HELL YEAH.

There is one thing I didnt like about them though. In my opinion, a savage ogre should be bald/near bald. So thats why I sculpt hair and beards on all my models. I also give them full sleeve tribal tattoos.


The first model I finished is my completely converted tyrant. I didn't like the GW model that much, so I kinda made it my own with some greenstuff. This is my first big conversion ever, so I hope you like it!








Next up will be a unit of two leadbelchers. I already finished one of them, starting the second one tomorrow. I know leadbelchers aren't great, but I wanted them in my 500pts list so I can experience the shooting phase aswell. Me and my brother are both working on our warhammer fantasy armies, he is doing Tomb Kings. We are doing a game every 250 pts we paint and build up our armies slowly like that, so we can really learn them. I know 500pts is an akward point level to start in WHF, but we are too excited to wait untill 750:p

New book came out, so I am back at my ogre's!

So far I only finished two leadbelchers, one bull and my tyrant. Kinda got dragged into 40k for a while, but with the new army book being released I can finnally focus on my true love again. First up is the finish the bull unit I am currently working on, wich needs two more bulls. After that I need to finish converting my butcher, who is even fatter and hairier then the other Ogre's. Also got some Gnoblars lying about, think I might put together the 10 - trappers unit everyone is talking about.  I will post updates and better pictures here tonight!

Very nice. The Bruiser looks evil with all that armour and I really like Haggrid as a leadbelcher

They have a good sense of menace to them, especially the tyrant.
I think your photos are not doing them justice. Looking towards more.

The greenstuffing on the tyrant isn't perfect (in particular, the chainmail is pretty rough), but it looks very cool, and very killy. So you got the important stuff right.
I like the direction you are going with the army- they look proper hard.

Also, those bases need some love. You're going the right direction with the bits of armor and weapons on the ground, but that plain brown dirt will make for a very boring looking army when it is all done. Even just a couple patches of dead grass, or a couple small rocks of a slightly different color.

Atm the bases are pretty dull indeed. I have some moss on them, besides the dirt, but it doesn't really show up here. I was actually planning on getting some additional grass and small rocks on them once I have finished the first 500pts of the army.

The greenstuffing on the chainmail is crappy, i know. But it was the first big conversion I ever did, so I am still quite pleased. It only shows up from up close, or in a picture like this. Noone will notice the bigger holes when he is on the table. I will post some better pictures when i get around it, somewhere this week. These current pictures miss alot of detail I am actually pretty proud of.

Your Tyrant is amazing! Very well done.  I also like the hair that you've done for them. It seriously looks like matted hair tied down roughly.

Y'know, the bases probably could use a bit more stuff, but honestly, you don't want to detract from the details you've given to your tribe. I hate it when a great model gets drowned out with tons of basing and other stuff :S
