I speculate it would come down to unit placement. If you deploy your 3 bulls across from 4 ironguts, 6 bulls w/tyrant, and some leadbelchers, well, you're screwed. But meeting challenges with appropriate units, picking fights, and manuvering better than your opponent would truely be what makes the battle.

I think ( having the same army composition ) it is all about getting the charge and especially the impact hits. having more attacks then your opponent on the same strength is crucial.
- Lexy of the Ogrelix tribe
Well ogres will always try to get the charge if they can so don't let that happen. It's pretty easy to do. Just use you leadbelchers to shoot the hell out of them and then counter attack with the appropriate unit. Simple...
- Zuggut the FAT
cannibal totem
- namfoodle
siegebreaker could be handy too as we tend to have low initiative
- Khemriman
From my experience, since the two armies are rather similar in speed and both rely on killing things in combat to win, dice rolls are more important than usual.
Hence, items that grant you re-rolls are very worthwhile.

For starters to fight your self is kinda nuts but i see where it's goin' To fight other ogres (excuse my openess) go in and take them head on in Close combat a wipe da Bulls out first them toy with whats left but remember that in all probibilaty they will do the same thing...

Use the skullmantle to panic Bulls/ Gnoblars due to low/ average LD. Try some long range attacks to soften up units before fighting them. CANNIBAL TOTEM!!! Multi-wound weapons AKA tenderiser or thundermace. Get the charge with longstrider BN.
"Thinling weapons ain't much good to us. Too fiddly. And too big for the Gnoblars. So we let them little thieves give em' all back using one of their...wotsit wagons. Pointy end first." Cool, a pet gnoblar! He can be named Squisqueek.

when playing against ogres, remember to keep your troops close to your general to benefit from his leadership.
the key spell to get across is toothcracker - it makes a bigger difference in the mirror-match than trollguts
use gnoblars to halt his ironguts while yours deal with other stuff.

Can you elaborate on this? because mathematically, you're incorrect. An extra die roll of 4+ to prevent a wound is much better then a bumb from 4+ to 5+ to wound, or 3+ instead of 2+in the case of IG's.

well... Trisky indead. Try to have an army list that's not common- maybe take a weird amount of somthing to put your opponent off.

I'll not doubt that trollguts, mathematically, may stop more wounds than toothcracker, but it was the other effectrs of the spells, MR and stubbornness that I was more concerned with. With no/little fixed CR, being stubborn can really help you out.

The game winner is getting the charge, the tenderiser will be a very important tool in this game, have a lone tyrant running around, with tenderiser and longstrider BN and he will eat entire units which will help alot. A skullmantle butcher will also dominate making their units flee.

Mind you, MR (1) will really help when it comes to one-dice Gut Magic barrages. If your opponent is smart he'll be using Skullmantle+Braingobbler a lot, so Trollguts can help there.

Not being an ogre player myself I suppose that I can't really say much, but if I were in an Ogres V Ogres battle I'd take a Scraplauncher and plenty of Trappers, so I don't have to be in close combat, and I'd also hope I got to go first, deploy my units well, get the charges, and pray to god that my dice are more lucky than my opponents.

Tenderiser on the tyrant. put him into an irongut group. watch him pulverise your enemy's Bulls. after that, as previouly said, roll better than your opponent does.
Cheers, Brork

Cannibal Totem. This normally silly banner can be swapped for rune maw, since we don't have to worry about big explody spells. I would probably take out the scrappies, leadbelcher ect. Just go core + BSB, Tyrant, SM, Butcher. Standard deathstar. Except you will be re-rolling your dice and it will be too late before the opponent finds out about it.

Wouldn't Yeti's be a good idea? Not having a save isn't much of a problem when your facing an army that takes away a 5+ anyway. Getting shot to bits is also not much of a problem because, well it's Ogres.

Bait and flee worked well for me yesterday
we know what the units can do so if you're not going to survive the charge don't take it.

Chuck Norris was the fourth wise man and gave Jesus his favorite gift, a beard. The other wise men were so hacked off, they got Chuck Norris removed from the bible. Mysteriously, they all later died of Roundhouse kick related injuries.
