2500 pt starting list

Hey guys.  I honestly don't get to play alot of games these days, and since 8th edition I have only played 2 games really.  So this list is my first ogre list that I am putting together and I am looking at a list to build towards.  I will be working on painting so I probably wont be getting to play a game for a while.   That being said I want the list to be fairly balanced.  I also wanted to include some of the new models that just look impressive as well as the battalion I am starting with.    I also was debating to take a tyrant or a slaughtermaster but in the end I went with a Tyrant because I wanted to have my tribe led by an ogre who kicks butt.   

Tyrant with Heavy armor, ironfist, Giantbreaker, greedy fist, and sword of swiftslaying.

Butcher, lvl 2, dispell scroll

Firebelly, lvl1, Greatweapon, dispell scroll.

Ogres, x11, Full Command squad, look out gnoblar, ironfists.

Ironguts x8, Full command squad, look out gnoblar, Banner of Swiftness.

Leadbelchers, x4, Bellower

Mournfang Cavalry, x4, Standard Bearer with Dragon Hide Banner, Bellower, Heavy armor and Ironfists

3 x 1 strong sabertusk units

StoneHorn

Thundertusk

This list comes up to 2500 points exactly. 

any advice at all?

Is the large block of ogres to much in one basket?  or should I split that unit into two somehow?   I could trim one off the ironguts as well as split the ogres to get three units for core, and so i could put one character into each unit for a better spread of heroes.

Does the tyrants choice of items seem ok?   I don't want to be cookie cutter but I also like the idea of having a tyrant who is armored yet hits like a mack truck?

As for the stonehorn/thundertusks, I was taking it for the diversity in monsters but I have also toyed around with the idea of taking two stone horns too, or replacing the thundertusk with the new Ironblaster.  Which set up do you guys feel is best?    The thundertusk does have some shooting that my overall army has little of and it an shoot at a few different targets if need be.

One of the biggest issues is the lack of a level 4 SM. I don't know your local metagame, but in general, given the current rules not having a lvl 4 means most opponents will have +2 to cast and +2 to dispel. As such you can assume your opponent will cast each turn 1-3 more spells than you.

Also, 9-12 Ogres in a unit is the average size. Lower than that and you go into "detachment" land where they are only good to serve as flankers - not a bad thing per se, but you need something hardy enough to take a charge if need be.

Oh, and you can only have a single Dispel Scroll.

Thanks, I wasn't sure about the dispell scroll.  I remember in past editions you could have mulitples of that but I have only played 2 games this edition and not really all that common with playing.  As for the meta game, I really can't say.  I barely get to play anygames so mostly I am after the aestics of the army.   I thought about the slaughtermaster but fluff wise the tyrant is the one who leads a tribe so I opted for a powerhouse character.   I might look into the options on the forums here for the standard SM build and see what I can do to rework the army and just swap the butcher to a bruiser for a BSB.  If I am not getting the benefit of the tyrants leadership then I will need the reroll for sure of the BSB.

New list is now 2496 points.
The slaughter master is going to join the Ogres, the Fire Belly and BSB is going to join the Ironguts. 

I may still convert up the extra tyrant anyways and make the extra irongut just to try out the lists and see which fairs better for me, but it will be a while still as I am just starting to build and collect my army.

One "combo" that will be used very often when taking a SM as general will be sticking him in a unit of IG with the Standard of Discipline. That, or give it to the BSB and put him in the same unit as the SM, giving you the same LD bubble a Tyrant would give.

Personally I don't like the idea of spending so many points in a couple of monsters, I even question my own usage of a single Stonehorn, but YMMV.

Yeah I actually thought about that combo but was tight on points.  Thing is I want my army to be competitive enough to have fun when I do manage to play.  I might look at tournaments after I have an army large enough to play painted.   My thing is right now I am looking at building a list to build up towards first, so I can budget my spending and shopping for the army.    As I am painting when I can find time  as i work part time  in the evenings, college classes, stay at home with my youngest, and a husband and parent of 4 kids 2 of which have soccer games, so its hard to get time to paint yet along time to play when the nearest store to my house is a 50 minute drive give or take.    That being said, I have to go with what also motivates me to paint and right now, the large beasts are just screaming my name.   After I get this list painted I will look at rounding out my army with extra units that I can use to swap around.    The budget spending is also why I am not taking any maneaters because that unit is expensive to buy right now.     As it stands I am debating on investing in the butcher model or trying to convert one from an extra bull body.  I might convert but my sculpting skills are weak at best.   It could also be a fun experiment though and maybe easier to add extra rolls to his body and an apron.   It is also alot cheaper to use an extra bull I will have already than it is to spend the money on the finecast butcher.

Go for the converted SM, mine will have a shamanistic vibe to it.

How about a Stonehorn/Thundertusk and a Ironblaster? You would still only need to paint two large and point-heavy models while having more versatility gaming-wise.

I also considered Maneaters but can't seem to find the points. :/
