2x Bruisers > 1 Tyrant

original thread ↗

Same price, more wounds, more attacks, and cheaper options, no brainer?

Thoughts on this?

Competes with Hero pts.

Does not provide a base 9 LD.

Can not take 100pts of magic gear for more demanding builds (glittering scales & Fencers & Gutmaw)

Outside of those 3 things though I agree 2 bruisers are better than a tyrant.
I don't have my new books yet, but how smart will it be running 2 SM's and 2-3 bruisers (1 BSB) in a 2000 point army?

Been thinking about this for a while now.  Will probably run my SM's with LOTGM and beasts.
(Kit the SM's out with +# to cast items and a powerstone then power dice shouldn't be too much of a problem)

P.S.

Or LOTGM and death... :?
There is only news.  There is no good or bad.
I like the idea but not the execution.

Naked butchers are (PLEASE DON'T POST POINTS TOTALS) pts a piece, as such they could have no level 4 or magic items.

I'm not a fan of naked characters most of the time, bruisers being a possible exception to this.

But with a SM in the Lord choice, a 625-pt window in a 25% 2500pt game would be plenty right?

Say ~200 pts for the BSB and a Firebelly + scroll + GW, that's ~350 pts and enough for 2 fairly well geared Bruisers.

Absolutely.

I wasn't insinuating it was a bad plan just something that you may want to consider before making a general statement such as x is better than y.

Myself, I play at 2500 pts.  I tried a dual tyrant build and was very happy with the builds (each had over 50 pts of magic gear).  I could not do that same build with Bruisers.

My main opponent plays TKs and always takings 2 catapults with upgrade, Having a leadership 10 (standard of disc+tyrant) helps negate this effect.  A bruiser can not do that.

Every army has it's own specific quirks to consider that may make a Tyrant a worthwhile choice.

As far as raw killing Capacity is conserned I think the best build we have available to us would be:
SM lvl4 w/ Beast
Butcher lvl? w/ GM
As many bruisers as you can squeeze in.

1 good savage beast will be game changing and easy to pull off.

I agree, the average leadership of Ogre's is one of the army's biggest drawbacks, and so I like the Tyrant (I know I'm in the minority though). I do also believe that a Slaughtermaster costs more than 2 butchers, so the same argument could be used to take two of those, but our lord level choices simply offer more to the army, and are therefore appropriately more expensive.

Vote for the best army list vs. the Dwarves.

True, but the fact that magic offense/defense is so important these days that I can't see myself NOT taking a Lv.4 SM into battle..

Right now, my lineup looks like a Tyrant + goodies, naked Lv.4 SM, Bruiser BSB, and a Firebelly. Thinking about dropping the Tyrant for 2x Bruisers seem to be a pretty good comparison considering that Tyrant is 327 points..

Magic in this edition is like the old leadbelcher cannons, it can be absolutely devastatingly brutal single handedly changing a loosing game into a winning game.  Or it can be the biggest dissappointment (investing 600 pts into magic only to have 1 caster blow up and roll weak on the winds for the majority of the game or get ineffective spells).  But USUALLY it will be average (have an impact but not break the game).  LvL4 is prefered and no one will argue that point but only having lvl2s is workable.

I like to have first hand experience in my debates so I have forced myself out of auto including a lvl4.  If you haven't tried it before I think you should.  You will find a lot of people over value the level 4 caster.
I'm thinking Lvl3 may be enough, especially with the support casters I want in the list.

The answer to everything is sabretusks.  There is no problem that can't be solved at least in part with kitties.

Even with purple sun,

First the guy has to get it out of his random spells
then he has to cast it
This means he needs
enough power dice
for you to not have an unused scroll
for you to not dispel with your dice
to roll high enough
to not misfire.
For an my ogres not to be in b2b with something of his.

I really only see spells like PS, PoS, Dwellers, and the like go off maybe once a game.  We all have that story where that one spell wrecked our entire game and it can do that but if you play it safe & smart your in a really good position for this.

And with the hellheart our survivability just went up even more.

Food for thought.
Just a note about PS.  It doesn't matter if the target is in combat or even the caster for that matter.  He could PS you right into your face.

And uh, once a game is enough to ruin it every game.  I like that hellheart though.
