The Frostmaw Clan

original thread ↗

Hey guys, I'm new to Ogre Stronghold and thought I would make my first post about my army fluff. No dialogue or anything too deep, I tried to write it like a children's story, simple with a nice little story! (Please don't feel patronised :D )

Ahem...

Legend tells of a band of Ogres from long ago, Ogres that sought power and wealth over all else, these brutes were led by the especially hateful and greedy Tyrant known only as Flamegut Spitefury. Flamegut heard on the wind that the last known location of an item of great power, a relic of the sky-titans, and a mystery that he would not divulge with his fellow kin, lay far to the north-west. His underlings would follow him regardless, thanks to Flamegut's assurances of power beyond the Ogre's mere physical strength.

To cut a long story short, Flamegut and his followers travelled far from their home in the East, through the Mountains of Mourn, through dirt, fire and frost until they reached their destination. It was inside a cave, in the mountains of Norsca that the Ogres uncovered their prize, a shimmering, metallic blue object. It looked like an abstract sort of lantern, and having lost some of their kin to the biting cold the Ogres sensed the wonderful warmth radiated by the object and quickly huddled around it.

Suddenly every Ogre bellowed in pain, covering their eyes and ears as the object exploded into a blinding flash of light, noise and heat. The Ogres felt the flesh being seared and stripped from their bones, their blood boiling beneath their skin. Then, just as suddenly as it had started, stillness. The Ogres no longer felt any pain, and were no longer cold, in fact they felt pleasantly comfortable. They opened their eyes and spoke, astonished at first, they found that their skin was undamaged but had turned an icy blue. After having informed each other of this quite shocking revelation, they talked, and found that they had things to say. Things of worth. A great change in them had come to bear.

It is told that on that day, Flamegut and his Ogres did indeed find power, but it was not the power they originally sought. Instead, they were blessed with higher intelligence and resistance to the freezing cold of the high mountain peaks. It was there in that cave that Flamegut swore never again to succumb to the savage brutality of his kin, changing his name to Frostmaw, and making a new home with his brethren in the mountain peaks of Norsca, where his clan would prosper long after his death.

The End.

Hope you enjoyed it :)
Short, but then again a lengthy story might alienize some.

I like the idea of clever ogres, but I'm wondering if you have thought that maybe this destroys their entire culture and lifestile? Maybe the reason you started collecting ogres in the first place? That's just a thought. And rather than resisting the cold it might be better that they don't and they just wear lots of clothing. It would give an interesting and distinct look to your army.

Don't let my comments get to you; It's all good here. :>D
I thought what was more interesting was to have something completely different to the Ogre's original backstory, an off-shoot breed of Ogres that vary in culture. It doesn't really destroy their culture and lifestyle, all the other Ogres retain that, but now these 'frost ogres' have their own way of life.
I see your reasoning mate. :>) I guess I just like the brutish hordes.
