I'm very pleased to announce that independent hobby retailer Wayland Games have agreed to support the Ogre Stronghold by helping fund ongoing website costs in return for promotion here
You'll probably notice the Wayland Games banner on the forum, which currently shows a rather tasty special offer for Ogre Kingdoms fans - great timing eh?
The details of the offer:
"OGRE KINGDOMS SPECIAL! The Big Guys Are Here! To Celebrate the long-awaited re-release of the Ogre Kingdoms range, Wayland Games - no stranger to outsized folk themselves - are offering an amazing bank holiday deal! Until close of business on Wednesday 31st August, all Ogre Kingdoms pre-order items will be 25% off their recommended retail price! So come and grab yourself a Gnoblar or two, and start thinking BIG..."
You can find Wayland's reduced list of prices for all the upcoming Ogre Kingdoms plastic box sets, the new army book (available in five different languages) and the new Ogre Kingdoms magic cards over here.
PS: I'm aware the top of the forum may look a bit quirky in older versions of Internet Explorer, but I'll have that fixed tonight hopefully!

25% is impressive, too bad their shipping isn't. But if you are in the UK then Wayland is probably the best you can get.

Right, WHEN you live in UK. Otherwise the 25 rather feels like 15 when you have to add 11pounds for shipping. And even it is a nice saving, 15 doesn't feel that awesome like 25 does.

Wayland and the Warstore equalized for me in price when I tossed in all the stuff I want. 2 boxes of mournfangs, ironblaster, stonehorn, the book and cards. After that I give the edge to warstore due to cheaper shipping.

For those outside the UK and Europe Wayland games will ship. I'm not sure if is something they are not trying to advertise to avoid drawing heat but so far my order was placed successfully. They have a page with a response concerning GW's policy that you can read at http://www.waylandgames.co.uk/response-to-gw-embargo/info_23.html. Hope we can all get in on this sweet deal. One of each? I think it said "dispatched when released" on the pre-orders. I ordered my book with GW so that might be here today.
Edit - yup:
The Ogre Kingdoms orders are being dispatched over the weekend and early next week.
Sometimes GW new releases turn up 3 days prior and sometimes the day before official release. And usually the busier/larger the quantity the slower we receive it if that makes sense.
They also mentioned they have "hundreds and hundreds" of Ogre pre-orders.
Davespaceman03 Sep 2011

I'm happy to wait with the discount involved As for using couriers instead of Royal Mail here in the UK thats ok as well-I could tell some horror stories about couriers given the job I do now and the job I did previously (NO NOT a courier, well may be of sorts). Yeah even if a 3 week wait was involved I'd be ok considering the money saved and any offer like this will have sellers buying up lots and lots-Yeah it's cool like little Fonzi Ogres

Apparently GW haven't sent Maelstrom any of the new Ogre stuff yet:
Interesting.....I just phoned Maelstrom who told me that GW had not sent them any OK stock and were therefore not able to ship orders. Any day now, was the reply. Seems like GW are freezing out their re-sellers on new release?
Hmm, just checked my order status on Wayland and it's apparently awaiting stock, but on the site it says that the 'Fangs and 'Horn (I ordered 2 of the former and 1 of the latter) are actually in stock? D'you reckon this is just a hiccup on their part?

some of the items in the Ogres release were short in their deliveries but we're hopeful that that will be resolved tomorrow. For specific item queries, please contact our helpdesk at http://support.waylandgames.co.uk/

My stuff is "awaiting stock" too. That kind of pisses me off considering I've been waiting for over a week now when I could've gone down to my local hobby store and gotten everything immediately for not that much less of a discount.
I'm not unreasonable, I know any number of errors or miscalculations could've occured beyond Wayland's control... But still. They had better get in stock soon.
Edit: Just read that they use awaiting stock for awaiting packing as well. That doesn't really change anything though.

I think GW are trying to encourage more people to buy directly from them, but I don't think taking so long getting new stock out to the likes of Maelstrom and Wayland is the right way to go about it. They should try running some special offers, grow a bit of good will with consumers.
Lakedrinker09 Sep 2011
Is that really what's going on? Screw that. I'm in Wisconsin, there are no GW stores north of Milwaukee, and I have no reason to buy from them online, not with those prices.

If you want your advance order stuff fast you have to order from GW direct, that's your reason right there. If you're prepared to wait a bit you can save some money. I think the options are acceptable.

And yet the stuff I ordered direct from them (Magic cards to make sure I got them) only turned up like yesterday. Considering past experience I expected them to arrive on the day of release. Now they don't it is very disappointing.
I got a lovely Red note from the Post Office last night, so I will be picking up my stuff today.

Funny this looks like the item, my wayland order is stucked on. So maybe some production problems on the cards are responsible for the delay of my order. Which is ok , with the discount, I can wait a bit.

Lordy! What a maniac-I'd hate to be facing that lot from the other side of the board....
I'm still waiting on mine, but personnaly do think the discount makes it worthwhile for me at least. Yep I'd have liked them alot sooner, but there's nothing I can do so have to be patient if I wants me stuff.
I do think it's GW holding back on supplying, and that this is not unique to Wayland. I guess GW wanted to see the stuff fly out of their stores first and make more money rather than just getting the trade price from other retailers, which as it's their baby is only right (for GW anyway). In the meantime independent suppliers awaiting stock have to bite the bullet and get the backlash from peoples who have placed pre-orders such as many of us.
The independents are caught by the short and curlies in many ways. They can't supply to pre-order peoples as their suppliers haven't supplied them yet as they're supplying their own stores first. Common sense from a business view for GW in many ways.
Just crap having to wait eons for the stuff you've pre-ordered and expected to arrive within a day or two. May be supply just couldn't keep up with demand and poor Wayland ended up with more orders than anticipated. A discount can be a double edged sword in many ways.
If you check on the Maelstrom site alot of the OK stuff is not showing as being in stock, so either they've had them and sold out, or not yet been supplied by GW.
I like Wayland and I like Maelstrom and have always had perfect service from both so I'm not worried about waiting a week or two longer. If they say it's been dispatched and I haven't got it a week or so after that, then other channels must be pursued.
Still itching to get my hands on my Ironblaster/Scraplauncher and mourngangs mind you. I'd ordered one of each then got tempted and ordered another
canada steve11 Sep 2011
I have no problems with Wayland anytime. I ordered the Battalion Box, The Book and the magic cards, they arrived the day after the release date. Its always worth checking with them when you order as the online system isny always up to date and they do run out of stock quickly at those prices. If you call them they will always sort out any problems quickly as they are good guys.

I always find their orders ship faster if you use a credit card, not sure why. Paypal can be sh**t not to mention their security record. At least with a card you have recourse on a bummed up order.

I suspect my order is being held up because I put the magic cards ( ) in with my modles, but I am starting to get anxious about the time its taking - if they cancel I might not be able to get any cards (probably just me being impatient, it was a great discount, but I'm not used to ordering from other suppliers)

Well, i'm sorry, but its kind of a crappy site if you ask me.
they let you see how much it cost in CDN, they even quote you on shipping. They let you order, just to cancel it a few hours later saying they do not ship anymore outside europe...
Maybe its time for them to pay someone to fix their site so they are not as misleading or false advertising.

Hragged13 Sep 2011
A recent GW policy prevents all independents in the UK who are buying from GW from selling GW products outside of Europe - they have to do this if they want to continue to be able to buy from GW. Wayland has a page about it on their current site: http://www.waylandgames.co.uk/response-to-gw-embargo/info_23.html
The issue with still being able to see and buy GW stuff from their site when you're outside of Europe is a problem and may be a side-effect of the fact that they still sell many non-GW miniatures and hobby materials to the rest of the world. They plan to launch a new website though so maybe that will fix this issue.
They're also currently looking into a way to be able to legally get hold of GW stock that can be sold to the rest of the world and are organising a new warehouse for that purpose.
