My Gallic wartribe

original thread ↗

Hi there folks, looking to start my first gnoblog by saying hi to all on this site, and yes i have been reading up on as many articles as my sleep deprived eyes can take in :>D

My name is Karl and i am neither terrifying nor a duck sadly enough and ive been collecting ogres for many a year and am so excited with all the new minis and the prospect of having a new ogre army.

so chaps down to business, id like any ideas or opinions on what is the beginnings of my Gallic wartribe. My ogres are going to be modelled after the ancient Tribes of Gaul, Britannia, Germania and Dacia. so my plan was to take normal ogre bulls and adding lots of woad warpaint designs in mixes of blue (this will be present throughout the army, thinking of having my gnoblars warpaint look more like a childs finger painting project just for laughs) also im going to be adding spiked hair, mohawks, beards and moustaches, all hair crazily spiked and painted white like the Brittons who used chalk to spike up their hair, it made them look big and scary (thats the plan)

My ironguts shall be modelled using the new beastmen minotaur kit just adding an ogre head and bulking out the neck and added some armour plates along the right or left arm using plasticard.  the tyrant shall be much along the same lines, but with a suitably epic scenic base and MOAR armours! (he is the king after all)

my butchers shall be done in the theme of druids, with animal pelts, gnarled wooden staffs, and sickles with all kinds of shamanic trinkets

warpaint is a massive part of this army and as it will be mixes of blues, i was thinking of doing the trousers of my normal ogres some shade of natural green (catachan me thinks) the hair (white) the warpaint (icy blue) the trousers (natural dark green) all lend to a chilly kind of feel, so the bases shall match as well as a pale skin tone.

anymore ideas would be very welcome, im quite able in painting and green stuff, so ill try anything.

cheers guys
I was told there would be cake...
i like the idea, put up some pics when you get the chance!
Something that I use for my ogres which might look good with your theme is black eyes with white pupils, gives them a really scary look, combine it with warpaint and it'll be very striking.
ogres are the boulder rolling down at you.  you can side step it, run away from it or blow it up before it gets to you... but you can never ignore it.
Great idea Spartacus thanks! I'm a little while from painting yet but I shall definately try it out, there shall be pics coming Tomoro after some conversions, I was also possibly thinking of making oval shields for my bulls as use by republic roman armies
I was told there would be cake...
hey guys quick question, how can i make my images smaller? im trying to upload but they are at least 2gb each. im using my iphone if that helps =\
I was told there would be cake...
Can you email them to your computer from your iphone? And what OS do you run on your computer?

If by RAW, you mean "Reg06's Audacious Whims", then you'd be right.

You can make the images smaller by emailing them (you get to choose which size you want them in)

/M
thanks guys all sorted now and i can start getting some pics up. this is my first unit of bull, with awesome new hairdos. i love green stuff
I was told there would be cake...
this is my ogre tyrant, King Madsmasher, who has been bald for all his life, is jealous of every other ogres prodigious head of hair, and doesnt take too kindly when said hair is mentioned around him (last time i heard, he fed one of his iron guts a couldron of molten lead for saying the word "bold" which the king mistook for the word "bald" As such, the king has resolved to smashing shards of warpstone into his head for if he cannot have hair then he shall have a crown of such magnificence (and permanence) that all ogres shall be in awe (not to mention the mental degeneration)

I was told there would be cake...
and this is gibblet, he has been bad and as such has been punished. in truth i had lots of spare bits to tinker with so i thought why not, it will make a good unit filler at the very least, plus its quite funny  :>D
I was told there would be cake...
Love the fluff behind King Madsmasher (even if he is uncomfortably skinny- a side effect of the warpstone perhaps?). And all of the little conversions, though it is difficult to tell exactly what the hair on the bulls looks like.

the fluff will be fleshed out, im thinking the higher in rank you become the more warpstone you have smashed into you, which causes altered mental state, so from iron gut up, you become pretty mental. i will upload more pics along with my druid butcher at somepoint so i can give you guys a better look at the hair. but more fluff ideas would be great =)

Love the pictures!

I know for a fact that greenstuffing ogre sized mohawks is hard (did an Ogre slayer, many times harder to make that size of mohawk compared to "human  size") so look forward to future conversions from ya
