Thanks to Hitsugaya Toushiro on WarSeer for this latest pic (click to enlarge):

Mmmm... looking better every time I see them.

2 ranks though? is that GW just making their picture look nice? Or will that be an actually good unit size?

I lean towards looking nice, but we don't know yet, do we!!!

Metaphorgotten: A metaphor is a train, a high speed train that takes you from concept A to B, easily derails and serves overpriced sandwiches.
Still not a fan of that angle, but those ogres look fantastic.

If by RAW, you mean "Reg06's Audacious Whims", then you'd be right.

Ooh, just noticed the weapons the back rank is carrying, lookes like some wicked great weapons

And is it just my blind eyes, or do the stonehorns in the back have different heads?

I'm just stoked that the bulls in the picture still look like bulls.  Makes me feel better about painting.

I bet the same head with a different paint job or angle.

Different horns I think.
22/101 Ogre Achievements... Gotta try harder.

Pet Gnoblars:
Nice. They will make an excellent second rank to my Rhinox Riders.
Happiness is being "immune to ice magic"!
I'm starting to like the cat calvary the more I see new pictures

Keep Calm and Praise the Sun!
fantastic! i love the way they look with 6 models. i might be running them that way if they get some sort of bonus like the new TK chariots did. big blocks of monsters is my kinda ogres! cant wait.
well there the first new units for me to get
Ψ I am God's holy beast Ψ
I noticed an Ogre with a pistol, any rumours about the MF's getting handguns/BoH? Cause that'd be sick...

I think it's just the champion that can have an Ogre pistol.
awwwww, sad day. And fairly odd. Idk of how many other cav models in other armies get unit champs with ranged weapons...

Well, I stopped lurking and registered just to answer this.  To the best of my knowledge 2 ranks will be a good use as they will benefit from the rule Monsterous Support, Monsterous infantry get all their supporting attacks. The mounts will not strike from the second rank but the extra riders will get all the supporting attacks, since they are in essence Monsters on top of Monsters.

and from the FAQ

Page 83 – Monstrous Cavalry
Add “MONSTROUS SUPPORT
Furthermore, the rider of a monstrous cavalry model can make
as many supporting attacks as are on its profile, up to a
maximum of three.” to the end of the paragraph.
Welcome to the Stronghold Johnny_Thunder.

I believe the question wasn't so much "what purpose does an extra rank of mournfang serve?", but more "will two ranks of mournfangs even be legal?". GW has, in the past, put illegal units in photos.

Thanks for the welcome, and yes I have noticed that in the past, but with how the game is played now and an emphasis on bigger units, I am sure multiple ranks will be fine.  That is total speculation though on my part.
i'm praying for the 3+ unit size rumor that's going around, then you can have a walking deathstar and a riding deathstar.

also, please tell me Johnny Thunder is an All Star Squadron/Justice Society of America reference.....?

Is there something wrong with me? :?
There is only news.  There is no good or bad.
No, I was hooked when I saw the side profile.

These are just luvely!
My hood is my castle...
these models are going to do the ogres justice and give them there own identity. hopefully all the fluff will enable us to have a mounted monster army too. i also see that the bulls have not changed does anyone know what current figs will still be in use?

heres a link to my more random models and paint projects, my ogre army can be found by following the other gnoblog link.
The unit size is apparently 2+, not 3+. Read that somewhere on Warseer.
I'd rather have 2 units of 3. Think of all those lovely impact hits your losing with 3 in that second row..... :(  And the idea of surrounding units with all those beasties is cool!!!!!
ONLY IN A COLLAR CAN A OGRESS TRULY BE FREE....
I really like them, the Ogre on top looks great, the cats look great, I've just gotta get over the saddle.
When I can see how it works, which I'll be able to do when I have the model, I'll get over it......hopefully  :D

yeah. same... i love the model so far, but the ogre seems to be sitting on a tall throne more than a saddle... weird... but i'm sure its just angle, and once i get it in my hand i'll forget about it....
My Blog
Looking forward to the new models more and more. Ogre's seem to be getting better at making armour by the look of the mournfangs. And the two stonehorns in the background are awesome, I think they have the same heads but just a different paint job on each and one is attatched at a slight angle.

Please can you stick to black text for posts, unless you want to pick out certain elements of your posts for a special reason as otherwise it just makes for hard reading and a scruffy forum.
Thanks, Fantasyfreak

Yeh, that's what I get from the pics.
The throne style reminds me straight off of the olluphant riders in Return of the king, it's a mount style that I think works better with bigger, slow, lumbering mounts.

But we'll see...

No sure how.. all the Oliphaunts had Howdahs.. not saddles.
Reminds me of a camel saddle..

Or one of the Old Mongolian Nomad saddles..

Probably what they were going for, maybe they were just not executed 100%? (As far as we know from angels and all.)

Fruit Gusher...cuz he's squishy inside.
anyone notice we get slick new banners rather the ones that gws just throw together, i like it. its nice to see ogres get a little more detailed and it would  be nice if the mournefang was also welcomed by a rhinox rider ridden by a lord of course.
No sure how.. all the Oliphaunts had Howdahs.. not saddles.

Not the actual howda, the throne typed thing that the chap with a bold head and tats was sitting on (the one who looks slightly like Dhalsim from Street Fighter 2).

What the Ogres are on reminds me of that in the way that it wobbles a bit and doesn't look entirely stable.
It'd be fine on a big beast that was slow, but the Ogre riders look too big for their mounts to be on one of those.
My fault for not being more specific  ;)

Like I say, I'm hoping my view changes when I see them for real.

The way it wobbles..?
Here.. Do you mean the Haradrim standing up infront of the howdahs driving the Oliphants...?
feature=related
They are Wobbly.. But thats because they are standing..
The point of the Nomad saddle is to pick the rider up off the withers so They dont bounce around while the animal moves.

They still don't do it for me I'm afraid. I'll still be running my FW rhinox rider unit. At the cat cavalry aren't actually 'rhinox riders' the FW guys should still be OK.

Or if you wait for the Tamurkan book, you will be able to field Rhinox Riders.

Rumours says these will be GW endorsed and legal.
My hood is my castle...
Cool, I hadn't heard that.  :D

I think the new Rhinox and Mournfangs are the same model with exception of head. Take a closer look everyone and tell me I'm right!
Record since new book:

Wins: 12
Losses: 6
Draws: 4

Ogre achievements: 41/101
