How can you strip plastic?

original thread ↗

I have tried that Thunder and I have not been very successful at ALL. The super glue GW puts out is like cement!

Try Dettol or something that strips plastic and is easy to get hold of in your neck of the woods.

Most people do say that anthing that strips paint will weaken the glue (from a quick goog search  ;) )

Actually, come to think of it, I think most of the joints that were glued with superglue came apart when I soaked in dettol, the plastic glued didn't.
Not sure if they came off their bases though  :?

You can't be old and wise, and have youthful memory... even if you are FF

If worst comes to worst you could just take clippers to the base and chunk it off to your just left with a thin bit of plastic attached to the base of the feet and reglue it... A method I use if i dont mind abit of damage on the feet of the model is get the clippers with the flat edge flush to the base squueze them so it grips the joint of foot to base and try to twist it off, depends on the condition of the model and why you need it off the base to be honest,
TLK!
OK I will try a few things and see what happens. Thanks guys!

Off course there is something to keep in mind with break fluid, not all of em are good to remove plastics. Most of the regular ones are ok, but some of the more serious brake fluids can, and will, damage plastic miniatures quite badly (racing brake fluid for example is a horrid concoction which can eat you mini's away as well as the paint. So if you're going to use brake fluid be sure to check if it's usable in rubber/plastic breaklines, should be fine then, usually it's the really specific and often expensive ones, which can be troublesome. Just thought I'd mention that...

Brake Fluid!

Thats what his point was Flog, he said "certain kinds" of brake fluid will damage your models, not all of them. You must have gotten one of those that won't (luckily enough!).

If you get the "regular" kind at the gas station it shouldn't be a problem, at least not in my country :)

So unless someone here lives in Monaco or Abu Dabi, where noone drives less then a Ferrari, it should be safe to go to your local garage and ask for "regular" Break Fluid. ;)
